I am not a first-time guest at Dar Al Tawhid Makkah Hotel. In fact, I always stay here whenever I visit Makkah, especially during Ramadan. I know the hotel and its standards well, which is why I felt the need to share this experience.

During iftar yesterday, I politely asked Mr. Khaled Kahilah if I could take a small dessert plate to my suite to enjoy with coffee. At first, I was told it was not allowed. Then he said it would be fine as long as it was a small plate. However, when I tried to leave, I was stopped and told it was not permitted.

I explained that Mr. Khaled had approved it, but in front of the restaurant entrance, his response suddenly changed and I was told I could not take it. This created a scene at the entrance and was honestly very embarrassing, as if I were making something up, even though I had asked politely and followed exactly what I was told.

What happened was not professional and not acceptable!! I hope there will be clearer communication among staff to avoid situations like this in the future!

Being an IHG member does not count. The occupancy is so high not because of the service, which is extremely does not fit InterContinental brand, it is because of its location the closest to the Grand mosque. Renovation is a must. Food is the lowest. Value does not match the price at all. Lack of experienced and hospitable staff.

Warning: If you have allergies from perfumes or strong smells, stay away from this hotel, even with wearing a mask the perfumed air freshener is suffocating. Despite a few concerns, this is still my favorite hotel in Makkah. It is right in front of the haram and less crowded in front of the hotel compared to the areas in front of Hilton and clock tower hotels. Across from the back door is Jabal Omar shopping center and food court. The hotel says they have a kids play room.

We stayed in the old classic style floor (not the renovated modern floor), facing the haram. The whole hotel has the prayers on the speakers. The rooms were comfortable, clean, and many amenities including robes and soft slippers. Beds were comfortable. However, there was no prayer rug (was it missing?) and there is no real mini-fridge, it is a tiny bar that can only fit a line of canned drinks. Also, the central system of lighting is so complicated that it takes half an hour to click countless buttons to figure out how to close a curtain or turn off or on a certain light. It was also very cold and we couldn't figure out a solution (there is no heat). Even after turning off A/C it was still freezing so we asked for extra blankets. The restaurant breakfast buffet was incredible and everything tasted amazing. We also tried the dinner buffet which was also amazing. There is a cafe with great food. Room service was limited in options and overpriced, but the chef generously cooked for us a special meal not on the menu.

All staff throughout hotel were wonderful. What bothered me most was that the hotel seemed understaffed, with both restaurants and Zamzam cafe and housekeeping staff all running nonstop until they were sweating and panting in order to keep everything going perfectly. This is unacceptable, just because the customers are satisfied is no excuse for such slave labor, you can afford to hire more people and if you have a shortage then don't accept so many customers.
