charming colonial feel in building. lovely entrance . good security. friendly staff.
bathroom didn't flush well, even after engineering was called.
on-site restaurant food lacks flavor. local food is better.
Beautiful hotel with a very kind and welcoming staff. The room was comfy, the pool area was beautiful, and the restaurant was tasty
Absolutely loved it here. Wish we were here for longer. I enjoyed the atmosphere and design, its very warm and inviting. The staff are helpful as well. I enjoyed the breakfast buffet, the pool area, and all the amenities. I would really reccommend a stay here. Easily walk to the heart of town too.
For the traveler this hotel offers an exceptionally comfortable, safe, well-appointed stay within walking distance to Parque Central and a wide variety of outstanding shopping and historical sites. My wife, son and I stayed four nights there, departing on Jan 1, 2026.
Upon entering the gardens are exceptionally manicured and display an intriguing mix of colors, shapes and textures that surprise and delight your eyes. Everywhere you look, you are rewarded with the beauty of nature and the hands that arrange it for your appreciation. Amid the flora, many secluded sitting areas are the perfect setting for intimate conversations, focused work and/or serene contemplation. The colonial architecture evolves the glory of the past while carefully selected art expresses pride in Guatemala’s indigenous past and inspires cultural inclusion without white washing the history of colonial conquest.
When you carefully scrutinize the details of this property, the condition of the masonry, the quality of the paint, the cleanliness of everything, etc. you discover exceptional pride of ownership and a commitment to a higher quality facility than hotels with a sharp focus on quarterly results cannot ever equal. The maintenance of the property clearly says, “We care and we love what we do!” Also, Porta makes special efforts to be safe by adding traction strips to ramps, highlighting steps and minimizing any risk to their guests.
We came and went at all hours and each entrance is staffed with vigilant yet pleasant staff. We were safe, and all of our things were secure. And it is important to know that Antigua is a pretty safe place for travelers.
And then there is the breakfast buffet, a cornucopia of ever changing choices. My family was consistently happy for this great start to their day. It was not just the extensive variety and quality; the chefs obviously loved their work and were proud to explain their food. I enjoyed the custom omelets, and tried many of the tamales and other foods new to me. It was discovery, and it was an adventure! To add to our pleasure, each morning a skilled piano player plays all sorts of music from memory, and takes requests.
The beautiful dining room, partly inside and partly outside, overlooks a swimming pool and its surrounding gardens. As you lift your eyes you study one of the magnificent volcanoes towering in the distance.
One day, after our room was cleaned, we discovered that there was no bar of soap. After breakfast, on the way back to our room, we mentioned it to the front desk. Imagine our surprise when we arrived minutes later and there were two bars waiting in the bathroom!
Each room is named for a indigenous group whose distinctive weaving is displayed inside. What a thoughtful connection to the people and to their culture! The rooms are spacious, the underlit vanity in the bathroom is a nice touch, and the beds were excellent. Moreover, the duvets were light so we didn’t get too hot in the middle of the night. Our room’s backside was located on a road, so we heard the loud noise of vehicles passing on the cobblestone road but we were so tired it did not matter! If this might be a problem for you, ask for one of their many quiet rooms in other locations.
We really missed our faithful dog, but the Porta’s pet friendly policy meant that we were never far from meeting a new animal friend and their companion! Also, the property is designed so that families of all ages enjoy being together. In addition to the pool, which is safe for all ages, there is a nice playground that keeps young guests happy, active and well entertained.
The timing of our visit straddled the New Year’s celebration, an internationally known signature event in Antigua. Each day staff happily added more decorations transforming the property into a vibrant festive wonderland. However, we were at the spectacular fireworks at Parque Central so we missed Porta’s extravagant party and buffet.
Saving some of the best for last, Porta has a unique and distinctive commitment to showcasing high-quality Guatemalan art. It is everywhere. You discover it in the hallways, the nooks and crannies of the ancient-looking walls, the rooms and in the gardens. It feels inventive, surprising and inviting, offering a fresh way to appreciate the rich cultural history of Guatemala. Expert lighting, thoughtful framing and creative placement reveal the care of skilled art connoisseurs. At this hotel, art is a distinctive priority, not an afterthought.
One of the highlights of our visit was visiting with Lola Spillari who is intimately involved with merging the history of Guatemala with its beautiful art and curating it throughout Porta. The hotel is her canvas, so to speak, and she passionately embraces this mission. She is also a well informed, delightful conversationalist and provides walking tours and historical background as well as general tourist insights for visitors eager to discover more.
Our stay at Porta was memorable in every way, a blend of comfort, culture and heartfelt hospitality that captures the engaging spirit of Guatemala. From the artistry that graces its unique spaces, to the attentive service and genuine warmth of the staff, Porta stands apart as far more than a place to stay. It is a place to experience, discover and learn. We left refreshed and grateful for this lovely, life long memory.
This was a welcoming hotel with helpful service and a wonderful and comfortable room. The breakfast buffet was excellent and the full size bathtub was a nice benefit! The only item that was not great were the soft, mushy pillows in the bed. The “welcome snack” was a very small cup of Fritos chips and a choice of three drinks but strangely we NOT allowed to sit at one of the outdoor tables near the bar—only the bar or the soft chairs near the TV screen.
Loved our experience. The staff was very hospitable, amenities clean and beautiful. Our kids loved the pool and small playground which we enjoyed in between activities. The hotel was very well located and walkable to everything, yet quiet in the evenings. Overall, a great choice.
We hosted a birthday and it was a most memorable time! The food was absolutely delicious!! Quality beef, flavorful chicken jacon, and the best frijoles we’ve ever had! The tables were nicely decorated, buffet area efficiently organized, and staff were wonderful. I cannot recommend enough to have an event and/or come and enjoy a meal at Porto Hotel Antigua!!
I absolutely LOVE this hotel. I’ve been coming for 23 years to Guatemala for medical Missions and I have brought my husband and friends multiple times. It is one of the best experiences for everyone. I love Jhoni at the concierge. He will not steer you in the wrong direction. Best recommendations for dinner!! I love the restaurant, the breakfast buffet and the rooms are so peaceful and beautiful!!! Service is A+ and I have traveled all over the world and rarely get the kind of service provided by Porta. I will always be back!!!!
Relaxing, welcoming, and want to stay with Porta again soon. The breakfast offerings amazingly delicious and plenty. Thank you
Terrible experience. Bland food, tiny portions and arrogant waiters. On top of that, other customers had no manners, blasting videos on their phones and nobody cared. Way too much money for such poor quality.
It was an absolutely delightful stay. From the gorgeous grounds to the friendly staff and great food, we thoroughly enjoyed it stay!
Our choice of Porta Hotel in Antigua was ideal; it is located in a quiet part of town but within easy walking distance to nearly everything. A beautiful and tranquil setting with great views of the volcanoes. Lovely rooms with luxury touches. Very friendly staff always offering concierge advice. Some of the best restaurants in Antigua within 5-10 minutes from our hotel. We would strongly recommend this hotel to all traveling adults!
Beautiful gem of a hotel in Antigua, Guatemala. Surrounded by beautiful vegetation and magnificent view. Attentive friendly staff and a comfortable room. It has a great vibe and the location was perfect. Close to the center and in the other direction close to amazing restaurants. All in all, a great experience.
Beautiful hotel in the historic district of Antigua. We felt we had gone back in time staying in this Spanish influenced hotel with the enclosed courtyards filled with flowers and water elements. The restaurant opened onto a courtyard and served excellent food.
I stayed for 5 days, and I look forward to returning. The staff is very kind and helpful, the grounds are nicely decorated and spacious, the rooms are nicely appointed clean, bright and comfortable. The complimentary coffee in the rooms was delicious. They produce it.
The gym was well equipped and clean.
The spa was excellent.
A special mention: Jessika Solarzano in customer service was so helpful to me when I needed it the most. I forgot I had put my passport in the safety box and left for the airport without it. I thought I had lost my passport when I got to the airport. I went to the Embassy to get an emergency one. They closed at noon on Fridays and could not help me. I would have to wait until Monday, 2-3 more nights. Then I got a message from Jessika saying my passport was at the hotel. She made arrangements to get the passport to me at a hotel in Guatemala City and I could go home the next day. I was so grateful.
Wonderful location ! Friendly staff ! Beautiful accommodations! Very comfortable room and felt very safe . Can’t wait to return
The hotel is nice and decent, but there are some drawbacks. You can hear cars and motorcycles going by from the rooms, which makes it noisy. The TV has no English option, which is inconvenient for travelers. The front desk staff were helpful but not very friendly.
The biggest issue was the private driver arranged by the hotel. It cost $60, and the ride felt unsafe. I would recommend using Uber instead — it’s cheaper and more reliable.
Overall, a decent stay but with room for improvement.
The massage at ceiba spa was great but not worth 350 dollars
We got the couple ritual
The only people who were truly kind and polite to us were the doormen, who were extremely friendly and attentive at all times. I really did not like this hotel and would not want to stay there again. The buffet doesn’t have many options, and I also didn’t like that the staff are the ones who serve the food, especially since, as I mentioned, they are not friendly.
Porta Hotel Antigua is a beautiful, old time feel hotel in the city center! The Arc and Central Park are within walking distance. The staff is friendly and patient. I had been texting back and forth with Yuiliana weekly before our arrival and she was always patient and responsive. We had a small room which was very tight with 2 adults and 2 toddlers, I asked for a large room but the front desk stated there were none available. Seems like there was a convention around the same time we were there. We made it work. The food at the restaurant, was yummy!! My husband is VERY picky with foods that don’t have flavor and he was surprisingly pleased with each meal!
All staff interactions were very friendly, from the front desk to the dinning hostesses to the housekeepers
Oh! And a plus, my husband and I wanted a couples massage but were concerned we had no one to watch our kids. The spa ladies were so gracious to watch them while my husband and I received a relaxing massage! I don’t recall their names but THANK YOU!!!
The morning view of the volcano was beautiful!
We ended up leaving a day early to stay at another hotel and the staff we accommodating and adjusted.
Thank you to all staff!
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. My only complaint is it was listed on Expedia that there was a sauna inside the spa and you can only use this if receiving a treatment in spa. Poor advertising!
