The Cleveland Tontine

Good little place to stay very personable with polite friendly staff. Restaurant available with seasonal menus which was very reasonably priced. Booked room only but did have breakfast again tasty . Also dog friendly .

The Tontine is a beautiful country hotel and our room with a standing bath was superb. The staff were both friendly and helpful and couldn’t do enough for us. I’m in no doubt we will be returning at some point.

Wonderful room, bath deep enough for a whale (and no danger of proving the Archimedes Principle). Food, service and drinks very nice. Was there on the Saturday that the second lockdown was announced - staff visibly upset but still did their jobs as true professionals

Overall the stay was very good. However, the service at dinner left a lot to be desired - we waited 90 mins for our first course. We accept that Covid has put additional pressures on the hotel and put the delay down to this, I'm sure the service will improve. The young man serving behind the bar (and at breakfast) was a real credit to the hotel! In summary, good hotel, minor blip....

Stopped here overnight as it was just off the A19 on our way north. The location is slightly isolated but the hotel and the staff were lovely. The room was very comfortable and had a rather quirky design. Interesting wallpaper! Nice free standing bath for those who like a soak but the separate shower was better for me. Choice of Farmers menu or "a la carte" for the evening meal. We had the latter which was very good and reasonably priced at around £23 for two courses. Comfortable bar area with nice log fire. Breakfast was traditional fare and very good. Relaxed atmosphere with friendly and helpful staff. Overall a very nice stay. Hotel also has Bistro restaurant downstairs but this was closed on the night we stayed. Would be very happy to visit again.

Stayed for one night at the Cleveland Tontine. Had a really warm welcome on arrival. I stayed in the beautiful room 2 - huge space to work from and comfortable for an evening in.
I had room service dinner which was fantastic quality and served quickly. I would recommend staying here as a work trip and for a couples stay over too. Great place, will be back.

Lovely hotel. Good food and a really cosy bar. The staff were exceptional. Friendly, very welcoming and couldn’t do enough for you. The service was all about making your stay as memorable as possible. Excellent overall.

Took an hour from ordering a drink and menu to receiving a simple steak, and then kept waiting 30 minutes in the morning for breakfast
