Unfortunately we haven't been to this hotel as yet because we can't get intouch with this hotel the phone number you ring is all Spanish and the messages you send and emails do not get a reply what sort of hotel is this
I stayed at the SBH Fuerteventura Playa Hotel, and I can honestly say this place should never have been open in the state it was in. The conditions were completely unacceptable — dirty, run-down, unsafe, and nothing like what was advertised.
Facilities were broken or closed, food was poor and repetitive, and the overall cleanliness was shocking. The hotel felt neglected and unsanitary, with areas that were clearly not being maintained properly.
What’s worse is that guests were expected to just accept it — but no one should have to pay to stay somewhere in this condition. It was stressful, upsetting, and a huge disappointment.
If you’re thinking about booking here, don’t. This hotel needs major repairs and proper management before it should ever be taking guests again. And now it’s closed…?!!! No accountability whatsoever from this hotel!!!
An NO this is definitely NOT exaggerated!!!!!
Hotel clean nice setting friendly staff only bad point is with all inclusive are repetative meals fish every night weak drinks beds like sleeping on concrete no coffee facilities in rooms no entertainement for adults
We arrived at the hotel, kitchen was closed and we had to walk to another hotel to get their buffet. We come back, get our room keys and our room smells HORRIBLE, mosquitoes everywhere at night. The beach is filled with only rocks, u cant even go for a swim because the rocks are everywhere, so we had to drive to other locations and find other beach spots so we can tan. the room cleaners are nice, but what isn't nice is the amount of hair they leave in the bed after they tuck in the sheets, also they don't even do much cleaning just folding bath towels. First holiday I've ever went on and I don't think I'll ever want to travel again.
trust me. never book here and DEFINITELY DO NOT buy the all exclusive thing because its not worth it. Also i have to mention that the 2 rooms we had, both balcony's were facing into a wall and the other hotel next to us, NOT EVEN THE POOL!!!
such a scam its unbelievable, theres no way its rated 3 stars
Rooms very nice food in main restaurant ok but never any tea bags ne drink machine work at 1 time just one I dontbusually moan but the pool area is dirty and not cleaned any dsy I been hear staff are nice eork hard but there is no love for this hotel needs to be maintained then eill be nice as its a loverly place I won't come back
this was an experience to remember but it got me thinking. the hotel was lovely, the staff were accommodative and kind and the room we stayed in was great, but for some reason we heard loads of different people complaining. about that the gas wasn’t working so they had to walk to the other hotel to get dinner and about the drinks ect. the food was spectacular and the walk to the other hotel wasn’t something we could complain about as it was beautiful. the drinks were good with a nice selection of cocktails and beverages. me and my partner are 18 and 19, and we didn’t quite understand how this experience made some other guests upset. the country was beautiful and such an amazing memory to have.
to the guests who didn’t quite enjoy the experience quite like we did i would love to know how is was bad? out of general curiosity.
thank you to all the kind staff and i apologise on behalf of all of the other guests who i saw scream and complain to you on the daily.
WARNING!!!! This hotel no longer has its restaurant open as it was closed for health and safety issues 9/9/25 Some people were initially moved to other SBH hotels but this is no longer possible. There is NO FOOD whatsoever at Playa. Hotel is also suffering from insect infestation and everyone is being bitten to pieces - we slept outside on the balcony as it was so bad! Hotel has now been removed from Love Holidays website but they are still flying people out despite the problems. Whatever this hotel has been like in the past, you will now have a holiday from hell here now so please, please contact your travel agent and go elsewhere.... check Facebook posts for more into
We arrived Tuesday 9th September 2025 where they took our passports and told us to go for lunch as we couldn’t check in until 3. We came back at 3 and they gave us our room keys to which we then asked about passports they just looked at us confused and said we now had to wait. So we sat there for 10 more minutes to wait for our passports as they just weren’t handing them back over. We finally got them after just sitting around and headed to our rooms.
We had some lunch and our dinner in the hotel which was pretty poor. The staff in the restaurant were accommodating, putting tables together for our group of 10. We then revived letters saying the kitchen had been closed due to a gas leak and we had been asked to walk to another hotel for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We asked the sister hotel if we were able to stay and use the facilities rather than walk back and forth and they said we needed wrist bands from our hotel, so we went back to our hotel, they told us we didn’t. We have now spent every day at the SBH Costa Calma hotel rather than our own. The main problem is that is seems our entire hotel has also been sent to SBH Costa Calma so the queues for food, drinks, etc. are absolutely insane. The restaurant feels more like a flee market. It is a battle to get food every day.
Our room was okay but extremely dated, the room itself is large and right on the beach however the walk to and from our room is extremely long which doesn’t bother us but may be an issue for someone else. Our aircon is also absolutely shocking. It just blows our air, doesn’t even cool it. We come back to our room every evening and find ourselves struggling to sleep due to the heat. We can’t even have the balcony door open as we are on ground floor.
We had also been speaking to other people we’ve met in the hotel who have also been saying the same thing. They have created a resolution for us but it’s just a joke to expect paying guests to just be happy to spend their time walking back and forth between hotels.
Not only have we been told to go to other hotels but we also received aggravation from the “bar manager” at SBH Costa Calma. We have been eating and drinking and using the pool facilities nearly the entire week we have been here and just today he came and basically told us off for drinking at that hotel. We had previously spoken to SBH Fuertaventura reception and they told us we were welcome to eat drink and use the facilities at the Costa Calma hotel and that we didn’t need other wrist bands. We have now been met with confrontation from staff. We’ve been told one thing by one and another by others. But we continue to get served at the SBH Costa Calma hotel. There is lack of communication and now we are put into an awkward predicament as we do not know where we stand.
We also found out that apparently SBH Fuertaventura Playa is going to be shut down. I hope you are unable to book so people don’t have to deal with what we have been going through this week.
Arrived 11/9 got told kitchen closed due to gas leak. Had to go to other hotels for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Found out next day, kitchen had be closed by health and safety plus hotel closing down for full refurbishment. Only then was informed people with disabilities were entitled to taxi compensation with a receipt. Tbh, if had been told then wouldn't of booked here. All inclusive meaning it's all at other hotels, definitely not what I paid for.
Here at the moment, kitchen has been closed, they say it due to a gas problem, but heard its health and safety that has closed it, we have to go over the there sister hotel Costa Calma beach, for meal, there is no snack bar here just a drink bar, one member of staff on reception is very rude, waited over 4 hrs for our room on arrival,
Room ok, could do with updating but it is clean, I can’t knock the cleaners up to now.
HSB have temporary stopped selling holidays to this hotel, so have no idea while Love holidays still selling holiday to the hotel.
Worst Hotel We have ever been to...
Pool was filthy, surrounding tiles cracked, cleanliness rating zero.. customer service zero, stand in line for drinks for ages, then 25% spirits...
We are currently suing Love Holidays as our experience was so bad.
Moved to Monica Beach after 6 days (earliest we could get)
Please don't waste your money and time here.
THIS IS A ZERO STAR HOTEL
A hotel without food (As the kitchen has ben condemend), no coffee until 11am
Reception staff getting hammered (I dofeel for them) but radio silence.
Broken furniture in the room, no towels in the bathroom, Staff that have utterly given up (Again i do feel for them)
This place is shocking. Do not bring children here as there are hazards everywhere.
I've never expereienced anything like it and I put up with most sh*t holes
Hotel is not like a 4 stars, picture doesn’t shows the real state of the building and rooms. This is the first time in my life when I’m writing comments on something, but I’m so disappointed so I have to. Enterteinment are very poor, boring and no fun. Food was good, but during our stay, they send as a letter that they gonna have gas check ,till the end of our stay, and that we need to walk to other hotel for eating. Everything would be good if they would inform us about different times of breakfast, lunch and dinner! We came there and there was no food for us. Of course I talked about this situation in the reception, the guy said „sorry, and that he don’t know what he can say”. I didn’t wanted any explanation from him, I just wanted to inform him ,this situation is ridiculous and they should inform us in the letter about different times in the second hotel. So we and many other people who were on the all inclusive been hungry. No snack’s available anywhere.
I feel very disappointed
We booked SBH Fuerteventura Playa expecting a relaxing holiday, but unfortunately, it fell far short of what was advertised.
Firstly, the hotel does not have a gym, despite it being listed as a facility when we booked. Instead, we were told we had to pay €30 per person for bands to use the sister hotels, and even then, the only usable gym was at SBH Monica. The hotel photos used online are misleading too — they show a bright, colourful hotel from before SBH took over, not the dated orange building we actually stayed in.
The grounds and facilities lacked any atmosphere — devoid of greenery or plant life — and the general upkeep was poor. There were cockroaches in our room, broken and sharp tiles, and an old wooden bridge in disrepair. Sun loungers were uncomfortable and hard to come by, while queues at the bar were constantly 5+ people deep. Food was another disappointment: repetitive, poor quality, and not kept hot. Even getting drinks was difficult — bars regularly ran out of glasses or weren’t open, and instead of water fountains, there were only small dispensers. Guests were not allowed to refill bottles, meaning the only way to get water in quantity was to go back to the room.
Service was inconsistent. The reception staff spoke very little English, which made basic communication difficult. We booked a thematic restaurant dinner, only to arrive and be told our reservation hadn’t been confirmed, despite having tickets issued two days earlier. Our room wasn’t cleaned on Sunday with no explanation.
The most serious issue came on the 9th, when we received a letter (incorrectly addressed to someone else) telling us that due to a failed gas inspection, we could no longer eat at Playa. Guests were told to go to other hotels to dine, but there was no consideration for disabled guests — one of the alternatives was up a steep hill, which was impossible for me with a knee injury. Fortunately, we had already paid extra for access to Costa Calma Beach Resort, otherwise, we would have been stuck without a workable option.
Finally, the attitude of SBH management speaks volumes: instead of addressing guest concerns in reviews, they often argue back. This says everything you need to know about their approach to customer service.
Overall, SBH Fuerteventura Playa was misleadingly advertised, poorly maintained, and frustrating from start to finish.
Unreal experience staying at the SBH Fuerteventura Playa..
Met some of the most friendliest, down to earth people in my life here. The staff are absolutely great, although they are understaffed they do an excellent job at keeping the place running!
I can understand it may not be for everyone but I found this holiday to be extremely refreshing, relaxing and an all around delightful experience..
The location is ideal if youre looking for a chilled, laid back holiday, local markets are within a 2 minute walk and are reasonably priced if you know how to barter. 10 minute walk from the hotel is a lovely shopping centre and many amazing restaurants (Mamma Mia & Asian Garden).
Thankyou for the wonderful experience! I will be back...
First and Last Stay – BEDBUGS!!!
Please Be Aware!
I’ve never written a review before, but I feel compelled to share our experience at SBH Fuerteventura Playa so others don’t go through what we did.
From the moment we arrived, things went downhill fast. We had to change rooms due to bedbugs, and were left without a room for half a day. The replacement room smelled strongly of urine and damp, and we couldn’t sleep there—ended up staying in our friends’ room just to get through the night.
The balcony door didn’t lock, which made us feel unsafe. The corridors were lined with spare beds, presumably due to the bedbug issue, and the general cleanliness was shocking: dirty toilets, mould, unclean corridors, and our room was barely cleaned. The swimming pool had green edges, and plates and glasses were stained. One day, we even had no hot water for showers.
Food and drink were equally disappointing. There was no snack bar, and the dessert selection consisted of just two tasteless options. The cocktails had no flavor, and the dining experience felt neglected and poorly managed.
To make matters worse, the photos on the website are completely misleading. I’m not a fussy person and genuinely thought the hotel wouldn’t be that bad—but it was a thousand times worse. This was the first time we were actually happy to finish a holiday. We even paid for a private taxi just to get to the airport faster.
This hotel is in desperate need of refurbishment, proper sanitation, and basic maintenance. I wish I had known all this before booking. Please be aware before considering a stay here.
Myself and my family returned home today from a week away here.
I want to start off by saying most of these reviews are witch hunting opinions. The week before we left I was in tears over this holiday. After spending time looking at the reviews I was consumed with fright and regret over booking this hotel.
It is what you pay for. People expect so much for so little. When you book holiday packages people think the over all price is too much for this hotel. But for a family of 4 for 7 nights, when broken down the hotel alone only cost us €35 pp each day. What do you expect.
We had a family room, and was pleasantly surprised.
Yes the whole place needs to be renovated and updated, yes the food is questionable but all fresh salads are available and hot chips, pizza and bread each meal time.
They are understaffed so some staff can seem unapproachable because they constantly have people going at them.
Entertainment staff were brilliant and very interactive with all guests, and I’ve never seen bar staff work harder than 1 or 2 serving over 200 guests consistently.
There were negatives too, to name a few.. in 7 days we had our room cleaned once. But do you strip your bed daily at home? It did take a while to check in.. we had an extra 2 hour wait for our room but we did get our bands and we’re welcomed to the facility’s. Again food is not great. But my children were happy with chips and pizza and pasta. And for €35 a day, the amount of soft drinks, ice creams and chocolate milkshakes they had, let alone the plates we had and alcohol we enjoyed for the price.
A lot of people had spread around that if they complain they will get refunds, one even went around demanding everyone at the bar to leave a bad review.
They don’t have security which they need.
Overall, although I would not recommend this place to family or friends, the hotel wouldn’t be the only reason, I found the town not the best if you are used to busy holiday strips of restaurants and bars. But it does not deserve the absolute over reached negative reviews some have left.
If your budget is one that is a reasonable price, and not overall… take away flight prices then this place will do provide you that. If you wish to have anything more then pay more for somewhere else.
Don’t be like me and cry and worry, take it for yourself and don’t expect the Maldives for €35 a day.
This is possibly the worst hotel you can go to I wanted to go away before my baby was born it was advertised as a
4 star hotel and I would say it’s 2 star at the most the food was disgusting the staff was rude who work at pool bar shouted at my partner because he asked when the pool bar would be opening the room was okay but the phone didn’t work the air conditioning and the fan and my plug was stuck in my bath so I couldn’t have a bath so I complained and I was sent two a room with only a shower in it that staff use their was lots of dirty towels in it and the toilet was filled with poo I was uncomfortable where I was pregnant and needed a bath to relax I found it hard to have a shower I asked for extra pillows because of my pregnancy when I arrived I had to asked reception five times they put me on their waiting list three times but I still had to asked reception multiple of times before I got the pillows the hotel it’s self was dirty the pool wasn’t clean and had algae foaming someone cut their foot in the swimming pool on the drain their was cockroaches around the hotel and near kitchen the restaurant the inclusive was crap they water down the drinks and rush the drinks and taste to strong the all inclusive finish at 23:00 so if you want to get drunk in the evening your have to pay after 23:00 they were lots of offer people complaining they didn’t have hot water people came out in the towels I was complaining to the manager then and the response I got was rude and I was told she know her hotel and asked me to come to her office so others could not hear what I was complaining about and she gave me and my partner inclusive band to go to other hotel she was very rude and aggressive talking this didn’t solve my issues with the bath or my fan or the air conditioning or the phone not working or my bad experience this just ment we could get better food form different hotels I would never recommend this hotel
