Groupon voucher users treated like second-class customers
Pros:

I recently contacted this hotel regarding a group booking for a birthday celebration. I explained the date we wanted and was told it could be accommodated. I also made it clear that we were working with a tight budget and asked whether it would be acceptable for our group of around 20 guests to use Groupon vouchers.

The events coordinator, Sonia, seemed somewhat reluctant but eventually said it would be possible. However, she stated that the booking could not be confirmed until I provided the voucher codes, which I understood. I told her I would call back the following day once I had purchased them.

Based on that conversation, I went ahead and bought several hundred pounds worth of Groupon vouchers for the group. Unfortunately, when I called back just 24 hours later, I was told they had taken another booking for that date and could no longer accommodate us unless I paid an additional £170 for private room hire.

When I asked why our booking hadn’t at least been pencilled in, I was told this wasn’t possible because we were using Groupon vouchers. The tone of the conversation made me feel as though voucher users were treated as second-class customers. There was also no willingness to negotiate on the room hire charge because we were using Groupon, and the only alternative offered was a different date, which unfortunately didn’t work for our event.

If the hotel does not want customers using Groupon vouchers, it would be far better for them not to promote them in the first place, or simply be upfront and say they cannot accommodate large voucher bookings. That would have saved a lot of time, money, and frustration.

Thankfully, I have now found an alternative venue for the same date who have been extremely accommodating and even offered a complimentary private room, which highlights how different the experience can be elsewhere.

If you are planning to use Groupon vouchers and expect reasonable service, I would suggest looking elsewhere.

Pros:

All relatively fine. Nice setting. Ideal location for our need. Good parking. Breakfast was fine as I ordered poached eggs, slightly overcooked but OK.

Cons:

On arrival, check in was fine and easy. We were given key to the room, so all seemed fine. Sadly not. The Receptionist had forgotten to give us a card to insert by the door to operate the lights.

Being woken up by another guest in a room below us at 11-30 at night no sure if the staff member told them when I'd asked them to be less loud but the noise continued

A clean and comfortable room but not quiet
Pros:

Lovely property in beautiful area

Cons:

Rooms very noisy with little soundproofing. Sounded like I was sleeping next to a washing machine. Also erroneous fire alarm before 7am on Sunday morning and staff were not letting guests know that it was a false alarm. Other guests had to do that.

Excellent location, good value for few days visit
Pros:

Location fab. Bar lovely. Didn't eat there so couldn't pass comment. Grounds beautiful. Room spacious.

Cons:

Bathroom a bit in need of touch up. Room was right by generator so started up about 7 each morning.
An extra blanket in the room possibly.
