I cannot praise Hotel Roma enough! The location, as everyone mentioned, is just perfect! Right in the middle of all of the action! There are so many great restaurants, including Atipico, just across the street. The people at the front desk were very accommodating, from giving directions to calling us cabs. I got sick one day and requested a coke, but they also sent a cup of hot water with lemon in it. Pietro was especially helpful. The towels were big and absorbent, the pillows were great, and beds were comfortable. The breakfast was varied and good and I miss my cappuccino!
The hotel has fantastic location, in the middle of the old town, basically round the corner from Piazza Maggiore. It is an ideal location from where to set off and visit the town.
As can be expected from an old hotel in town comprised of connected buildings, rooms vary in size and exposure. I had booked a suite, which, unfortunately turned out to be much under expectations. Bedroom, sitting area and bathroom were in a long thin row, with no windows whatsoever on the bedroom side. May be just as well, as the window of the sitting area looked over machinery and rubbish stuck between 2 buildings.
Heating didn't work in the room no matter what combinations of keys I pressed on the remote. I heard some other people complaining about this at reception; they were told to use the blankets in the cupboard (which I had thankfully found). My guess is that the heating wasn't switched on yet as the units on the wall showed no sign of life.
My bathroom had no hot water to speak of. It was impossible to take a shower. I asked to change rooms, but since they didn't have any of the same type of room available, I accepted a downgrade (after checking there was hot water). I was asked to sign a paper saying I accepted the downgrade - meaning no refund would be forthcoming. I just wanted to get on and have nice few days in Bologna (which I did), but this attitude is borderline dishonest.
Breakfast was fine - nothing exceptional, but decent enough.
Various reasons.
It is very central. Right in the heart of Bologna by Piazza Maggiore. Maybe a 2 minute walk. Possibly one!
Very helpful staff on reception. Booked evening meals for us at good restaurants when we were struggling to find anywhere. Booked taxis. One, to the airport, arrived within a couple of minutes. Spoke excellent English.
Breakfast was fine. A good selection of things.
The room was good. Maybe short of a hangar or two. Compact bathroom but had everything we could want and also was tidied every day.
I don’t know what else you could want from a hotel.
The staff is helpful. The room was small and the bed was somewhat comfortable. The location is very central - a few steps from Piazza Maggiore.
This hotel was located right in the piazza maggiore. It’s a great location and walkable to restaurants, shops, cafes etc. we would definitely stay here again!
Nice hotel in the central area of the city
My daughter and i stayed in Hotel Roma for 4 nights bed and breakfast in room 424 - on entering the reception which was stunning we were made to feel very welcome and given our room key. The room was absolutely immaculate with a balcony overlooking the busy street so as there were 2 bars just down a bit i was concerned about noise but once the patio doors were closed there was no sound. The bathroom was pristine with plenty of fluffy white towels and robes. The room had a fridge and tea and coffee making facilities replenished daily. The housekeeping staff were outstanding - when we returned after a day out the bed was re-made and the room and bathroom left immaculate. Breakfast was amazing in a buffet style. I can honestly highly recommend this stunning hotel for its location its cleanliness and amazing staff.
The location of this charming hotel cannot be beat. And the value is excellent.
Staff was wonderful--helpful, and attentive.
The breakfast had a great variety of beverages, cheeses, fruits, eggs, pastries, bread, yogurt, and a variety of jams, etc. The coffee service was excellent
This is an older hotel, a standard room for two that we had was tight quarters though very. comfortable.
Each time we entered the room it had a musty odor that appeared to be coming from the shower or air-conditioning we could not figure it out. After a few minutes, it dissipated likely because the air conditioning kicks on when you insert your key up upon returning to the room.
I'd stay here again for the location and service.
Nice property. The desk staff were not very friendly when checking in and checking out (different staff). Our room was very clean & comfortable.
The service and accessibility to everything was great. Rooms were big and very clean. Staff was lovely and very attentive.
Spacious room, helpful staff, and outstanding location!
Fantastic location - just off the main square - yet very quiet. Really delightful hotel. Charming staff.
Decent hotel with perfect location. Rooms need renovation.
Staff at the front desk were friendly and helpful. The reviews of this hotel are extremely deceiving though. There is not a rooftop bar or restaurant. On occasion they host dinners there which tend to be only a few times a year. Overall decent stay and location was great but wouldn’t stay here again.
We’re given instructions to drive there. Had a spot to drop off luggage and they then took car to parking garage. Staff was great and so was room. Breakfast was great. Best part is front door of hotel is right in the centre. Restaurants and bars everywhere. Great hotel. Thank you to everyone there.
I absolutely love this hotel which is perfectly located right in the historical centre in a beautiful building. It is convenient for everything - dining, historical sites and transport. This was my second time staying there. The rooms are clean and comfortable with everything you need and the staff are fantastic. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Thankyou for a great stay.
Hotel very clean right in the center easy walk to sights and shops and restaurants
Ten steps and you're on Piazza Maggiore. Half an hour's leisurely stroll under the porticoes and you're at the Bologna Centrale station. Hotel Roma is the perfect place to enjoy Bologna. Friendly and helpful staff, comfortable bed, generous continental breakfast, good Wi-Fi—what more could one want? The interior of this hotel filled me with a sense of calm and history.
We stayed at this charming hotel twice on our three month stay in Italy, both times on the first floor.
The front of house are very efficient and helpful, especially on the first stay, where we required a doctor and the second stay where our booking somehow got lost in the system. This was quickly recitified and we were in a room not to far from the first stay.
Both times the rooms were at the front of the hotel, with the last room having a lovered shutter that could be put down at night, keeping the outside noise to a minimum.
We picked this hotel for it’s position, litterly 2 minutes from the main square in the old town, and 5 mins walk to the main shopping area.
A lot of the top restaurants are also within a ten minute walk of the hotel.
The breakfast is substantial, and they offer some extra items at a small cost
The cleaning staff are excellent, making adjustments to their schedule to accomodate our medical problem.
The one area that needs addressing is the re painting of the rooms, both rooms we stayed in had been very well used, and there were scuff marks on all the walls.
The other area is the size of the shower stall, i’m not a large person, but it was a little small for me.
That aside, position is key when we travel-and this Grand Old Lady has that in spades.
