Wonderful relaxing stylish mellow boutique hotel in a touristy city
Pros:

Beautifully presented. Very helpful and polite staff. Good English spoken. Rooms simple but stylish. Excellent Japanese bath.

Cons:

Breakfast and dinner were a bit close to each other in terms of food content. The dine is fabulous though

Elevated Japanese hospitality and comfort in a quiet neighborhood.
Pros:

Exceptional hospitality from the front desk with a good grasp of English. Traditional Japanese luxury; tatami mat rooms (no shoes on), futon beds, nice space and living area. The best part was the traditional cypress wooden bath rub for soaking; it was huge, water temp was excellent as was the shower. Good privacy if staying with others. Also very quaint and quiet.

Cons:

It was very expensive for what it was, but we booked on the later side in the middle of Sakura season, so by comparison it was probably a deal. While safe and quiet - didn't seem to have a lot to offer, felt more like a local neighborhood. That said, we were only there for one night and it was rainy and a bit cold, so perhaps with more exploration we would have discovered the upsides.

Room was not as big as I expected. No place to store luggage or unpack luggage due to tatami floor.

Lovely place to stay. Convenient but not too close to mobs of tourists.
Pros:

Nice staff. Excellent restaurant for a special meal. Beautiful rooms. Soaking tubs in both our rooms were nice.

Pros:

Location was very good for seeing garden and museum. Cool and hip vibe.

Cons:

Need more towels without asking - room has a sauna so that is obvious.

Clean rooms. Well appointed with coffee/tea/snacks and mini bar. Very relaxing. Restaurant was very good for dinner and traditional Japanese breakfast (NOT Western style if that is your hope) walkable to transit, convenience stores, restaurants and some traditional temple sites. Welcoming, friendly and helpful staff. Would recommend!
