Hotel Baia Grande

Positives: lovely pool bar staff and piano bar staff, rooms looked after daily, breakfast great especially the omelette. Lovely touch for birthday cake delivery.

Negatives: Do not expect earlier check in or any helpful/cheery check-in staff.... actually rude! No welcome at all. 'Passports?' was all we were greeted with. Worldcup was advertised all over hotel but they had a singer in the bar at same time plus the TV switched off in the middle of a game. Hold onto keycard for room or they will charge you 30euro on departure. Pool towels ready for bin! Piano bar staff lovely but no atmosphere. Ants in both our rooms!

Ubers are 6_12euro to old town. I would not go there with young children. More geared towards couples or girl/lad trips.

It has been a great trip to Baia Grande hotel Albufeira . The service and staff have been amazing. So very friendly and caring and very encouraging if you speak even basic Portuguese like please and thank you.

The food has also been amazing the breakfast buffet has a wonderful selection and the dinner buffet is just as varied. This is me even better. By the cook to order pasta section, that was a nice surprise.

The pools both indoors and outdoors are great clean and very fun and very nice space to sun bath and or go for a dip. The pool bar was also nicely stocked with different foods and drinks.

The rooms are large and clean with extra pillows and blanket if needed. It also has a great fast working air con system.

Honestly can't fault the hotel or the staff best trip ever. We will be back! And with greater numbers 😀

We were at Baia Grande for 1 week 23rd/30th June. One of our best holidays !! So welcoming and pleasant the Portuguese people are. Special thanks to Pedro, Suzeta, Dora, Ana Rita, Laura, Kaunan and both lady's on omelette Station especially Pamela. Both my wife and I have never felt more welcomed at a hotel. Can't thank u all enough for our wonderful stay. Atmosphere great, restaurant and food a delight. Even people we met while there were so nice. The hotel is spotless piano bar fabulous huge well done to the two bar lads who work extremely hard and make great cocktails 🍹 food lovely. Down side towels very thin and poor quality and there are no hooks in the bathroom to hang anything. And the reason I haven’t given a 5 is because the hotel has allowed far too many hen and stags in who are rude unruly and it’s going to ruin a really nice hotel :( tip on trips book the caves and dolphins really great and use uber to go everywhere really cheap. I would return to Portugal but not to this hotel due to the hens and stags.

We arrived at the hotel at approximately 10.30hrs only to be told that we could only check in at 15.00hrs. We were offered pool towels and access to a luggage room. We declined the towels and decided to go for a walk instead as all we really wanted was a shower and a cup of tea.
We finally got the keys at 15.00hrs. The room was lovely, absolutely spotless, loads of space for the 2 of us, beautiful bathroom and a great view of the pool area and the sea in the background.
I had to go to reception for some milk as the wasn't any on the hospitality tray. I was very surprised when the receptionist said that they didn't have any, neither did the shop next door. We finally got some the next day in the old town.
Our stay didn't start well but the rest of the holiday certainly made up for the bad start. The staff are all very helpful, professional and friendly. Everywhere inside and outside are kept spotlessly clean and tidy
There is a shuttle bus service from the hotel into the old town that is free to use at numerous times during the day but needs to be booked at reception on the day of use.
Breakfast and the evening meal are served on the 4th floor and hidden up there is a diamond called Joao Pedro who cooks fresh omlettes in the morning and amazing Italian pastas in the evenings. The buffet food is really good but the fresh pastas and omlettes are amazing 10 out of 10

Its a nice hotel with very good rooms. They keep it clean every day. Also the personel are very polite. The options in the hotel are endless with nice pools and a lot to do. Even a massage if you want. The food is variable and very tasty, everyday fresh. And the view is fantastic!

Super Lage,Nettes Personal,Tolle Pools

Firstly I would like to say that I agree with all the positives in most of these reviews. The general staff are superb and I could add more names to those already mentioned but I won’t as I would no doubt leave somebody out. I did feel that our reception upon arrival was very lukewarm just being told to wait until 3.00pm to get a room but meanwhile leave luggage in an unlocked room around the corner.

We discovered later that it looked like the hotel was only about a quarter full so why the wait? We were then allocated a room with the smallest balcony in the hotel which just about accommodated two chairs and a small table and was situated above the main bar/entertainment area.
On the third day we returned to our room around 6.00pm to find that it had not been serviced. After phoning reception, towels and toilet rolls were bought to us but we got told that there was no one available to make the bed. I presume that such a job was below the status of the towel deliverer.
On the fifth day we returned to the room at around 2.00pm and the room had again not been made up and we were out of toilet rolls. These were delivered promptly after calling reception and we were assured that the cleaning staff worked until 5.00pm so not to worry. Coming back to the room an hour later the bins had been emptied but the bed not made. Yet another call and a lady arrived who said that it was not her section but did do the necessary. All very strange.

There are some odd quirks with the hotel. Normally you arrive at a hotel and, if not all inclusive, they take a run of a card and you charge any purchases to the room. Here they don’t do that and you have to pay for every transaction on the spot.

Sometimes in the evening it is nice to sit on your balcony with a glass of wine perhaps and enjoy the view and the peaceful environment (When you’re not directly above the music area! )However you can’t really do that in this hotel. Every balcony is lit with cold white lighting until midnight over which you have no control. The biggest problem with this is that the walls all around you swarm with insects attracted to the light and you can get eaten alive. Crazy waste of electricity as well.

Food was generally good albeit a little limited in choice. Eating at 8.00pm we did find that that some dishes were not being refilled.

Sorry that this review seems very negative but it is exactly our experience. It is a nice hotel with an excellent pool which is ideal for children. As previously said the main staff are superb but we did almost wonder with our experiences whether we had managed to upset someone at management level but wouldn't know how. I know that being English doesn't always help in some quarters!!
