El Portal more than lived up to expectations. Can't wait to return for another visit!
Pros:

Excellent continental breakfast with a nice variety of pastry options, and great coffee, tea, and fruit options to choose from.
Staff was great and we really enjoyed meeting the owner, Steve, in particular who was very gracious and engaging.

Cons:

Nothing. Everything was great!

Exceptional Experience
Pros:

Our experience at El Portal was wonderful in every way. We stayed in Room # 3 The Garden Court... it 9x143looked even more spacious in person. Loved the
decor and warmth of our room and main lobby area with fire always going and at night big firepit in courtyard to sit around. This place has so much character and attention to detail..it truly feels magical being here. The staff and guests we met were all so nice. We had the opportunity to meet Steve the owner who was very personable and you can see his passion for making this place what it is.Even as a pet friendly hotel it was very quiet and the dogs we did see were well behaved!

A portal back in time to the luxury of an adobe guest home. Luxurious simplicity. Equsite detail & craftsmanship!
Pros:

EVERYTHING! Our rooms simple, authentic furnishings, original art, fireplace - ahh! The garden courtyard with nightly fires outside and the lodge lobby with gorgeous timbers, homemade cookies and meeting the basset hounds was a highlight.

Cons:

El Portal was perfection for our 38th anniversary Sedona staycation.

Not as expected
Pros:

Unfortunately not what we expected. The room we stayed in was a bit worn out, towels and blankets were old and worn and it needed a paint job. Our view was a parking lot full of UHaul trucks. I booked 4 days before our arrival and I couldn’t find a confirmation. I called and the lady told me I was confirmed but I could look at the available rooms when I arrived. I looked on the website and the prices were $159 LESS then when I booked. That was so disappointing. If it was $50 I probably wouldn’t have been offended.
When we arrived I was told all the other rooms were on “hold”! Complimentary snacks were nice but, the place really needs a refresh and they shouldn’t adjust the rate by almost 50% ever. It really left me feeling offended.
