Maldron Hotel Sandy Road Galway

Stayed here in March 2026 to celebrate our first wedding anniversary.

Room:
Our room was very big. It was clean and nice, the furniture and bathroom were a bit dated but it was still a nice room, with a mini fridge.

Food:
Lunch was really nice, there were a lot of new staff who didn't have the best training but it could have been their first day, can't really fault them.
Breakfast was 10/10, great selection and delicious.
The experienced staff in the bar were lovely and really friendly.

Location:
Not too bad, about a 20 minute walk from the city centre. You would need a taxi at night but they were only €10.

Other:
There is a fitness suite but we didn't get a chance to use it. There is lots of free parking available underground, vending machines also available. Staff were all very nice and helpful.

Overall would definitely stay here again, really positive experience.

I came here with my husband and children in December as part of a Christmas get away. We were checked in quickly upon arrival. When booking in advance we requested side rails for the beds for my child. My child has Cerebral Palsy and is a wheelchair user so it was imperative he was safe when sleeping. I was told over the phone while booking they would be provided. When we got to the room we realised they weren't there. We rang reception to ask for them as we were staying for two nights and they were a need. After a few minutes the receptionist rang back to explain they didn't have any. I couldn't really talk to her because of my kids so told her I would call down. When I got there the manager Luis was waiting. He explained how sorry he was but that he didn't have the rails and was also sorry they were promised in advance. He offered to help rejig the room to ensure my sons safety, a refund or to help us relocate to another hotel. We opted for the rejig of the room as were happy enough staying there other than this. Luis went above and beyond to make sure the beds were positioned so my son didn't fall out. He personally helped move them. He also sorted us out with a dinner despite not asking for it and insisting it wasn't necessary

Overall we had a lovely stay. The food was delicious. The room was clean and pleasant. The receptionist staff, restaurant staff and manager are a huge credit to this hotel. I'm raging I don't know all their names but management really should be making sure they're looked after to keep them. They really would be a loss to this company if they ever leave!

Would I come back? Absolutely without hesitation. I'll just bring rails with me. But how accommodating and caring everyone was made us want to return this year. Again, a huge shout out to Luis. He really deserves the recognition as almost three months on we still talk about how great he was (I'm sad I couldn't get this review done sooner!)

Good hotel, friendly staff, breakfast was strange, staff took away the hot buffet food, after a wait told us we could get a full irish breakfast. Breakfast was fine but a menu, or a buffet would have been better. Not everyone likes a full irish.

Booked the king deluxe room at a high rate for a night away, was less than satisfactory. Room was average, tv was small with no streaming services, shower had low pressure. Room took a couple hours to heat up. Walls were paper thin was up most of the night due to people in the next room being very loud between the hours of 2 and 4am, rang front desk 3 times and no answer. Loud disturbances in the corridors in early hours of the morning, took management some time to address this.
Payed extra for a late checkout only to be woken by phone ringing to front desk to tell us checkout was at 11am also had someone knocking on room door moments after this.
Very unhappy with our stay considering we paid a lot of money for a relaxing, quiet night away.

Generally the staff were lovely. Allowed early check in which was great. The location isn't too far from Galway however its in a difficult place off the highway. The rooms are spacious and nice. However in our room no plugs beside bed. At opposite side of room so annoying when charging phone. The TV needs updating as its not a smart tv and we couldn't put on any movies. Other than that a fab place.

Overpriced for what it is. Breakfast was chaos. Coffee machines not working no staff sausages and bacon none left at 10am. Room ok, beds small. Shower dirty. Overall won’t be returning

V good, plentiful Greek salad and pretty good hummus. Veg burger highly rated, good chips. Chowder so so.
Breakfasts - freshly cooked good eg poached egg and porridge. Excellent range fresh fruit and yoghurt. Fried food dried out. Good coffee.

Stayed here just last weekend with my family and what a lovely hotel this is with the best staff. From booking stage to check out i was looked after very well. This hotel is in a great location also only walking distance. It was my little boys birthday and they left a kovely surprise in the room for him and also brought out a cake after our meal and sang happy birthday. I would like to say a huge thankyou to all the team especially the Deputy General Manager Dean he went above and beyond to ensure we had an excellent stay. We ate both nights as the food was top notch. I will definatley be returning and will highly recommend to all my friends and family.

From the moment we stepped into this hotel the service really was second to none. we travelled here with a group of girls 19 in total and we really got the best service from the receptionist to bar/ food staff to cleaners they were so nice and accommodating. Location was perfect short taxi fare to the town. The food was amazing the price was just right also. great value for our money. So Huge thank you to everyone here.

Went for lunch with friends to this hotel,was served by a extremely polite and friendly young lady called lily, couldn't do enough for us,rare to find a most pleasant person nowadays,a credit to lily's parents, would definitely recommend as food was also fabulous

The room wasn’t ready we arrived. When we were able to get into our room there was an overpowering smell best described and someone dumping an entire bottle of cologne on the carpet. When we mentioned it we were told to try turning on the ac to circulate the air. This did not work. Hours later the smell was strong as ever an made it very difficult to sleep. The shower dripped at night as well. The nexf day upon check out we again mentioned the overpowering smell and were told it was antiseptic spray or possibly air fresher used by the cleaning staff. Simply said they would mention it. Would not stay again or recommend
