Pros:

Everyone was nice and polite and it was a beautiful hotel overall.

Cons:

The room was plain nicely decorated but nothing like the photos needed some extra attention in some places in the room such as the walls and the windows were dirty and we had a boring view of a skip… the spa was closed and the grounds were not as nice as we thought we couldn’t really walk around and enjoy them.

Mulberry Restaurant
Pros:

This is review is for the Mulberry Restaurant only as we had a Sunday lunch there recently but have not stayed as hotel guests. This was a first visit and we were not disappointed. We had a phone call earlier in the day to advise that the “usual” buffet roast would be a plated meal but that was not a problem for us and the amount of food was plentiful, varied and tasty. We discovered during our visit that a large wedding the day before was the reason for reduced diners which was a shame as the large dining room had a lovely outlook but due to the few diners there was a slight lack of atmosphere. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful.

I feel I've been Scammed
Pros:

The hotel charged me their additional £50 day rate despite me not spending that amount in the bar. (As an aside I am reviewing Consumer Rights Act to check this is legal). Yes! their there were various statements about this at reception but frankly you just want to check in or out quickly!!
We stayed in room 3114.......the air conditioning unit 'chugged' away all night to the point at 05.00 we checked out and drove home to get some well deserved sleep. We skipped breakfast.
Other issues with this room are the cheap bedding used and not what we were expecting. Found some hairs on the sheets.
The ensuite bathroom floor was filthy, and my partner put towels down to avoid walking barefoot on the floor after a bath. Looks like the radiator had leaked at some point.
The staff were polite and attentive but all were young or in training, no Leadership Management were in sight and my advice to the Managing Director and is venture out of your office occasionally to find out what is going on in your hotel.

A pleasant stay; hotel & grounds is a little tired and staff in restaurant need better training.
Pros:

Reception staff very helpful in organising an upgrade on arrival for a lake view room
Bed and pillows very comfortable
Good parking facilities

Cons:

The hotel was pretty busy with a big wedding going on but at breakfast time staff were very slow to clear tables and the buffet breakfast was almost empty well before breakfast time ended; consequently this caused queues for food; we had to ask staff on both days to replenish the dwindling buffet and bread for toast. Owners/ Management should invest more in staff training; the staff were trying their best.

Average. No more
Pros:

A very grand looking place which claims 10 acres of grounds. But there seem to be private estate signs all around, and if you should want to stroll down to the lake which it borders, then bring walking boots! The grounds are, at best, tired. Our 'superior' room was actually quite small. More adequate than superior, to be honest. Breakfast is a buffet style affair with both cooked and continental options. But the cooked was at least in part cold even at 8.30am on a Sunday, an there were no rolls or other bread except that for toasting in the arthritic toaster, which on the first past left my slice completely white, and when I put it through again it was near cremated.
The bar was, as usual, overpriced. Even these days I think £5 for an Orangina is a bit steep, as was £3.50 for a tiny 200ml bottle of Diet Coke. Ok for an overnight, which is what we used it for. But I wouldn't stay for longer, as I'd get a bigger room at Premier Inn.

Tired
Pros:

Stayed here for a couple of nights over the weekend and was in the Frederick section with quite steep stairs. This is quite tired and there are black marks all over the walls around the whole area and the carpet looks as if it has never been shampooed. The bedroom was large (Executive Double - King size bed) but again, very tired. The aircon unit sounded like a washing machine so was noisy throughout the night. The shower/bathroom was really big but the overhead spout spat water in all different directions.
Needs some TLC as the building and surrounding areas are very nice.
