Great staff and service
Pros:

On arrival which was early (!) Shaun at the reception did all he could to ensure I could work and the hotel was warm and welcoming. We were found a room that was ready for us sooner than expected. Excellent service and I would come again - thankyou for looking after us and the luggage!

Okay for the money
Pros:

Taking a “TV hotel inspector” type of approach…
Greeting at reception was good.
Decor in room okay, toilet seat didn’t fit
Room felt dusty. There was tea & coffee facilities in the room, but no milk and no telephone to call down to reception so couldn’t make any drinks in the room.
Room was facing the road so there was a little road noise.
Breakfast was okay nothing to get excited about, but there was no menus so was not aware of choices and had full English recommended, but was not given any choice of egg and the sausage looked nice, but was not cooked in the middle so had to leave, as there was no one around to talk to.
On leaving reception was not manned so left key card in glass bowl on the desk.
No real problem there as we had pre-paid.

Great location
Pros:

The hotel is in a good location- pubs opposite and a short drive from Berkhamsted where there are a number of pubs, bars and restaurants.
Our stay was good- the room we had was dated but I think the hotel is currently renovating rooms.
Ali, the front of house, was the nicest guy. Nothing was too much for him and he is such a credit to the hotel. Thank you Ali!

Lovely place, lovely setting. We will be back!
Pros:

This hotel is lovely and in a lovely setting. The staff couldn't do more for us. They cared for our every need, going above and beyond for us and our elderly parents. I have to recommend for a pay rise: Aleesha, Ali and Zoltan! (Apologies if I've spelled the names wrongly). They all worked so hard for people staying there - they made the stay excellent.

Pros:

Arrived late in the evening and found there still to be parking available - and the parking area felt very safe. Once checked in the hotel staff showed us to our room and explained where everything was in the room and where and when breakfast was served. The room was slightly dated but clean and there was tea/coffee and biscuits in the room. Staff were all lovely and we enjoyed our stay.

Fantastic value for money. Staff=10/10
Pros:

Stayed here for 2 nights as a business trip and the staff went above and beyond to make sure my stay was enjoyable. Shawn and Alisha was outstanding, gave me recommendations to eat and also local history. They also went out their way to sourced me a phone charger (from the office) as I left mine at home. It’s great value for money and I slept very well. The room was very quiet, I could barely hear any noise which is rare in these sorts of hotels.

The pub across the road does amazing food and the location is brilliant. Fantastic value for money

Key requirements were met but check ahead if you have mobility issues.
Pros:

Room was clean, bed was comfortable, plenty of hot water, good shower.
Decor is tired but I didn’t mind as the price was OK. Breakfast was good but finished at 9.30am on week days which might be a bit early for people who are not business travellers.
Access to the outside seating space was locked on the 2 mornings that I tried it. I advised on the booking that I had limited mobility but was assigned a room in an adjoining building with a trip hazard step at the bedroom door entry. I would advise a phone call before arrival to check that a suitable room is available if you have limited mobility. Staff were pleasant. I would stay again as the location was very near family that I was visiting.

Pros:

A few niggles getting into my room but this was quickly rectified. Service was great. Alisha looked after me on arrival, and was very helpful. The lock on the door was faulty so she ensured this was sorted out as I needed to pop out. True to her word was resolved on return. Very friendly and polite, nothing was too much trouble. Room was nice and clean. Nice view of the brook from the window. No evening meals at the moment, but there are two pubs across the road, one of them offers a 10% discount for hotel guests. Will stay again.

Scary
Pros:

We were having a great time until I felt a sharpe pain in the bed and when we investigated it we found a “needle” in the bedding which looked like a drug users needle so all in all we left in the middle of the night and have now had to have tests and wait for any results incase the needle was infected

Unmitigated disaster- shabby, broken, avoid.
Pros:

This hotel literally the worst I have ever stayed in during all 60 years of travelling including hostels in countries with more lax health and safety!! First room stained carpet and broken mirror; second room cracked basin and worst of all door that did not close (!) third room wires instead of plug on kettle, shabby and view of tipped rubbish!!! I usually try and err on the positive side because hospitality is hard. However this was an unmitigated disaster and would have been robbery at half the price. Any good points? Breakfast ( if you discount tinned rather than fresh fruit) was freshly cooked ; the mill with stream is pretty and the pub opposite absolutely delightful. The staff , though I suspect care worn dealing with so many issues, did their best and were polite. The whole hotel needs a revamp and I really struggle to believe the positive reviews unless there were some secretly newly decorated rooms and/ or visitors accompanied by a guide dog.
