Basic hotel with good breakfasts, friendly staff and a comfortable bed.
Pros:

We enjoyed our stay. Views from the Seaview rooms are amazing. Staff were friendly and helpful and having entertainment on site is a rare luxury these days. They have spent some money upgrading the building but it could do with a bit more work. Personally I think it is good that there are still hotels in the budget end of the spectrum. A few years ago almost every hotel suddenly seemed to feel they should only offer executive or exclusive accommodation and make you pay through the nose! I don't care if the decor is dated as long as the price is right and I get a good breakfast and a good view.

2nd enjoyable visit
Pros:

Me and my wife have just got back from a 2 night stay at the grand, we did a night last year and enjoyed it so booked again,

Check in is from 3pm, rooms are basic and clean although we did find someone's toothbrush behind the bedroom cabinet and a half eaten bar of chocolate under the bed so a bit more checking wouldn't harm,

We didn't eat here so can't comment on food, plenty of people seemed to be though there are plenty of reasonable places to eat in Llandudno,

Bar prices are reasonable could do with a bit more choice Tetley's was off all weekend which was a shame

Entertainment at night is a couple of singers then karaoke it's a nice atmosphere and they are both very good and likeable

Don't go and expect luxury the reception and the downstairs is nice and original the rooms aren't or our rooms haven't been, for what we paid we are more than happy with it and are looking to book again when the dates come out,

Tip if you fancy a nice walk turn right out of the hotel and walk round the orme and back into Llandudno took us about 2.5hrs lovely views, there's a cafe half way up

Spooked
Pros:

Went with myself and 3 friends on a coach tour , Hotel was bit run down ,bed was clean bathroom could have been cleaner , food wasnt 5 star but edible and plenty of , staff were all lovely entertainment was great throughout day and evening all good singers was over bells so might have been more entertainment than usual bar was deffinatly reasonably priced for a hotel , night before was due to leave had few strange things going on between 2 am and 4 am with voices lights and heavy breathing was bit freaked out so recorded sounds to let my freinds here as they wouldnt have beleoved me . They were saying someone was having a party but it was deffo not that and a lot of clinking and clunking noises , then i heard it has a reputation it is haunted well i do agree i never shut an eye all night after hearing what i heard and listning to the recording there was a light flying around room that i couldnt see with the naked eye but was on phone deffo spooky

Pleasantly Surprised
Pros:

Having read some of the negative reviews on here, I approached the hotel with some apprehension - it was the hotel used by a coach travel company and the only one offering a single room. So I wasn't expecting much.

I couldn't have been more wrong. The room was simply furnished but warm, comfortable and (most importantly) immaculately clean. The en-suite was equally clean, rather in need of a refurbishment but everything worked, the over-bath shower was like standing in the way of a jet wash (I doubt I've ever been cleaner!) and the water was consistently hot. Yes, things looked a bit tired and dated but, frankly, so do I ... and the place dripped with character, a magnificent entrance lobby, fantastic views over the bay from the lounges and any rooms on that side of the building (these are premium rooms) and you could sense its former opulence. In its heyday it attracted people like Lily Langtry and Winston Churchill as well as, ahem, Margaret Thatcher.

Food was perfectly acceptable if unadventurous - it knows its clientele, coach tours of people in their sixties, seventies and above want things with which they're familiar. Buffet service, help yourself to as much or as little as you want. The menu was rather limited - three main courses at dinner - and, if you're vegetarian (as I am) you need to request this from the staff at each meal. Which is actually a good thing: I have frequently gone hungry at buffets because the carnivores have thought, "Ooh, that looks nice," and grabbed all the veggie food before I got to it. But it's worth knowing that you do need to ask; nobody told me on the first night and I had to concoct a meal from salad, potatoes and so on.

The cabaret in the downstairs bar (the ballroom, back in the glory days of the hotel) was pretty grim - a guy belting out a medley of 1960s to 1980s hits with no particular attention to details like tune ... But most guests were of an age to want to listen to Michael Jackson, Queen and so on covers, even though I'm roughly that age too and nothing would be less appealing to me. One man's meat, as they say ... The main bar on the Reception level was much quieter and really did feel like the lounge bar of a decent hotel. Drinks were very competitively priced, cheaper than my local pub. Staff immaculately dressed, polite and attentive.

Across the hotel, the staff were brilliant. best of any hotel in which I've stayed - and that's quite a few, including some top names. Attentive, pleasant and they didn't stand around chatting to each other while on duty. They had the skill of knowing just how long to leave you after finishing a course before taking away the plate so that it neither looked as though they were hovering over you nor that they'd forgotten you. Excellent. Bar staff were just as good and made you feel as though you were the most important person in the world at that point. Exactly as it should be.

Downsides. The balconies to the rooms are closed off for safety reasons. The decor in the bedrooms (but not the public areas) is a bit dated - woodchip wallpaper, things like that. As mentioned, the bathrooms are seriously dated. The former access from the hotel to the pier is closed and looks to have been so for decades. And if you do come by car, parking is some distance away on public car parks for which the local council will charge you an arm and a leg during the daytime although (at the time of writing) it's free overnight.

Would I go back? Definitely. For three nights half board, travel from the northeast and a day tour of Snowdonia, the cost was £199 per person (£45 extra if you're travelling single.) That is amazing value, and it's a bit churlish to complain about dated bathrooms when you're getting this level of service in this location for that price.

A lovely last minute stay
Pros:

Me and my boyfriend having taken the reviews into account we stayed here Saturday night we have always wondered what it was like to stay here we had a room over looking the sea which was very beautiful even on a winters night and day I took some photos and videos on the balcony we had our food out at the local restaurants in Llandudno which were very nice the thing at night that was a little bit of a pain cause we were on the 4 floor at night it was very windy which caused the balcony floors to whistle which after a while it soon settled i can't really blame the hotel for that i totally understand this is an old building id love to come in the summer and catch the views then x

Convenient and comfortable stay
Pros:

I travelled with a coach tour and stayed here for 4 nights. The room I had was a twin with ample towels, tea and coffee tray supplied. The room was ok for me though decor quite plain with no pictures. We had a bath but no shelf in bathroom for toiletries. Food was good and a good choice of dishes.Chef was constantly topping up the breakfast items.Restaurant staff are all wonderful especially Jo and Andrew who were both so gracious.Nothing was too much trouble. Night reception staff and Paul the Asst Manager also wonderful in way their customer skills were shown. The hotel is an old hotel but it's Prime location and wonderful staff have shown me the wow factor in staying here again.

Youth hostel or Hotel???
Pros:

Location good, Atmosphere okay, Rooms well once I got up off the floor in shock 😮 and double checked I had checked into the hotel and not youth hostel. I can only describe it as a broom cupboard with a bed in. Bits of plastic on the floor , no light above the bed or anywhere to be seen, mould on curtains. Bathroom well need I say more. I did request to be moved from the hostel to the hotel I was finally upgraded. The staff in restaurant are lovely, food okay but the hotel once you past the ground floor I suggest you go not expecting a lot.
So I understand the Beetles and Winston Churchill stayed there. The Grand is not very Grand after all.

The worst turkey and tinsel I have ever been
Pros:

We arrived at the hotel on Monday 1st December. I was surprised how nice the downstairs looked on 1st arrival. We were checked in and told which lift to take with our own baggage. I am 77 my friend is 88. We had no help at all from the staff. We ended up on different floors. After we struggled I was shocked when I opened the door. The room was disgusting. So I went back downstairs to complain. I was given another room which wasn't much better. The food was cold. We had gone for the Turkey and tinsel package. Which we didn't get. Very very disappointed my friend has never been one b4 and was so excited to go. She couldn't believe how horrible everything was. They told us there was no housemaids so you had to make your own bed. No fresh towels daily plus we had to get our own tea coffee from reception. I can promise you one thing. THAT IS WE WILL NEVER STEP FOOT INTO YOUR HOTEL AGAIN. We will not recommend it to anyone.

You’ll be pleasantly surprised…
Pros:

The hotel is well placed to access everything in Llandudno. I have mobility issues and you do not have to climb any steps, it is all ramped and there are lifts.
We were a little sceptical having read some dreadful reviews but…
The hotel was very clean & lovely and warm.
The staff are, without exception, very cheerful, friendly and obliging. They all appear to work very hard.
As stated in other reviews, the dining is self service which I don’t have a problem with. All the food was hot and there was a varied menu. The Turkey meal was similar to that at a Toby Carvery…Michael & his team work very hard.
The dining room and the downstairs was decked out with Christmas decorations.
When we arrived, we found we had been upgraded to a Premium Seaview room with balcony.
We chose this hotel on our Caledonian Turkey & Tinsel week. I’m glad we did. It suited us very well.
Obviously in its heyday this hotel was magnificent but ignore the rubbish reviews. There were some people staying there who moaned about everything…obviously not enough to occupy themselves with!

Tribute weekend break.
Pros:

Room was spotlessly clean and warm. The hotel has had a lot of work done since I last stayed. Its looking much better since the upgrade began. My only negative was the bed was way to firm for me. Otherwise no complaints, well done on the upgrade so far. Keep up the good work.

Pros:

Had a problem with the first room because of health issues. The girl on reception could not do enough to sort another room for me even running up and down checking which room would be suitable for me.The room I was given had a wet room ,balcony and seaview. It was spotlessly clean.I would recommend this place to anyone.

A hotel best avoided.
Pros:

Good location close to town centre, beach and bus stops.
Atmosphere awful. Dining room was reminiscent of a school canteen. Too brightly lit no music for the dinner service and the meals were buffet style self service, even on the turkey and Tinsel night. The bar man kept bunking off and there was no lemon for my G&T.
The rooms are self service. No cleaning was done during our 4 night stay. We had to make our own beds, empty our own bin, clean the basin and our coffee cups. The bathroom fan didn't work so toilet smells lingered. We couldn't even open the window as it was locked for safety reasons because the balcony was unsafe. There was nowhere to hang towels up in the bathroom or the bedroom.
The food wasn't good. There were two choices of mains which weren't labelled so we had to guess what the 2 different shaped pieces of deep fried foods were on the first night. It did taste alright though. We did have a traditional Christmas dinner on night 2 but the other 3 nights were accompanied by tinned peas, tinned carrots, chips and pre-formed potato pieces done in the oven. I quite like tinned peas but tinned carrots.
Breakfast was adequate but the tinned mushrooms were tasteless and there were no pastries or cakes which you usually expect to find.
Service was limited. The bar man kept going awol, I asked for our bathroom to be cleaned one morning, the receptionist said she would add it to the list but it wasn't cleaned.
There was a lovely dining room with a view of the beautifully lit bay but it was closed off. The reason given was that a window had been smashed, was boarded up and so the room was too cold to use. Therefore we had to use the stark, windowless room with formica topped tables, no cloths or table decorations, even on the Turkey and Tinsel night.
Staff were friendly and informed me on the 2nd morning that we were having pork chops that night, however it turned out to be cottage pie!!!
We booked this hotel as part of a Caledonian Travel Turkey and Tinsel package which looked good value for money. However I would have preferred to pay more and have a half decent hotel.
Some other residents experienced a leaking roof on the 3rd floor and left. Another resident was given a voucher for a bottle of wine as she had had a leak into her room from the shower from the room above.
I would recommend that people AVOID this hotel.

A very pleasant surprise!
Pros:

Visited with a friend for a tribute weekend.
Hotel was beautiful and very clean. We had a sea view room with balcony giving amazing views. Room was a little tired but was clean with comfortable beds. Food was lovely, always hot and being topped up. Staff were all very helpful and friendly.
Nothing to complain about at all so will definitely stay again and have recommended it to friends.

Not dog friendly dont waste your money if you have a pet.
Pros:

Stayed here before in June and had a reasonable stay because we could bring our little dog with us which is why we booked again. This time however despite still being advertised as dog friendly it most definitely is not. On arrival at reception we were relieved of £50 instantly for our little dog before then being told that she was not allowed in either restaurant or the bar area ,something that we hadnt experienced in June otherwise we wouldnt have booked again. We were then told mealtimes were between 5 30 and 7 forcing each of us to eat alone whilst the other looked after the dog and then again in the morning at breakfast. This was not on the website and no mention of in extras when booking. The room was also dirty ,bedding stained ,filfthy windows and broken curtains . All in all not a good experience and wont be spending anymore money coming at this hotel.

Not pet friendly anymore
Pros:

Stayed at the grand a lot always been happy as they WAS !!!!dog friendly and they still advertise as a dog friendly hotel, but not I am sorry to say not anymore, on arrival at the hotel tonight 7-11-25 I was charged £40 for a 2 night stay for the dog, then told that dogs are now not allowed in the bar or lounges and not allowed now in the separate dining room that used to allow them ?? When I asked so where do I eat my meals I have paid for I was told leave the dog in your room !!!!!! So as I say if you are still under the impression the grand is still a pet friendly hotel, I can assure you it's not , I would advise to book somewhere else, like I will be doing from now on,

Unexpected positive experience
Pros:

We booked a room here last minute because the hotel we'd originally booked (Broadway) was filthy. So we needed somewhere budget friendly to stay. We literally turned up 5 mins after booking, and our room was ready. We got given a seaview double room, and we were pleasantly surprised! The room was very spacious with 2 big windows overlooking the bay. After reading some dull reviews, we weren't expecting this hotel to be up to much. Yes, the rooms are dated, and could totally do with modernisation, but for £73 we were well happy. The room was warm, bed comfy, it was clean, had a coffee pod machine, loads of tea and biscuits. The hotel staff are lovely, drinks reasonably priced, with nightly entertainment such as bingo or quiz and then some of the staff from the dining room get up to sing 😆. Now this was entertainment in itself, because they're not good, but bloody hell do they try their best and we were happy to sit there cosy, with a bottle of wine and watch them. It was quite busy too, and saved us walking around town in the rain looking for a place to go. Karaoke was on after, and I think it went on till about 12am. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, its changed our minds about this hotel, and we'll definitely be back for a bargain break!

Awful food
Pros:

Stayed here lots of times on coach trip. Hotel clean, room average but very tired. Staff are good! Have to say I was very disappointed with the food this time , always cold and tasteless, pretty awful really.. plus the hot plate where they keep plates is a health and safety hazard! Has a sign to say hot do not touch but the way it's situated is in my opinion a safety issue and needs a barrier of some sort around it . Wouldn't surprise me if anyone has been burnt . Please check it !!! Would i stay here again.....not sure 🤔
