We loved the history of the hotel and the fun decor. Everything else was as it should be clean, nice staff, comfortable etc
The restaurant food was fine but could have been better.
Interesting room decor
My room had very loud motor noise all night. I got maybe 2 hours sleep. Management said there was nothing they could do. The check out clerk said if we were to contact them later they could make a financial adjustment but back out of that. The food was fair at best, very slow service.
The room needs ventilation.
Comfortable bed.
Didn’t know they had another motel on property. Didn’t stay in main motel as advertised. Requested ground floor on reservation and they couldn’t provide. Had to lug luggage up cement flights of steps. No handicap ramp. Turned air on and the heat came on. Couldn’t leave a light on in the bathroom as it automatically turns off in a few minutes.
Fabulous themed hotel with such a lot of history
Staff were amazing
Room a bit small but didn’t distract from our stay
The room windows faced west so the room was hot when we checked in. We turned on the AC and went to dinner. The room was even hotter when we got back and hot air was blowing out of the vents. Turns out the system only puts out heat in the winter and cold in the summer regardless of the selection on the thermostat. When we called to complain about the room being 86 they told us that we were told about this when checking in. We were not. There were no windows that could be opened. We did not want to leave the door open because it was a busy, loud intersection and a skunk had just been run over. They finally moved us to aa different room. The sheets were so rough that it was hard to sleep.
A visit to the Golden Era of Hollywood and the Wild West! It was just awesome seeing the hidden room ! We enjoyed 2 meals at he restaurant both excellent!
Staying at the Hotel El Rancho was like taking a step back in time, to a time when things were a little slower, people were a little kinder, and staying in a hotel felt like a special event. This hotel is a gem. The room we stayed in, in the main hotel, was small but comfortable. The bathroom was tiny -- but reflected the time the hotel was built. There were little design touches in the room that made us chuckle -- the cowboy hat and rope on the wall ! Everything was super clean. The restaurant was also great, with a wonderful breakfast and dinner menu. Prices were good and chile was authentic New Mexican chile (type and preparation! -- if you know, you know....) The final hidden gem in the hotel was its gift shop. We usually avoid them since they usually tend to have cheesy souvenirs at high prices. HOWEVER, this one had a great selection of authentic crafts from the area. We had done our homework, visiting numerous trading posts in Gallup, and found the pottery to be an exceptional find there in the hotel gift shop. The other hidden gem was Veronica, in the shop. She knew her crafts and was able to tell us a lot about the local crafts and what to look for. She was so personable and really represented the hotel well! All in all, we would definitely plan to stay again. The Hotel El Rancho is really an experience and an opportunity to slow down a bit and enjoy Gallup and the wonderful people there!
For being on a busy street it was quiet at night. Close to town but not walkable. Close to some nice day hiking areas
It was as expected.
Very kitschy original and historic landmark that maintains the original charm but the rooms have really updated lovely decor that still fits the vibe, great beds, and good shower— nice lay out and comfortable after a very long road trip!
This was the most splendid stopover on a drive to the Grand Canyon!
For the same price as most other regular hotels, this offered the splendid quirkiness- of a bygone era. The 'motel' rooms had been renovated with the '66' theme.- Everything clean and attentive staff!
Could hear the guests next door more than should be expected.
I liked the gift shop items and the location of the Hotel.
I did not like that staff were so unwelcoming, I had to ask questions as a prompt for them to talk to me. As a Navajo person I felt discriminated against. The first room we were given had bed bugs crawling in the pillows. Staff changed the room for us but did not offer any incentives for our trouble. She did not ask any questions about what we found even when I mentioned to her I have documentation of the bugs (pictures & videos). The gift shop lady was also not helpful, felt like she was watching us shop, but her interactions with others of the same color as her (YT) were treated with kindness. She never spoke to us or asked us if we needed help. My family and I were excited about our stay here and the staff treatment towards us as Navajo/ Native Americans from the surrounding area was unfortunate. I will not be recommending this hotel to my family and friends.
Fantastic stay! Route 66 Road Trip. Lots of memorabilia.
All was good.
Historic pics.. & how they have kept it like it originaly was👍Being able to enjoy the what the property had to offer. Dining was excellent.. very good.Friendlyness of all the staff👍
Room was nicely decorated but hard to move around in .. Bathroom shower was ok but the size .. between the toilet & sink was very difficult to manuver r…. Poss would work better if the toilet had a seat👍
Really loved staying here. The hotel has a lot of Western Film history where the movie stars would stay here during filming. The lobby is filled with overstuffed chairs and couches for relaxing. Our room and bathroom have been updated and each room which have different floor plans. The hotel has an annex, which looks like your standard motel look. When I booked on TripAdvisor, I assumed that we would be staying in the main hotel, but was surprised when the front desk assigned us to the annex, which I declined. The front desk accommodated us, but charged a $10 fee. I’m thinking that since we booked through a 3rd party, they charge the extra $10…hmmm. We ate in the hotel restaurant which was delightful. Be aware that our room did not have a refrigerator or microwave. You can call the front desk for a hairdryer, if necessary. The coffeemaker is the slide in tray type (ugh). All in all, a great stay!
Facility was nice and room was well maintained.
The bad review was not about the hotel but about two cops standing outside my bedroom door talking very loudly.at 3 to 4 am. They were there to assist EMT as the person across the hall was having some issue. My complaint is that they weren't actually doing anything to assist just talking loudly. When I ask if they could keep it down one cop told me to shut up and to close my door. A little courtesy would have been nice. Maybe they need some training in civility.
Classic and iconic hotel. I love this place.
