Homewood Suites by Hilton Sarasota

Not an attractive location but a convenient 15 minute drive to anywhere you'd need to be in Sarasota. Great staff. Nice breakfast. Clean common areas, but rooms and hallways showing their age for sure.
Price on Hilton app, with discounts, close to TWICE other kitchenette longer stay brands in the area AND other Homewood Suites in the county. This is not a $US 500 (449+tax) per nite property. My last stay after many years.

I arrived at the Homewood Suites in Sarasota (3470 Fruitland Road) in 72 degree weather. When I went into the hallway to one building, it felt like 90 degrees. My room was the same, the AC didn't work and the windows didn't open. I complained. I was given another room in another building and had to drag three suitcases by myself. The AC worked, but when I went to get a spoon I found a roach crawling over everything in the utensils drawer. The following night roaches were everywhere: the frig, cabinets, bed and coming out of the wall sockets. Disgusting. They comped me one night, but I'm pushing for all three nights. Never mind that when I asked about nearby restaurants I was directed only to a Wendy's. The hotel is located in an ugly commercial strip area, but is central to many things in Sarasota.

Room was ok. Kitchen tiles were broken and some of the cabinet doors didn’t close properly and one had a broken hinge

I wanted to share that I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Cindy, the front desk associate was warm and friendly. Thank you for a restful sleep while my Dad was in the hospital.

I needed some time away from my regular routine . This look like the perfect spot , away from the noise but close enough to the beach . Traffic was ridiculous, but the stay at the hotel was nice . I relax a lot and enjoyed the wine on Wednesday, that was nice

As my family and I were preparing for bed our 1st night we made a disturbing discovery: live bed bugs on the pillowcase and inside the pillow itself.
I immediately went to the front desk to report the issue. I was informed by the desk personnel that the hotel had no other rooms available. I then requested their assistance in securing a room at a nearby Hilton property, which I was told they could not or would not do. I asked to speak with a manager, but was informed that one manager was on vacation and the other would not respond to a text message at that time of night. The hotel offered no assistance or alternative solutions, leaving my family without a safe place to sleep.
I then personally contacted the Hilton customer service number. Thankfully, the corporate customer service team was professional, empathetic, and ultimately provided a complimentary room for us at a different hotel location. I was informed the general manager would contact us the next day to follow up, but no call was received that day or the day after.
At this point we discovered that we were charged for the second night. When my husband eventually contacted the GM's (which we had proactively do) we were told that while the hotel found no indication of bed bugs, they would process a refund anyway. Note, if we didn’t check our credit cards or contact the GM this refund would not have been provided.
The most disappointing aspect of this entire ordeal was not necessarily the bed bugs or the lack of available rooms, as sometimes these things are beyond immediate control, but the profound lack of customer service, empathy, and follow-up from the front desk staff and the general manager.
Given my experience and after reading many other online reviews mentioning ongoing issues with pest control and poor management follow-up at this specific location, I strongly advise all travelers to be cautious when making reservations at this Hilton location.
