Deceivingly cute.
Do not be fooled by the photos. It’s a motel. It’s incredibly noisy. Zero insulation so you hear absolutely everything. You have to keep the windows open for air because there is no A/C in Carmel so you hear ALL the guest chatting and walking by all the time because everyone has to keep their windows open for air and some resorting to propping their doors open. This is a basic cheap motel with lipstick on it. All cosmetic with no improvements to the actual motel apart from cute furnishings and misleading instagram photos . Noisy fridge placed 2 feet from bed and a fan that you can’t use because it rattles. The hotel is very cute looking, tastefully decorated, has comfortable beds with decent bedding but it’s still a not suited for a good night rest and certainly not fit to be called a boutique hotel. If you’re charging $400- $700 a night we’re gonna expect more!
Breakfast was wonderful! Great friendly staff and service. Fresh delicious food! We are dairy allergic, so we appreciated the non dairy options. Everything was clean and we liked the decor. The patio was clean and inviting. We loved the location to town.
We would never stay there again for a few reasons. For the price point we were disappointed in the noise!! The loud party atmosphere in the court yard, (right outside our windows) that we had to complain about all three nights was ridiculous. The room above us was very noisy. (It really sounded like they moved every piece of furniture) until 10:30. And we hated the "music" (speakers outside our windows) that was blaring from 8-8! It was not restful. We also felt it very invasive to have cookies brought into our room (with singing) even though we expressed our allergy to them.

Thin walls
I recently stayed at Le Petit Pali at 8th Ave in Carmel, and unfortunately the experience did not meet the standard I expected from this property.
The stay began poorly. Although check-in is listed as 3:00 p.m., our room was not ready until approximately 4:15–4:20 p.m. After finally getting into the room, I requested an additional rug and towel because the bathroom floor had become wet after showering. Instead of simply providing the items requested, the maid repeatedly came in and out of the room, creating unnecessary disruption and slamming the door in a way that felt aggressive and unprofessional. To make matters worse, she did not even leave the requested towel and mat. So, I had to walk to the front desk and ask for the items, so that I would have a clean towel.
Now let’s talk about the room. The room looks great. However, it has significant noise issues. The walls are paper thin. You can literally hear the upstairs and adjacent neighbors walking around. I have never stayed in a luxury hotel where you can literally hear people walking. Not acceptable. In order to sleep, I had to use the white noise soundtrack on Spotify.
Now let’s talk about the breakfast. Let me be clear, I never expect much from a free breakfast. The only thing I really need is coffee, so that I can get my day started. Well, good luck. For some reason, the hotel has decided that instead of having drip coffee readily accessible, through a carafe, or someone who can pour it for you. I had to wait for 15 minutes, until I finally found a café staff person, who eventually went to the back and poured me some drip coffee. Not ok, for an upscale hotel.
Overall, the stay was disappointing across several basic hospitality points: delayed room readiness, poor handling of a simple guest request, disruptive service, noise issues, and disorganized breakfast service. I understand that hotels can have occasional operational challenges, but the combination of these issues materially affected the quality of the stay.
You can find much better hotels in Carmel, at way better prices.
Great location. Stylish yet homely quaint hotel
DO NOT STAY HERE.
This was one of the worst hotel and customer service experiences I’ve ever had. As someone who owns and works in a hospitality-focused business, I have a clear understanding of what good service should look like—and this property falls far short.
From the moment we arrived, the experience was frustrating. There is no on-site parking, which in itself isn’t unusual for Carmel, but there was zero guidance or support from the staff. After circling for over 20 minutes, my husband dropped me off to check in while he continued searching. When I explained the situation to the front desk, I was met with a cold, dismissive response: “Well, it is spring break.” No empathy, no suggestions, and no attempt to help.
We ultimately spent nearly 40 minutes trying to find parking and ended up six blocks away. During that time, I received a text asking how our room was and if everything met our standards—before we had even been able to access it. I responded to explain we were still trying to find parking. That message was ignored, and instead I was told we needed to return to the front desk to settle an overlooked pet fee. Again, no acknowledgment of the inconvenience we were dealing with.
After hauling our luggage six blocks to the hotel, I went to the front desk as requested—only to be told it wasn’t necessary and the fee would be added at checkout. At that point, it felt like we were jumping through hoops before even stepping into our room.
Unfortunately, the room itself didn’t improve the experience. The walls are paper-thin, making it nearly impossible to relax. The room was extremely small, with barely enough space for luggage. To top it off, bottled water in the room is priced at $13—something I’ve never encountered at a hotel of this type.
The final issue came after checkout, when we discovered we had been double charged for the pet fee—over $430. I had to call the hotel to correct their mistake and request a refund.
Overall, this property feels like a dressed-up motel with poor customer service and disorganized operations. I would not stay here again, nor would I recommend it to anyone visiting Carmel
The staff was exceptional/ every single one we encountered The bed was comfortable
This is not a hotel for those with trouble walking, use walkers or wheelchairs There are hills, a lot and they can make it extremely difficult to walk. And the lighting in the room was not good
Close to town, easy walk to all the restaurants, shops and beach. Cute esthetic, but you can tell it’s an older hotel that was remodeled. Walls are very thin, and not a lot of ventilation in rooms. There is a sister property down the street where they share happy hour times with. Honestly, this place definitely over sells their amenities. Happy hour was very minimal with one night being soggy croutons and only wine for purchase. They provided 2 complimentary glass bottles and then only had others for purchase for $13 and no water filter to use on property. Really a 3 star stay at best.

This is my second time staying here. Love the location and all the little amenities.
The walls are pretty thin, and it was a little noisy with people walking outside and in the room above me.
Absolutely lovely stay at Petit Pali 8th Ave. The room was charming and comfortable with great ammenities. All of the staff were kind and friendly. The complimentary breakfast was delicious! We will definitely be back.
