Hotel Riu Monica - Adults Only

Perfect location- just a 10 minute walk to the town. The atmosphere in Nerja is wonderful- so many lovely trinket shops and fabulous clothing.

The hotel was very clean and the service was very good. When we arrived (late at night) our room had not had the air conditioning on for a while and it was stiflingly hot! Also, the fridge wasn’t working. Once we called out maintenance, these things were fixed quickly.

The food was typical of buffet hotels. We were full board, but no water was even included at mealtimes- it ended up being a very expensive drinks bill at the end of the two weeks, even though neither of us had more than one alcoholic drink per day (€300).
The desserts were very bland- lots of fake cream and pretty much the same every night.
The sun bed situation was tiring- my partner needed to get in the queue at 7.30am every morning to secure one for us!

The evening entertainment was ok, at best. There was an Elvis night, but he only sang songs from the 1950s.

Fantastic hotel. The staff are all very friendly and highly efficient. Never had to wait to order a drink. The rooms are very spacious and clean. We had lovely views over the sea which was the best we have ever had. The food is really good with so much choice. No queue ever for us at dinner or breakfast and we always went at peak times. The location is perfect. Only a 10 minutes to the old town with great shops/tapas. Sunbed situation is very easy. Always a few free on the terraces/grass with umbrellas throughout the day. The queue is definitely only for a small number of ideally situated beds. I don’t think the hotel could provide anymore than they do. A fabulous choice for a relaxing holiday. Like other reviews, cannot praise the hotel and the staff enough.

Second time coming to the Monica & were not disappointed. Check in was swift /efficient by well trained people.Found reception staff very friendly, helpfull & knowledgeable during our stay.
Rooms are cleaned daily, drinks are reasonably priced and all staff are very pleasant/dutiful.
Some reviewers are negative about the buffet style dining & sunbed situation.
regarding the dining we knew when booking that dining is buffet style and of a good standard. If one want la carte this is available at the restaurant by the pool. So plenty of options.
The situation regarding the sunbed availability is exaggerated. About a dozen people were queuing before 8a.m. These people are rushing to get the "premium" beds at the front. They are welcome to them as I'm sure it stresses these people out. There are plenty of other beds.

This hotel was wonderful. Reception staff were very friendly and welcoming on arrival and made sure everyone had a glass of Cara/ orange juice. We arrived at around 12:30pm Spanish time) and were pleasantly surprised to find our room was ready for us. We were on floor 6 (618) with a fantastic balcony view of the sea. Great spacious room. Loads of storage. Small fridge and free use of safe.
Sunbeds: plentiful and always found a couple. The people queuing want particular ones.
Food: great selection of food. We particularly enjoyed the salad bar area. Good choice at breakfast too. Waiters/waitresses are very efficient and order your drinks and remove finished plates swiftly.
Drinks: very reasonably priced unlike some hotels.
Entertainment: this wasn’t great but with the buzzing town with its bars and restaurants only a ten minute walk away there was no need for evening entertainment. There is no animation team here. Did miss the daytime activities a bit like Aqua aerobics and a fun day quiz but there was always popular music playing during the day from the pool bar.
Housemaids: they were fantastic! Our room was always cleaned/tidied spotlessly. They obviously work very hard to high standards.
Location: the hotel is in a great location to all local amenities. The transfer took 55 mins with only the Monica and another hotel to drop off at. Same on pick up journey too. Beach is only a few steps away at the rear of the hotel where the sunbathing is done. I would go for a swim in the sea every day and pleased I took my beach/sea shoes as the beach is quite shingly and sea had some bigger pebbles.
A fantastic holiday with very friendly staff, all areas spotlessly clean and close to a great old town to explore.
We shall definitely return!
Top Tip: get a taxi to Frigliana. Picturesque village with quaint cobbled streets and little tavernas.

Dell'hotel mi è piaciuto veramente tutto, ogni angolo viene curato alla perfezione. Un merito particolare a tutto lo staff dell'hotel che è molto cortese, sorridente e super veloce in tutti i servizi. Nonostante non conoscessimo la lingua, il personale è stato sempre disponibile e accogliente.

Good location. Food was good both breakfast and dinner. Staff were very friendly. Cost of drinks was very reasonable.
