Sofitel Xian on Renmin Square

Pros:
- rooms are spacious and comfortable
- we had 2 adjoining rooms, and it comes with a washing machine which was very useful
- breakfast buffet was excellent
- staff are professional, friendly and helpful.
- Big thanks to Sophia Liu on the front desk who spoke great English and was very kind and helpful, she provided excellent service.
- location is fine, about 25 mins walk to Muslim quarter

Cons:
- hotel is a little dated

We had a lovely stay at Sofitel Xi’an! From the moment we arrived, all the staff were so friendly, helpful, and welcoming, which made us feel very comfortable.

The breakfast buffet was amazing, with so many delicious choices every morning. A special thank you to the breakfast team — they were incredibly kind and attentive to my baby’s needs, especially helping us with warm water. That small but thoughtful gesture really meant a lot to us.

Overall, the service was excellent and full of genuine care. We truly enjoyed our stay and would happily return again!

Nice setting and within walking distance of the city wall and other tourist areas and markets. Quiet area of the main road.

Sofitel on Renmin Square in Xi’an is a refined hotel with very impressive common areas. The lobby, lounges, and shared spaces all reflect a classic, elegant style that creates a luxurious first impression. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the staff maintain high service standards.

Breakfast is excellent, offering a wide variety of freshly prepared dishes and a good balance between Chinese and international cuisine. It’s definitely one of the hotel’s strengths.

The rooms are generously sized, providing plenty of comfort and space. However, they are starting to show signs of age and would benefit from renovation to match the elegance of the public areas. Although everything is functional and clean, the décor and some furnishings feel outdated.

Hotel is in a very pleasant and clean area which is only about 10 minute walk away from Wulukou train station.

The most basic room is spacious enough for a couple staying 4 nights. Room was fresh without any trace of smoking smell.

Room was cleaned very thoroughly daily. Even though we encountered a couple of room defects, they got fixed in a timely manner.

We had breakfast once and it was pretty good.

All the staff we encountered were helpful.

We had a fantastic stay here! The room was clean, spacious, and very comfortable. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The location is perfect, close to downtown . We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to others.

This Sofitel was a huge disappointment! There is no heat, I froze! The hotel has no heat in October. I could not get assistance and was told I would need to switch rooms-late at night! Coming to my room the lights would not turn on, again I had to wait for assistance. The facility is old and hasn't been properly maintained. The hot water is not hot! Forget having a hot bath.

Would not hesitate to stay here again!!

A fantastically friendly hotel, professional and courteous,. Rooms and all areas were well kept and the location a gentle walk to key areas from the city - there’s always DiDi if you don’t want to walk. Can’t imagine wanting to stay anywhere else

I liked the location. Short walk to restaurants and across the street is the river.

Beautiful hotel, lovely spacious suite in Executive floor . Unfortunately could not really utilise the lounge, as we were not back to the hotel at the right times. Meals and service good in 2 restaurants. Incredibly comprehensive breakfast. The only negative is that the bed was extremely uncomfortable.

Pillows were very soft and hard to sleep on

Mattress was quite firm

TV only had a couple of english stations so you couldn’t pick a movie and had to watch what was shown

Even though we had a great view, windows were not cleaned the week we where there so waa hard to look outside (photo attached)

We recently stayed at the Sofitel Xi’an and had a truly wonderful experience. From the moment we arrived, the warm welcome set the tone for our visit, with special thanks to Andy and Leo at the front desk who went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Andy Song, in particular, is a real asset to the hotel – professional, friendly, and always ready to help with a genuine smile. In our 30 years of travelling the world and seeking advice from various concierges, we have never received as much support and guidance as we did from him. His care, enthusiasm, and attention to detail were inspiring, and his willingness to assist with every request made us feel truly valued as guests. Thank you, Andy!

Location is excellent. Its a 8 min walk from Wulukou station and shopping centre. Bell and Drum tower 30 min walk. The staff were excellent, I really enjoyed talking with the Andy, he was very helpful and could always suggest where to go and how to find things. I arrived earlier than the check-in time but staff had no problem finding me a room that was ready. I didnt buy food from the hotel as the Fresh Hippo, next to Wulukou station sold good quality fresh food and it was very cheap. I was in a room overlooking a balcony (which no-one had access too). The balcony was dirty, cracked, covered in moss and it had a large over-hang which meant limited natural light got into the room so it was always dark.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights, it took around 40 minutes to get to the hotel from Xi'An Bei railway station by taxi at a cost of around £5-8 depending on the type of car. The hotel is around a 30 minute walk from the bell tower so it is in a good location. The room was good we had the Junior Suite it had a comfortable bed with loads of space and a good bathroom. With the room we had Club Sofitel access which gave us access to some drinks during opening hours, afternoon tea between 3pm-5pm and happy hour (better drinks selection and dinner buffet) between 5.30pm-7.30pm which was great. Breakfast had a good selection of Chinese and more western cuisine. This hotel is a great option for your trip to Xi'An.
