Protea Hotel by Marriott Durban Umhlanga

The stay at the hotel was excellent very central of all restaurants and the mall. The only disappointment was they didn't offer lunch and dinner available at the hotel restaurant on Saturday. So we had to eat somewhere else. But overall a very nice Hotel.

The card door lock did not work on the first room I was given then moved to another room and this rooms card lock did not work as well. Maintenace came to attend to it, but it did not work for my entire stay and every time i wanted to enter the room i had to go down to reception and they had to accompany me to open the door.

Great hotel. Rooms were fantastic. Great location.

Nice and new. Only thing missing are usb ports at the nightstands.

Lovely, comfortable one night stay. Staff were very friendly and most accomodating. When they noticed my elderly mother with us, we were offered a more suitable room to accomodate her needs.

I cannot recommend this hotel enough. 1) amazing location 2) modern hotel, great decor and ambiance 3) spacious, well appointed rooms with all amenities 4) good housekeeping 5) great breakfast with staff who go above and beyond. Priced incredibly well for all the services and comfort on offer. Will definitely return

Really terrible stay

Another amazing stay at Protea! Walking distancr from the beach and many shops and restaurants. Very clean rooms!

Conviently located

Good location. Too much noise. No double glazed windows

My room was not ready for check in until 15 30
This was very dissapointing as I had a 1 and a half hour delay
When I enquired from the hotel reception as to what we could do while waiting - she was very non chalant about it

Friendly

We arrived early and were switched to a room with a kitchenette, which we considered to be a bonus. However, there was no dish soap or dish cloths to tidy up and use the dishes again. And no garbage appropriate for use in a kitchen. The room was fine and the beds were comfortable. The area is great and walkable to many shops and restaurants.

The staff at this place are phenomenal!! We had only booked this for one night, but ended up staying for 4 nights because we all took turns with the stomach flu. There is a pharmacy connected with the hotel, which was wonderful. Each morning when I would go down to extend for another night, they would ask how we were doing, give us water bottles and ask if there was anything extra they could do to help out. Across the street was a small grocery store that we could pick up things.. Uber Eats works there also, but you have to meet them outside the front door. The beds are very comfortable and nice size bathroom. It is about a 5 minute walk down to Umhlanga rocks and the lighthouse. There is a mall within walking distance and also several other restaurants besides what is in the mall. Parking is covered and secured. Breakfast has so many options and is so good. I would definitely stay at this place again if we go back.

The hotel is in a great location; Right from chevk in the service was exceptional, Pumula was amazing , service with a smile 😊; lots of restaurants around; across the street there is a pick n pay and various ATM machines, close to beach with walking/running trail. One suggestion would be to upgrade/ change the TV's, they are old the picture quality is bad.

Down the street there is a huge mall called Pearls of Umhlanga, it is beautiful with great shopping!!
I will definitely be back and will recommend this property!!

They only change the sheets and bedding every 2nd day. So if you get make up on your pillow, on the 1st night. Best believe, you gonna have to sleep on it again.

Shocked that i have to pay R55 per night for parking!
