Location and great staff. The food was also excellent although the order of duck before the fish option wasn’t good as the duck - beautifully cooked - was too strong.
Did get much sleep as the bedroom was far too hot and no way to regulate the heating in the rooms. I contacted reception to see if they could turn it down or off but it remained hot until early morning. The windows only open a couple of inches - I’m sure for safety- but it meant that we couldn’t get enough air in to cool the room. In contrast we were too cold in the dining room. The double bed was too small - it would have been better to have just one bigger bed than a small double and a single. The bedside lamps were too big for the bedside tables leaving little room for anything else. Overall the room was too small.
Gorgeous view! Clean.
Service in the restaurant was very slow. Appeared to be understaffed. Dinner was good, but it took 45 minutes to arrive.
Family member had to change rooms due to a curtain missing one a window. Surely, that was noticed ahead of time by the staff.
Beautiful views and fab pull-ups food
Limited parking due to wedding and had to park across the road on estate road.
The staff were very welcoming. Parking facilities were good. The food was excellant
Our room was not very large.
It’s a lovely Hotel in a fabulous location. Food from breakfast to dinner is very good
The room was very hot and we were unable to open the window. I stayed in a much nicer room on other occasions so the room this time was as big disappointing
We stayed here for our 5th wedding anniversary and WOW—what a beautiful hotel. We booked a luxurious suite for our stay, and it exceeded all expectations. From the floor-to-ceiling windows, we had an incredible view of the Atlantic Ocean, with a deep bathtub positioned right by the window. There was even a seaweed bath soak provided, making it the perfect place to relax while watching the waves crash. It was absolutely breathtaking. And for privacy, the remote-controlled blinds made it easy to close everything before getting in and open them again once you were settled—such a thoughtful touch.
When we arrived in our room, we were welcomed with a lovely dessert and a card. Before we had even unpacked, there was a knock on the door with a voucher for two complimentary cocktails. About half an hour before dinner, another surprise arrived—two small bottles of cream liqueur and chocolates. The room itself was incredible: an electric fire, a king-size bed, a spacious bath, snacks like crisps and chocolate, lemonade in the fridge, a coffee machine, kettle, a cozy reading nook with a rocking chair and books, plus a couch and armchair. Pure luxury.
What really stood out, however, was the hotel’s commitment to sustainability. There were no single-use plastic water bottles—instead, each room had a sealed glass jug, with filtered water stations available on every floor. The hallways also featured lovely reading nooks with books for guests to enjoy. The staff were exceptional—friendly, attentive, and always happy to help.
We had dinner in Aileens Restaurant, where you can once again enjoy views of the ocean. The food was beautiful, and the service was outstanding. Breakfast the next morning, also in Aileens Restaurant, was just as enjoyable, with delicious food and very welcoming staff. To top it all off, we were gifted a loaf of freshly baked bread upon checkout.
This hotel truly exceeded our expectations in every way. It was an amazing experience, and one we will definitely be repeating very soon.
Had a lovely 2 night midweek stay in Armada. I had stayed there previously some years ago when hotel was quite dated. The new owner John has done an amazing job on renovations and now bedrooms, restaurants and bar etc are definetly 4 star standard. The staff are some of the friendliest I have come across in hospitality industry and that applies to every staff member I met. We really enjoyed the extra activities provided...wine tasting, cookery demo and history talk in the Armada House . On checking out we were given a gift of their lovely brown bread which was such a nice gesture. I will definetly be back.
Relaxing in pure luxury for our stay
That we couldn't stay longer
The sea, sauna, food, service, cocktails - all fantastic. It was my sister’s birthday and they left dessert, balloons and a card in the room.
Rooms are a little small, but adequate.
Food in the bar, bar staff and the music was very good. Very busy to be honest but there was a wedding and rudby was on
Room was a little basic and breakfast was a little disapointing and a little cold.
It was our return stay at the hotel, this time celebrating the 45th wedding anniversary of my godparents. We were absolutely spoiled in the restaurant and were given the best table, with an amazing view that made the evening even more memorable. The food was outstanding, and a lovely, smiling waitress with blonde hair made the whole experience extra special with her warm and attentive service.
The location of the hotel is simply stunning, and breakfast the next morning was beautiful with a great selection to enjoy.
We stayed in both a family room and a double room — the family room was fantastic, spacious and very comfortable. The only downside was that the double room felt quite small. Next time, we will be sure to upgrade to a sea view room, as we had one on a previous visit and it was absolutely spectacular.
We had a really lovely stay at the Armada, which is set in one of the most beautiful coastal locations you could hope for. Here’s a quick breakdown of our experience:
⭐ Pros
Beautiful location – the views are truly outstanding.
Excellent food – we enjoyed every meal.
Some really lovely staff members who made our stay feel welcoming.
Strong focus on sustainability – the continued investment in modernising the hotel, partnering with Irish suppliers, and reducing environmental impact is clearly visible and very impressive.
Johney Burke’s Bar – full of charm and authenticity.
Great breakfast – very enjoyable overall; some meats and cheeses on the buffet would have been a nice addition.
⚠️ Cons
Hotel feels very wedding‑focused – understandable as weddings seem to be a big part of their business, but it did leave me as a regular guest feeling a little overlooked at times.
No comfortable lounge with sea views – not all rooms have sea views and there isn’t a dedicated guest area to sit, relax, and enjoy the scenery. Most of the main spaces are geared towards events or the higher‑end restaurant. “The Pearl” can be used when free, but it doesn’t feel like a cosy lounge space.
Restaurant bookings are hard to get – you need to reserve well in advance to secure a suitable time.
Bar can be loud and busy in the evenings – great if you like a lively atmosphere, but less ideal if you prefer something more relaxed. A designated lounge would make a big difference for guests seeking quieter spaces.
Personally we were disappointed with our experience the hotel is sold to you from the website very wrong unless you book a very expensive sea view room once u enter u can't experience the view at all . The room had no way of adjusting heat or air conditioning if needed as a couple we were put in a triple room with a tiny double bed and two singles. I ordered the monkfish for dinner that evening that was luke warm and also the mashed potato the same. For a 4 star hotel definitely I can say I was disappointed.
Myself and my 7 year old stayed here recently for 2 nights, the room was super clean and the most comfortable bed ever, when we went for dinner there was milk and a cookie and some chocolate left in the room, such a lovely gesture, the staff are the nicest I have had the pleasure to come across, such a beautiful location, the staff make this place amazing.
The bar food probably for me was not the best, hate even saying this as the hotel is so so good.
Great location on the seafront and the staff were lovely from when you walked into reception! Gerry in the bar made our night on Friday with great Guinness and food snack recommendations, and the lovely manager in the bar that served us dinner on Saturday was charming and excellent host.
Nothing really.
The only constructive comments I could give is there was alot of furniture and large lamps in the room making it feel a little clustered.
And personally I'm not a fan of bed throws and additional cushions.. I never feel comfortable about when they were last cleaned!
Located neatly by the ocean and cliffs, it is a relaxing sight to watch the ocean do its thing from the comfort of your hotel room or the main floor Aileen's (Aliens?) restaurant. Vibe is grounded but still high-end. Tidy and newish facilities and amenities. Room had a real smart TV, no noise problems. Tiny liquor bottle and piece of chocolate was waiting at the table. The bed could've been bigger (cozy room.) Absolutely fantastic reception service, good humor, attentive! Parking was easy & free. Great value, highly recommended ! Will definetely return at some point.
