Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Richmond North Ashland by IHG

Stayed there one night on the way back from vacation. The front desk staff was nice, went downhill from there.
Grab bar in shower falling off, literally
Hinges rusty and pins coming out
Mold at bottom of door
Ripped carpet
Took stuff out of mini fridge from previous occupants
NO BREAKFAST just cereal, was supposed to be set up at 7, we were down there at 7:25
AC is crap, had to put it at 64 to get it cool at all and still couldn’t sleep
Soap mounted too high to reach
No exhaust fan in bathroom
Toilet moves when you sit on it
Toilet ridiculously loud
WiFi doesn’t connect
Large dead bug right off dining area staff kept walking around
Spilled food on floor just outside the one working elevator, I put a wet floor sign there

I recently stayed at this hotel and would not recommend it to anyone. From the moment I walked in, it was obvious that cleanliness is not a priority here. The lobby floors were sticky, the furniture looked stained, and there was a noticeable musty smell in the air.

My room was even worse. The carpet had visible stains, dust was built up on surfaces, and the bathroom was clearly not cleaned properly. There was grime and hairs in the shower. I didn’t feel comfortable walking barefoot on the floor, let alone sleeping in the bed.

For the price they charge, the condition of this hotel is unacceptable. There are plenty of other options in the area—do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

I whole heartedly urge you to take your money somewhere else or put it to better use. I never write reviews but feel obligated and compelled to do so here. This place was expensive in comparison to similar nearby hotels and yet the service was absolutely and completely GARBAGE. The AC was not working in one of our rooms, a suite for that matter. The very unfriendly with zero customer service skills front desk rep told us to call the manager. Called the manager, left a voicemail and never heard back. They couldn't move us to another room because there weren't anymore suites available of that size since we were traveling with kids. I spent most of the night fanning (by hand) my 2 year old so he could get some sleep in the unbearable heat.

One overhead light fixture was broken. The fridge was dirty. This place is FILTHY. Management and staff simply DO NOT CARE. They exploit people by charging a lot due the proximity to King's Dominion while spending very little to nothing to maintain the place. I say it again, TAKE YOUR MONEY SOMEWHERE ELSE. There are a few close by places that are nice and clean for the same price range. I wish we had known, but we live and learn. THIS HOTEL, NEVER AGAIN. It does not even qualify to be called a "hotel" and calling it a motel would be an insult to all motels everywhere.

This place should be fined or better yet, shutdown for stealing from people. TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE PLACE. RUN, RUN, RUN AND FAST. Your money will be better spent elsewhere.

I am a IHG Platinum rewards, long time former Spire elite/Diamond elite & IHG Ambassador member. I have stayed countless nights at IHG hotels over the years. This hotel is one of, if not the nastiest IHG hotels I have ever encountered. Walking into the lobby, I should have known better to even check in by the state of the lobby. Food and Crums all over the lobby furniture, dust and dirt all over the floors. Terrible. I checked in and went to the room to inspect to find more of the same, and even worse. Checked bedding for bugs to find several on the mattress. Huge, disgusting stains on the carpet, blood splatter on the lamps. I returned to the front desk and refused room, and asked for a refund of my rewards night (I would not accept being moved, as this hotel was not up to IHG standards). The front desk attendant assured me, the reservation would be cancelled and the reward night returned. Hotel went ahead and processed the reservation as if I had stayed. I called management on 3/16, and they lied and denied that I was charged the reward night. (Even though it showed used as a past stay) I have spent 2 months with IHG trying to get it returned, so far to no avail. Absolutely do not stay here! Run!

I have stayed in several Holiday Inn Express hotels in the past with no issues. This hotel should not even be associated with the HIE brand, in my opinion. The entire hotel is in need of a major cleaning. The lobby furniture was stained and dingy. Hallways and elevators dirty. Our room, 155, was disgusting. There were stains on the curtains, the walls were filthy and bathroom door was rotting. The shower only had a cloth curtain which resulted in the entire bathroom being covered in water after use. Walls, floor, toilet, door, everything. Also, the pool was closed for maintenance all weekend which was a disappoinment. I understand this is not a luxury hotel but paying $400 for a weekend here was a total ripoff.

I stayed at Holiday Inn Express & Suites Richmond North Ashland while traveling for the Jefferson Cup, and the condition of the room raised serious concerns.

The room showed multiple signs of deferred maintenance and moisture damage. The bathroom door frame was visibly rotting and splitting, and there was black mold-like growth and residue around the bathroom threshold. Trim and wall panels were separating from the wall, and there were long cracks along the wall beneath the window.

Behind the desk there was also an unsecured coax cable plate that had come loose, leaving an open hole in the wall next to the electrical outlet. Overall the room appeared poorly maintained and not consistent with the standards normally expected from a Holiday Inn Express property.

What made the situation worse was management’s response. After bringing these issues to their attention and documenting the condition of the room, management refused to offer an alternative room and did not offer any remedy or refund.

This property is owned and operated by Shamin Hotels, and I hope ownership and the IHG Hotels & Resorts brand review the condition of guest rooms and how guest concerns are handled at this location.

Families traveling for major youth tournaments expect safe and properly maintained accommodations, and unfortunately that was not our experience here.

I am hesitant to write poor review, but I feel that this property is sorely in need of an overall update and the management needs to address this. HIE is our favorite option for a night on the road when making a long trip. The location just off I-95 was super convenient with easy places to eat and gas up steps away. However, the hotel itself was dingy, our room was dusty, the wallpaper was peeling, tiles cracked, furniture and walls scuffed, tub faucet coming out of the wall, and tub not draining properly. The staff we encountered were hard working and friendly. They deserve better as do loyal HIE customers. Management needs to address updating this property and it will once again be a great overnight on the road.

Clean and comfy. Good breakfast in the morning! We will stop every year on our way to the beach!

It was just an overnight stay on a road trip. Everything was great wish they had breakfast earlier as we had to leave befor 7:30am

My room was 356 right beside my bed was a soaked carpet and my AC would shut off completely. So during the night it was stuffy. I live this hotel but this time my experience was not as normal. My experience is normal great .

Clean and good breakfast and convenient travels

The stay was great and the absolute friendliest staff I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with in many hotels! The only down fall is the pool is not heated which they absolutely told us at check in! The room was what we needed and spacious for a week stay! Would absolutely recommend!

The staff is absolutely AMAZING!!! The room was clean and the breakfast was actually pretty good.

The only reaso why the service got four stars versus three stars it's because when I mention the problems, they gave me a discount on the room.But receptacles in the room in the bathroom didn't work.The room smelled musty.The whirlpool was cold.The pancake machine wasn't working

It was clean but the bathroom was not great. The faucet stuck away from the wall and the could not use tub. It would not turn off from shower.

The room had dirty walls the people across from our room were smoking so our room stunk like cigarettes and I want to say maybe a hint of ammonia. The air conditioning was so loud we slept with the tv on to drowned out the sound of it. On the wall next to the bathroom mirror was what looked like blood stains. We were exhausted from a very long drive it was very late at night and only needed a few hours of sleep so we stuck it out. Went down for breakfast and the floor in the breakfast area had food spilled on the floor that I had seen the night before and it was still there in the am. I don’t recommend this hotel which is crazy because I have always stayed at Holiday Inn because they were always so well kept but not this one.
