Sonesta Simply Suites Detroit Novi

not a very good place to stay

It was a great hotel when it was the Town Place Suites. Sonesta has turned this great property into a dump. From the dirty front door glass, stained lobby carpet, grime-stained elevator carpet, moldy bathroom, half put on couch cover and the food products left in the cabinets. Completely disappointed. I checked in & checked out within 10 minutes.

This is my second and LAST stay at this Sonesta Suites. We stayed at the Troy location first and had a great experience. So we chose to stay at the Novi location in January 2025 with a satisfactory experience. It's definitely an older location but was clean. This stay 10/4‐10/6 ... I'm disgusted with the room 109. There's visible mold in the bathtub, the bathroom sink backs up while MISSING the stopper. The smoke detector has been ripped from the ceiling. And the carpet is dirty and WET. I believe the air conditioner is leaking as the carpet has been consistently moist. Oh and the smell! I don't know if someone cooked in our room or down the hall, but the room reeks of curry.
The dishwasher didn't work properly either! Not one dish clean, stains baked on now.
I will never recommend this place to any one.

Great room no complaints

I will say the beds were comfortable and the sheets were soft and clean! However the rest of it was Filthy! I actually scrubbed all the surfaces before my family arrived. My adult children and significant others were coming for a family weekend and Lions game. The smell was awful! I ran to Walmart and purchased cleaning supplies and room fresheners. I had two (two bedroom) suites. There was only one tiny trash can per suite. The bathroom shower was out of conditioner. One bathroom looked like someone was shooting up. Blood splatters on the wall.
The staff was very nice! I’m sure they need more help. My family had a great time as the space of the rooms were great! The hotel was booked so asking for a new room was not possible. I prepaid on Expedia so I didn’t ask at the front desk for a discounted rate. We made the best of it. Mostly we were happy to have a place that had the space we were looking for.

Bed Bugs, broken lights and outlets, kitchen and walls not clean, fold out couch stained, bed mattress very stained

Room was dirty and dingy. Too many people smoking around the property. Dog waste not cleaned up. Unsafe due to door being propped open.

I saw a cockroach in the room, which was very unpleasant. One of the bedside lamps didn’t have a bulb, so it was useless. On top of that, the phone in the room didn’t work because it wasn’t even connected — there was no cord.

Checked in, got to room, had a terrible odor. Bedding smelled awful couldn't rest my head for more than a few minutes. Mosquitos flying around. Awful experience then was refused a refund by the manager. Left the hotel after an hour. Couldn't bare the smell. No refund was given.

The for the price it’s ok very old, stained and stall smell , no bugs, good location WALLS ARE PAPER THIN! but didn’t feel unsafe was only there for a concert

Vessi (the friendly eastern european woman) At the front desk was amazing! Super friendly, funny, and extremely helpful. She is the main reason the review was so positive.

Upon walking into the building I was in, there was an immediate smell that was noticed. A mixture of hard water and canine/feline urine overwhelmed the nostrils. However, upon entering my room, I was delighted to find it clean and tidy with a stove (although the oven was FILTHY), microwave, and good sized fridge.

Apart from the woman who abandoned her 4 year old two rooms down from me (who cried and cried and cried until I came out from my room and consoled him, understandably of course), the property was mostly quiet and relaxing.

For the price I paid, I was fairly pleased overall.

It’s a room to sleep. That’s it.
There was a dirty towel on the floor at the front door of my room and an insect inside the fridge.
Interesting things about the kitchen: there’s a package to make coffee on the coffee maker, but there’s no coffee maker. There are pans and plates but no utensils. The toaster was all greasy.
The bathroom was fine and the bed was comfy.

The building entrance area needed cleaning.

By far the WORST hotel i’ve ever stayed at in michigan. This place had roaches, enough said. I would t recommend this place to a homeless person. Staff, management HORRIBLE. It’s right by 12 oaks mall which makes it even worse, such a nice area for a bad experience. Please be advised and stay away from this place. They did not even want to refund me when I discovered it was roaches, they wanted to move me next door, disgusting.

Poor service

This was the most disgusting place, I ever walked in to.

I was very disappointed with my stay. The rooms were outdated, and the kitchen was practically unusable with very poor-quality pots and pans. Although the air conditioning worked, it leaked water all over the floor. The hallways had dirty carpets, which added to the overall unclean feeling.

While the price was low, the experience matched it — I would not stay here again and cannot recommend this hotel.
