Absolute gem of a hotel ! Beautiful hotel with excellent amenities and perfect location. Staff went above and beyond, and breakfast was excellent. Recommend 100%!
This hotel boasts an excellent location near Riga cathedral and Dome Square. our room (business double) was clean and well equipped with good walk in shower, air con, and some English TV channels. Breakfast was okay, with scrambled eggs, beans, bacon, toast plus the usual cereals and a few pastries. Good coffee!
The hotel is showing it's age a bit, and some things need attention (for example, we requested four additional pillows but were told there was only one spare in the whole hotel), but the staff were friendly and helpful.
This is a nice old fashioned hotel. It has a good location. If you are getting picked up for The hill of crosses trip it is just round the corner. The meeting point for the Market tour and Old town tour is just a five minute walk. My room 109 was in the old part of the hotel just off the reception with half a dozen stairs to climb and about 4 or 5 other rooms on that landing, so very quiet and the room looked out on to a quiet back street. The room itself was a superior twin which was very roomy, an old fashioned decor with large beams, so if you are tall, watch your head. The bed was firm but comfortable. It has a tv with English channels. There is a kettle but bring your own coffee. A fridge but no milk so remember to buy some. There is drinking water and you can refill your bottle at the filter water machine on floor 3. The shower didn’t have shower gel. It had shampoo and conditioner in dispensers in the shower and a hand wash dispenser at the sink. I’m sure they would provide shower gel if asked. The room was cleaned every day and the hotel staff were lovely and friendly. The breakfast was ok but I’ve had better. They have bacon, scrambled eggs, pancakes, porridge, cake etc but not much cereal and fresh fruit. I think this hotel is becoming a little frayed hence the four stars but we had a wonderful stay and would recommend. The highlight was the rooftop restaurant upstairs which is fantastic as is Riga itself.
Perfect staff
I’m convinced this hotel pays for their reviews!
I was promised a modern room online per photos, and instead I received the last old musty smelly room with a super hard bed. When I turned on the AC, it smelled when running. All the mold/mustyness in the room made me so congested I couldn’t sleep.
And to boot, from the moment I checked in in the afternoon until well past my bed time, there was a DJ spinning next door. From inside my room the decibel rating on my phone was over 90. Sometimes the DJ would get slightly quieter, probably from a complaint, and then the volume would be right back up with the next track.
This hotel for not deserve its ratings. It is not wonderful, relaxing, charming, or clean… it is old, out of date, musty, loud and overpriced. Do yourself a favor and look up how many people mention the DJ and smell. Can’t wait to check out and stay somewhere else!!
A fantastic traditional hotel in the perfect location.
Staff , breakfast , convenience , enjoyable room and services.
The room was charming and very affordable during the peak tourist season. I had a lovely dinner at the rooftop restaurant (the salmon was excellent—the views were just as good!) Upon check-in, I advised the front desk that I needed to check out early due to a flight. Since I was missing the breakfast buffet, the hotel staff arranged that a sack breakfast be prepared for myself and my daughter. That was an unexpected and most welcome surprise. I’d stay here over and over.
Perfect location...amazing friendly staff and nice comfortable rooms
Great location
This is a beautiful hotel right in the center of Old Riga (the Cathedral, which marks the effective center of the city, is next door). Great value for money. All of the key historical sites are within walking distance. The room was clean and had a unique style. The view from the rooftop restaurant is great. The breakfast is great. I have no complaints.
Hotel with character in a great location to explore the old town on foot. Big rooms, lovely shower. Free to use safe in the room.
Breakfast more than adequate, buffet style.
The rooftop terrace bar and restaurant is characterful, and has sweeping views of the city. We had drinks there, and ate once. Highly recommended. In March it was covered, but in warmer weather it is opened up.
The staff were universally helpful, and friendly. One of the receptionists rose to her feet every time we walked past.
The hotel offered value for money, a welcoming experience, and great location. Would return.
Amazing heartfelt hotel on a good location in Riga old town. Friendly service and clean Rooms. Breakfast could Be better, but it was sufficient and got The Job done. Everything seem to Be very negotiable (check-in/check-out (For a small extra fee ofcourse) they do provide and cater to your needs and hopes 🫶🏻
Great hotel - room, breakfast, staff and location!
The location is excellent, directly in the old town area. It’s close to everything on foot or by tram.
The hotel room was ok. It was spacious and clean. Two issues I found: the mattress dipped in the middle and it smelled dusty, which aggravated my allergies.
The rooftop restaurant had great views, excellent service and delicious food.
The ambience is from a time gone by, a time when charm & grace were highly valued. A delightful change from chrome. I would live to come back when I could stay longer. I do have one thought. I originally chose here because of the elevator; I have heavy luggage because I will be working in Europe for quite awhile. Unfortunately a person must lug their luggage up 12 steps to get to the elevator.
Great location! Breakfast included was also fantastic
Beautiful location, classy touches throughout the hotel.
Thank you for amazing stay during Christmas time at Gutenbergs hotel. We were greeted by friendly and welcong receptionist Baiba who made sure we have a queen bed room instead of twin room, breakfast was nice in a nice room downstairs, location was great just stones throw from Doma laukums with all Christmas markets and ambience, recommend if you like to stay in the nicest part of Riga
The only issue I had was the tub with a shower. The tub is very high to get in and out the the shower being on the side wall was annoying also no shower liners so everything got wet
