Front desk was amazing. Jamal is the bomb. Rooms very clean
I want to start off this review by saying my only expectations from a hotel stay are feeling safe, a clean room, and a good night's rest. This hotel only met the safety expectation. The hotel room door was very difficult to open from the inside and outside but that made me feel safer...LOL! The room looked clean until I went to use the bathroom. The majority of the towels and washcloths had long hairs on them. The bathtub had long hair in it. The grab bar was rusty and I didn't feel comfortable holding on to it if I bathed. I did not take a shower because the bathtub was not clean and the grab bar was rusty. Due to dizziness, I did not feel safe showering with a rusty grab bar that may not be stable if I needed to hold on to it in a slippery bathtub. The baseboard in the bathroom was falling off. The TV would not turn on. When I finally was ready to turn in for bed and turned off the lights, the TV had this weird blue glow that would not go away. I was going to try to unplug it from the wall but the long credenza along the wall was too heavy for me to move. I finally had the bright idea to just turn the TV backwards toward the wall but unfortunately the light then reflected off the wall and still lit up the room. I really need a dark room to sleep and since most hotels now have blackout curtains/ blinds, I no longer bring my sleep eye mask, but I promise I will make sure to include it again in my suitcase. Needless to say it was a long sleepless night for me. I know you are asking why didn't I call the hotel reception. When I 1st arrived I was receiving these text messages asking about my stay, so I responded with my complaints via text, and I was conversing via text with someone I thought was front desk reception that apologized for my room issues but could not change my room because the hotel was sold out for the night. A screenshot of the text conversation is included. However, upon talking to the general manager (GM) the next evening, I was told these are auto generated responses. The auto generator did not notify them of my issues so they were not aware. They told me there is no one on staff named Danyelle. One of the members of housekeeping overheard my conversation with the GM and said to me, "Those long hairs appear all the time on our linen when we take it out of the dryer. But, I'll come and take care of your room tomorrow at 12 noon." I told her that I will be checking out early tomorrow because I had business appointments beginning at 8:30 a.m. I was just shocked. The GM did change me to a different room but did not offer any Hilton Honors points for the inconvenience or credits to my hotel stay. The GM did tell me to just get some wine, drinks and any of the snacks that I wanted from their personal market store. I do not feel this hotel stands with the Hilton promise and standard. They did not appear apologetic about anything that occurred. One more thing, when I went to my room to gather my items to move to the new room, housekeeping had not cleaned my room so I guess that is why the housekeeping member kept saying she would get me right at 12 noon tomorrow. I will say the room I was changed to was great, clean, safe and I slept like a baby. I normally stay at the Hampton Inn Capitol - University but due to the high cost while State Legislature was in session, I had to stay at this one, Hampton Inn 1-10 Thomasville Road. I will seriously consider going to the Drury Inn before I stay at this particular Hampton again.
Stayed here for 2 nights so that I could move my daughter into college at FAMU. I couldn't wait to leave! If you've read enough of my reviews, you'll notice that my biggest pet peeve is a smelly hotel. If I walk into the lobby/hotel and the first thing that hits me is a musty smell, I am finished! Unfortunately, these hotels catch you by charging you for the entire stay or an extra night even if you check out early. So to not lose any money, I stayed for 2 nights instead of the original 3 that I booked for. It was alright, but I was happy to leave and will likely not book here again if I have other options. It was old, smelly, and not as clean as I would have liked it to be - nothing that was very obvious: permanent stains on the carpet, shower curtain, window curtains - nothing major but enough to be a turn off for me. For these types of trips, I try to keep the cost to under $200/night so I'll keep my eye out for 2 other hotels I've identified so far in the area that meet my bare minimum standards and stay there if they're available. If I can avoid this one, I'll do so. They gotta do something about that smell.
Nice enough Hampton... nothing exceptional... clean... quiet (its well off the highway). Breakfast unexceptional (very Hampton). Staff somewhat indifferent. Heater in my room quit working (would not quit blowing, did not heat, was very drafty) twice... repaired but still when its cold and damp you expect to not have to wear jeans and a hoodie to bed, no? Hard to justify the price point, except the legislature is in session. Close to numerous restaurants. Unlikely to return.
Hard to locate as GPS could not find it wonderful help from Jeffrey Jeffrey at the desk who actually came and picked us up because we had been looking forward for a little while. Apparently there are two round Lonnbaccd streets. Jeffrey , a hotel employee graciously came in, found us and we followed him to the hotel! Very grateful for his help RICK and Suzanne Fletcher.
Jami serviced me at the front desk and she was amazing! I had come in early and I asked if there was a room available. There was not, but Jami took down my name and number and contacted me as soon as a room was available. That was so kind of her. She has excellent customer service skills and a pleasant disposition.
Nothing
Hotel was dirty and musty. Initially room had fan running to clean up after a broken a/c. 2nd room the a/c did not work and the room was musty and dirty with pubic hair on the wall !
Quiet room 5th floor
Facility needs some TLC:
- The bathroom soap dispensers fell off the wall and no one bothered to reattach them.
- Carpet is torn / needs patching in many common areas.
- Large black scrape on the bedroom wall.
- Linens smell like smoke.
- Hard boiled eggs in the breakfast buffet were room temp (not hot, not cold) - is that safe? You had to peel your own eggs but because the lighting was so dim it was almost impossible.
- Recyclable plates and bowls were used in the dining area (great!) but no there was recycling bin to out them in when finish (bad!).
Nothing
Location was scary, noisy and we had to book another room at different hotel.
I have nothing additional to add. Overall I had a great stay at this Hotel.
The only noticeable thing that I saw were the tiny little sugar ants around the sink near the front door. But that’s nothing out of the norm to see every now and then.
Jeffrey was great..helpful and very knowledgeable for us, but trip advisor was terrible..don't use 3rd party for reservation..Jeffrey tried to make it right..great stay here
Good location beside I-10. Restaurant adjoining the parking lot was very good. Room was comfortable and clean.
The TV in our room did not work. The thermostat in our room did not control the A/C unit.
