Right on the island. But that’s not necessarily a plus since nice photos are taken on the bridge which is 350m from the island. So it’s a 5-10 minute walk anytime you want to “see” MSM. It’s easier to get that Instagram shot if you stay on mainland.
The condition of the hotel is dated and poor. I know their disclaimer “it’s a historic hotel”, but that’s not a license NOT to change room carpet which looks to be about 20 years old and has not been vacuumed for a while.
The room is dark (ok I know it’s historic, but how about a brighter LED bulb?) How about not using dark grey wallpaper? I Cannot see things on the floor under dim light as the old carpet is dark grey as well.
Heaters in the room & bathroom not operational. And no AC.
Our “view room” has a 2 ft wide window looking at the parking and the bridge - a far cry from “bay view” as advertised. Be careful when you book a “bay view” room.
Reception is not at the hotel & is 1 block away where you have to go up a flight of stairs to get your key, then walk back down and up the street back to the hotel. Hotel is above the restaurant, but entry to hotel not marked. When you ask the restaurant ppl, they send you back to the reception down the street instead of telling you to enter thru a small unmarked door next to restaurant.
The only nice thing is the breakfast. Nice selections and good service.
Wasn’t expecting a 5 star hotel experience but when you charge people 5 star hotel price there’ some basic expectations.
Wonderful location and breakfast.
They use misleading advertising, the photos they show of the place to offer their rent, are not the place where I stayed. The place had a strong and nauseating smell and the window could not be opened, because the door is left open all night, my window overlooked a dirty and dark place, close to the cemetery. One of the worst places I have ever been in my life!
Love the location but hotel is looking tired
This hotel is located at the entrance so it’s very convenient. There are a significant amount of stairs so be prepared for that. The rooms are cute, beds are somewhat comfortable and the tv worked! Only real downfall was the restroom-it smelled terrible and I’m sure it was due to the very old plumbing but the smell was pretty awful. I hope it was just my room. Mont St Michel is amazing though and I had a wonderful time.
Breakfast was great - thanks, guys!
Clean room. Lots of stairs. Excellent food!
Our room was up several flights of stairs probably 70-80 in all but thats to be expected on the island. Breakfast was outstanding, the bathroom attached to the room was excellent and had a separate shower and tub. Bed was comfortable and you get two pillows per person (which we have found is rare for Western Europe).
Dining was excellent and staff very helpful. Great view from our attic room of a pastorale setting opposite the hotel.
Interesting
Le Mont Saint Michel is beautiful with great history. Our room was clean and well sized, but directions for parking, room location and provided breakfast were very unclear. Clearer instructions would have been appreciated.
Exceeded expectations. Be prepared for loads of steps
The room was shabby and plumbing for other bathrooms let me awake. The breakfast was average but the staff were rude and uncommunicative. Definitely not good value.
Great location though.
This hotel was absolutely amazing. The room was perfect. Windows open and could see the beauty of Mont st Michel. Breakfast was fabulous
We had an AMAZING room with amazing view of the bay - to reach our room we had to take the stairs to the 4th floor - well worth it though - breakfast was good
So charming. It was lovely to stay on the island and the breakfast was superb
Very pleasant stay!
The hotel is actually three separate buildings, so you don't automatically get a room in the initial hotel above the famous restaurant.
Only critique I would have is that we weren't given the hotel's six digit reservation code so we weren't able to enter the closest parking lot and had a long walk to the shuttle bus; but that may be Expedia's fault, not the hotel's, can't say for sure.
All in all, a lifetime experience, we loved it!
My expectations were for an old hotel in a beautiful setting. But the room was new and gorgeous with every modern accessory. The view from the three large windozs was stunning, and the bedding materials were very high quality. I will definitely return.
It was a great experience!! Breakfast was really delicious.
7 of us rented 4 rooms here in mid-September. We drove from Paris and the people we’ve encountered at Mont St Michel have were the rudest, meanest, most disgusting people I have ever encountered. It began before we even parked the car. The parking lot attendant made us drive in a 2 mile circle instead of simply making a right turn. Why? Because they hate anyone who speaks English. This initially didn’t bother me but after 3 unbelievably rude bus drivers (the buses were all completely empty by the way at ~ 4pm), one of whom slammed the door on my pregnant sister and then almost ran her over, my goodwill began to expire. There are no directions for checking, so you are left to carry your luggage around while you search for the checkin. The rooms all stink of feces and are covered in mold and dirt and general filth. Your feet stick to both the carpet floor and the linoleum bathroom floor because they are so dirty and gross. This is by far the worst place I’ve ever been. Thank god we only booked 1 night. This isn’t a 1-star hotel.
