Great location in close proximity to the Arch
Below is my original review. Less than 24 hours after leaving this review the manager reached out to me! Impressive!! She was very kind and genuinely wanted to know how they could improve. It was a very nice discussion and I was truly blown away by her commitment to service. I wouldn't even say my original review was terribly negative, and she wanted to make it better. As I said in the original review the bed was super comfy, the location is fantastic. I will be staying at the Pennywell again. Not only because of the location, but more for the service provided by the manager. My original review stands, and I believe my stay at the end of this month will be even better. Thank you Hilton Pennywell!!! More to come :-)
Original Review: MEH
It’s fine. Here for work and on the company dime. Staff is nice enough. Charles, the valet, is fantastic and really seems to enjoy his job, people and helping them. The location is very convenient. Self parking is difficult as the spaces are very narrow. Valet is expensive but we are downtown. The room is nice. I can kind of see the arch, and a rooftop. Housekeeping failed to replenish coffee, empty trash, or clean the coffee maker. But they did make the bed and give me towels. The bed is VERY comfy. So, overall meh
everything:)
Location
Being locked out of room due to battery going out with lock. Toilet had issues that wouldn’t flush and overflowed. Both issues were fixed but not something I was expecting. Also the amount I paid for room included breakfast but according to employee serving breakfast it wasn’t. It got straightened out at front desk but not something I should have to worry with. The air conditioning was loud and wouldn’t cool down till early morning.
The hotel is in an old federal reserve. Really cool decor and just a few steps from the Arch. Rooms were very clean and loved the fact they offered a space with two king beds.
They tried to charge me more than what I paid on Booking. I ended up paying the right amount only after insisting for a while. First hotel in years of traveling that tried to do this to me...
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were very clean. The breakfast buffet was delicious. We were in walking distance to the Arch and Busch Stadium.
nothing....
In a town where the local labor pool has little desire to work, I know that I can rely on the staff at this hotel to come through. Front Desk Agents are always smiling - big plus! I can rely on V, Juli and Rana to be ready with their smiles whenever I walk through the lobby. Sarah is always helpful, too.
Breakfast is always a delight as Kayla, the hardest working server, is on it with her politeness and courteous way of taking the care of the Guest. Her colleague Nia is always smiling, too.
I'm at the tail end of a 6-week work trip and am really enjoying the hotel. I like seeing the Housekeeping team always keeping that lobby looking good. I usually avoid them coming into my room, but a on long stay I'll remove the DND sign about once a week. I come back and the room is fresh and clean - love it.
The neighborhood may not be the greatest - especially after dark - but if you plan your day correctly, and as daylight savings has happened you can figure out the few eateries around here.
The hotel is a revitalized bank with historic significance for St. Louis. Walk around the lobby and appreciate the details in the ceiling and around the vault doors. Around the corner is the Gateway Arch - a view that never gets old! Every other morning I'll grab my Starbucks from across the street, sit in the park and enjoy the view. The Mississippi River is just behind. The museum down below is free and tells an excellent story of St. Louis and it's significance in America. You'll see numerous well preserved artifacts from the old days - really cool! Note that there a few specific rooms that have stunning views of the Arch and others of the Eads bridge - the first steel bridge - the Martin Luther King Jr. bridge, the mighty Mississippi and Illinois all together. At night and all lit up is truly an amazing view. I like room 727.
Management has done a very nice job running a good hotel. This is a good choice for holding your corporate events and local sports centers.
Beautiful hotel with nice amenities. Beds were super comfortable.
Convenient location and very clean. Staff was friendly.
The main issue was that our TV didn't work. I made sure it was plugged in, the remote lit up when I pressed power button, indicating the batteries worked, but it would never turn on. I called for help but it was too late for maintenance.
Also, the beds weren't the worst, but weren't the best either. Also, the room seemed really cold, even when I adjusted the thermostat.
The location was great and the hotel itself was nice the lobby and outside. Breakfast was good.
Out room was dirty plan flat out dirty. I went down to ask about it and desk at guest service was gone. I couldn't wait for them because I had reservations. The table beside the bed was sticky and had drinks spilled on it it clearly wasnt cleaned the bathroom was dirty and even had trash from the last guest on the floor under the sink there was hair all over the bathroom floor and the door.. I have pictures of this. I only stayed one night and always travel with disinfectant wipes so I cleaned the necessities myself.
Had a great stay! Jameer and Connor in valet were very polite and helpful. There was an issue with my room on arrival but it was handled quickly and efficiently by the staff.
Excellent. An vi at the front desk was fabulous. Very welcoming and accommodating to all of our needs. Best service we have ever had from front desk.
Conner cave from valet was amazing. Helped with our luggage and extremely helpful with assisting in our checkout.
Will be staying again at the pennywell for the staff alone.
