The location and quality of rooms were easily far beyond the cost, but I really want to talk about the service. Faith at the front desk and the valet whose name I missed (but he was USAF Security Forces at one point!) were absolutely phenomenal in every respect. We had a minor family emergency, and they were incredible.
This is definitely where I'll stay on every trip to St Augustine if this is what I can expect.
We go to St. Augustine about once per year and always stay here. The rooms are clean and comfortable. This is the perfect location to explore the city by foot.
We had a wonderful time. The hotel was conveniently located so we could walk whenever we wanted to. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful.
The hotel was very nice and clean and comfortable. Had a great bay view room. Close to the fort and good walking area.
Hot tub jets weren't working by the pool, and no way to turn on the balcony light of our room that we could find.
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience! From being greeted by the two amazing valet who helped us with our bags and car to check in with Beverly to thoughtful recommendations to a very clean room, comfy beds, to a delicious breakfast with extraordinary service by Shiraz, we really enjoyed our one night stay! Location was great for being right in the heart of Saint Augustine historical district.
St. Augustine is filled with history, shopping, restaurants and is just a lovely area.
Our hotel wasn't the best choice. The location was good, right downtown and easy walking to everything. We didn't rent a car but it was easy to get everywhere we wanted to go. Uber was very reasonable. Downside we didn't book directly through Hilton so our first room overlooked a construction site and second room (they changed us once) looked out at a port-a-potty in a small office yard.
Front desk had a lovely, pleasant, sympathetic clerk named Faith.
Great, great location. We didn’t rent a car and we were able to walk everywhere. We had a room with a balcony facing the city. It was nice sitting on the balcony. We feel that for the price we paid, breakfast should have been included. There is a restaurant on site and the food is delicious. There are several restaurants on the same block- all delicious food. Make sure you check your invoice. We were charged a couple hundred dollars for valet parking and we didn’t even have a car there. I did call the hotel and they did rectify it. Clean hotel.
The location of the hotel was perfect. It is located across from the bay and close to many restaurants and stores.
The hotel is awesome! They are in the middle of making some renovations and there is some tarps and painting going on in the hallways.
Great location, close to historic area. Literally walk just minutes to great restaurants, fort, cathedral and much more!! Had a balcony room overlooking the bay with beautiful views, it was Valentine weekend so it was super busy. We had an issue with the air conditioning, but the maintenance person responded quickly took care of it.
Would give 3.5 stars
PROS:
Very convenient location
Pleasant, helpful, & caring staff (however, Faith said the room rate for Saturday night was exceptionally high -- higher than she's ever seen so she would take $100 off. Upon looking later, she didn't -- only $20. The other $80 she took off was for parking we never used, as I told her. We Ubered from Jacksonville).
Updated rooms
Clean
Spacious Room with storage
Many counter height sockets are available in-room
Hot tub (but we were only told there was an outdoor pool, and since it was not going to be warm enough, we did not bring our suits to use)
Pretty architecture
CONS:
Booking was difficult and inconvenient since we wanted connecting rooms, which they advertise for, and we still didn't get what we wanted. Would have preferred 2nd floor if we could not get connecting rooms.
Noisy (outside noise from our room on 1st floor but also some interior noises like doors, ice machine, talking, dogs whining & barking)
Bed was a bit like sleeping on hay*
Intermittent smell of perfume covering up cigarette smoke in the hallways which seeped into our rooms
Neutral: no cost water available but all in plastic bottles
*Hotel staff checked in after our first night and offered to move our room (we had 2 rooms and only 1 more night so we didn't want that) and a mattress topper.
Overall, for the price, we expected more based on staying at many hotels (this was as costly as a nice hotel in NYC). And for those driving, expect to pay $40 per night (while we did not drive, we were automatically charged for that, so pay attention). We don't have a basis of comparison to other hotels in St. Augustine though.
Perfect customer service! The food was amazing and unexpected. Bay view room was worth the price.
I have stayed at many Hilton owned properties, from Hampton Inns on Cape Cod to the Waldorf Astoria in Chicago. I can say with certainty that the Hilton St Augustine Historic Bayfront has become my favorite (yes, even more so than the Waldorf). You cannot beat the location; right on Matanzas Bay and steps from the Historic District, the Castillo de San Marcos and all the shops and restaurants. Speaking of restaurants, treat yourself to a dinner at their own Aviles restaurant in the hotel. The food is on the pricier side, but it's worth having one exceptional dinner while you're there. The hotel and the rooms are immaculate and well appointed with comfortable beds. If you choose to get a Bayside room, as I did, yes there will be some street noise. This is a busy tourist area, so that's to be expected. I used a white noise app on my phone to mask it and was fine.
Last but not least, what makes this hotel stand out is its staff. Every single person working there; front desk, waiters, housekeeping ...everyone was kind and attentive. The front desk staff were incredibly knowledgeable and ready with recommendations on where to eat and what to see. They sell tickets to the hop on hop off trolley and some of the attractions right at the front desk as well. They made the trip so much more enjoyable and as someone who was traveling alone, I felt very comfortable and watched out for. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
My wife and I just returned from a 4 day visit to the this Hilton and would probably return - the location is very convenient to visiting not only the historic downtown sights but many excellent restaurants as well. I'll pass on a few pros and cons that come to mind:
Pro:
The front desk, valet and bartending staff were all excellent - always available, friendly, hard-working and helpful. Brett and (I believe?) Heather were at the desk when I checked in and put me in a nice large room with a balcony facing the bayfront, as requested.
The room was clean and the mattress was comfortable.
Although there is no direct line to call the valet prior to departure we never had to wait more than a moment for our car (and calling the front desk to alert the valet worked for this task also).
There is a Starbucks in the lobby that we appreciated every morning - the woman who worked there was friendly. Wish a light breakfast was included for all guests.
The hotel is steps away from historic sights, restaurants, and the pedestrian-only St. George street. (Forgotten Tonic was our favorite restaurant)
The room's A/C has the ability to run a quite loud fan in addition to heating and cooling - something I appreciated as it helped drown out most outside noise.
Con:
And yes, there was some notable outside nightlife noise, especially on the weekend nights. Our balcony ran right over a popular sidewalk next to a busy street, with a very popular restaurant/bar with outside seating right next door. Traffic and pedestrian noise was pretty much not a problem at night, especially with the loud A/C fan running, but your every-so-often "WOO-HOOs!" from the bar patrons could still penetrate. Fun for them, a bit less for us. I will say things usually quieted by 11 or so.
As stated the room was large but felt a bit worn and perhaps under-furnished (a random chair and side table seemed to be moved to a corner just to take up space - no table lamp). No carpeting on the floor - something I associate with beaches but perhaps not here? - and quite a few paint scrapes and needed touch-ups on the wall. I gather the hotel is undergoing an overhaul and this room needs it. If they'd given me a price break on this 'pending refurbishment' room it would go down better - as it was the room was very pricey.
While the mattress was comfortable the pillows were not - big stuffed things that immediately collapsed when you put your head down, resulting in big pillow mountains on either side of your head.
We did not get the promised daily room cleaning one day and had to call down for new towels.
We have stayed at this location multiple times because we always know we will have consistent good service and clean , comfortable rooms.
