While our stay had some positive elements, there were a number of issues that made the experience less enjoyable than expected.
We arrived to find that renovation work was being carried out in the breakfast, bar, and lounge areas, meaning these facilities were completely unavailable during our stay. Unfortunately, this was not communicated to us at any point during the booking process and only became apparent once we had already arrived at the property, which was disappointing.
To their credit, we were upgraded to a better room. However, even this room still had a noticeable smell of fresh paint, which made it feel less comfortable and not quite ready for guests.
After arriving late, we asked for a hot drink, which was kindly prepared for us at the time. However, we were surprised to see that this had been added to our bill the next day. Given the disruption caused by the ongoing work and limited facilities, it would have felt more appropriate for this to have been offered as a complimentary gesture.
Due to the renovations, we also had no option but to have breakfast in our room, as there were no communal spaces available to use. While this was manageable, it did take away from the overall experience, especially as shared spaces are often part of what makes a stay more enjoyable.
Overall, while the effort to compensate with a room upgrade was appreciated, better communication in advance and a few more thoughtful gestures during the stay would have made a significant difference.

Nice room, very comfortable bed. Hotel lobby was being renovated so not looking at its best.
Lady on the desk was fun and very helpful, between our bad French and her decent English.
