Brilliant hotel
Pros:

First class hotel. The staff are brilliant, nothing is too much trouble for them.
Very comfortable large room with sea view and we got the afternoon sun.
Food very variable and piping hot. The a la carte restaurant is worth a visit. Drinks very reasonablely priced.
Evening entertainment is worth watching.
The pool and garden areas are well looked after. Right on the beach and perfect location in Nerja.
Would highly recommend this hotel

We had a very relaxing stay
Pros:

It was spacious, and a very good location

Cons:

The air-conditioning was terrible, the evening entertainment could’ve been better . We only stayed for five days, but there was only two nights where the entertainment was exceptional. The beds were not comfortable., Pillows could have been better

Pros:

This is a very nice hotel in a great location. Nice pool with sea view, though quite chilly in March. Good size room with comfy bed, good storage, balcony with side sea view. Everywhere very clean.
Reception and cleaning staff very friendly and helpful.
Fresh fruit and salad bar and cheese in restaurant are good.
Poolside bar food was good and drinks served to loungers.
The main bar is comforatble with good service and ok prices. The entertainment was varied, and generally not too bad.

Cons:

The food isn't great. Very similar every night and not very imaginative or Spanish. I didnt come to Spain to eat pizza and pasta! Wheres the delicious tapas? Fresh salad bar and fruit bar is nice though.
Pudding cakes are the same as we had at a different hotel chain, all look lovely, but mainly taste the same.
Tried all 3 options for coffee in morning, and all terrible. Filter served at breakfast is tasteless, "espresso" from breakfast machine hasn't seen a coffee bean, and the pool bar espresso equally bad.

Shower in room (we had 2 rooms and same in both) is a good size but there is no control over temp. Goes from warm to scolding hot then cold - really not good.

The Spanish restaurant Ole is impossible to book as very limited number of tables and not open every night.

Depends when you go and age
Pros:

The hotel is lovely, I do love a Riu hotel, and this one is nice, on the beach and very clean. I wouldn’t come in the winter here again as it’s been sunny but extremely windy, certainly not sunbathing weather. It’s more a break from our cold winters in UK, if you want warm sunny sunbathing weather go further afield. My disappointment is more so Nerja, wasn’t what I expected. I thought the promenade in front of the hotel took you to the town but it doesn’t go far and then you have to come off it and walk along the road to town cutting through alleyways. There are a few bars over the road from the hotel, Jamaica cafe bar is our favourite. The hotel is really more geared towards retired pensioners in their 70s & 80s during winter months and there’s not much happening, entrainment at 9pm for and hour or so then it’s all closed down and quiet by 11pm. I would imagine the summer months are very much different. Nice hotel in a nice location just not for under 65s in the winter

Brilliant stay and staff
Pros:

I only got back yesterday and already miss the place. I haven’t stayed here for about 3 1/2 years and can say this hotel has got even better.

The staff were lovely throughout my visit. Check in was a breeze and the glass of cava on arrival definitely helped.

I got a lovely room near the restaurant which had a limited sea view and a bit of a pool view. The balcony was a sun trap. The room was spacious and clean. It’s not often you had enough coat hangers in your wardrobe doe your stay but there were lots. I had an accessible room so it was more like a wet room and it was spacious. I would say in the shower area it may need a chair or seat as I found it a bit hard.

There was a safe to use free of charge and it was easy to use. Tea and coffee facilities were ample. The fridge was a godsend.

The restaurant was absolutely great for buffet food. Due to my dietary requirements; gluten free, lactose free, no onions, no garlic etc I was told to see the chef and he was absolutely brilliant. The first night he linked me snd we skipped around the buffet area - he was advising what I could eat and not eat. Certain nights he had soups in the kitchen without foods I could not eat so brought them out when he saw me. During my stay I’ve eaten a stew with white rice, gluten free pasta and sauce, a wide range of fresh fish, different soups, avocado and salmon, chips, chicken, beef - they even did gluten free gravy. In the mornings I went up to a chef and he put a gluten free baguette in the oven. I must say they catered for gluten free and lactose free brill - just don’t be afraid to ask. I was told more gluten free people arrived half way through the stay so more food was available.

There were enough sun beds and glad to say no sun bed wars. The view from the pool is lovely looking across the beach and sea.

This hotel is in the ideal location - a few mins walk to bars and restaurants, about 15 min walk into the town centre.

I’m already working out when I can go back.

Lovely place to stay for a relaxing break
Pros:

I won’t go over previous comments as I am in agreement with them all except perhaps, Elvis isn’t my favourite although I’m in a minority as you couldn’t get a seat that night. Great place to stay, staff all really lovely, special shout out to Ani who tidied our room. We went up to Frigliana by taxi and were very disappointed as the little land train was fully booked by a variety of tour bus companies and we would have needed to wait two hours for a trip ourselves, I read there was a Tuktuk service but we couldn’t find any evidence of it, if anyone finds out about that I’d be interested.
One thing which made me laugh was sunbeds aren’t the only thing that bring out people’s competitive nature, we happened to be having an apperativ in the lobby area one night and there were a number of couples eagerly awaiting the restaurant opening, I realised afterwards this was in order to get a prime spot in there on the right hand side windows overlooking the sea, I hadn’t even noticed the tables myself but they were certainly in demand that night.
So yet another pleasant stay, I didn’t even need all those sweaters the weather was lovely.

Beautiful adult hotel in lovely Nerja.
Pros:

This was our first stay at the Rui monica and to the area of Nerja but it won't be our last. The hotel is adult only with an older clientele of mixed nationalities. It is a beautiful hotel right opposite the beach and a short walk to the lovely old town and the balcony of Europe. It is a 30 min walk to the Burriana beach area which is worth the walk as the beach is much better. We also got the tourist train that stops near the hotel and is €10 return to the Nerja caves-the caves are €19 each but are well worth visiting. Another trip worth doing is a visit to the beautiful town of Frigillana ,we got a taxi from the hotel€15 and got the bus back €1.60 each. The rooms in the hotel are spacious and spotlessly clean with lots of storage and a large bathroom. We requested a higher floor as we had seen on reviews that lower rooms can have people walking past and so lack privacy and some didn't seem to get the sun as very low down.I wouldn't bother paying for a sea view as ours was a partial sea view and beautiful. Our room was 433 and was close to the lift which was handy.(the only small thing I would recommend is that milk is put in the rooms as we had to buy some from supermarket over the road and kept it in the fridge in the room)The food is lovely with lots of choice with a lovely sea view out side terrace-the drinks in the hotel are extremely reasonable with a lovely bottle of red for €10(we found the price of food and drink all around the resort very reasonable) The staff in the hotel were always pleasant, polite and helpful. The pool area had plenty of sunbeds-but still had the usual hoggers of the best positions. We didn't try the pool bar but it looked lovely. The entertainment in the hotel was OK-the Elvis tribute was good and ther was always a seat in the comfy lounge. If you want a roudy hotel with stag and hen groups than this hotel is definitely not for you but if you want a beautiful peaceful hotel close to all Nerja area has to offer then I would definitely recommend the Rui Monica.

Very good
Pros:

Great check in with room available despite early arrival. 3rd floor room excellent and very quiet. Half board was good quality and restaurant facilities were pleasant. Drinks well priced. Only issue was WiFi. Regularly dropping out and issues reconnecting. A lot of folk were having issues and reception accusing people of changing passwords was incorrect and unhelpful. Come on Riu sort it out as it was the only thing that stopped a 5 star rating.

Another Excellent Stay
Pros:

Great stay from start to finish. Greeted with a glass of Prosecco, fabulous room, great service from all the staff. Hotel very clean and well looked after. It was my husband’s birthday and they left a bottle of bubble in the room for us, lovely gesture. We have stayed here on a few occasions and each time it has been excellent. Thank you!!
