Sueño al Mar Residence & Hotel

Let me start by helping others avoid getting lost when finding this hotel/resort. When searching on Google, it directed us to a different location—but luckily, it was close to the actual hotel. Make sure to look for Villaggio Sueño al Mar, Flor de Pacifico #5 (the correct location). Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by security, who will direct you to the main office.

I booked a villa for a family of four, which came with two bedrooms. The villa had a kitchenette, which made it more affordable to cook rather than eating out all the time. Housekeeping came by every other day to keep the place clean.

Keep in mind, this place can be a bit loud—almost like staying in the rural areas of Costa Rica. You’ll hear birds chirping, iguanas running around the premises, cows nearby, and even howler monkeys.

One of the best parts is its location: close to beaches, local restaurants called “sodas” in Costa Rica, and small markets. Just be warned—there are bugs, and they will make their way inside (ants and millipedes). Bring bug spray, because mosquitoes will find you.

Aside from that, I truly enjoyed my stay at Sueño al Mar—from the friendly, helpful staff to the unique, almost jungle-like experience.

Relaxing and quiet stay. Check in process easy and staff was helpful. Villa was clean with frequent housekeeping service. Highlight was the pool which is accessible to all guests. Beach is a 10 minute drive away or 20 minute walk. Grocery store Super La Muralla nearby along with small restaurants serving breakfast and lunch.

The rooms were decorated beautifully, showers were big, and the property was nice. However, I wouldn’t recommend because it was literally infested with ants and termites. Theres are better options in playa flamingo area.

It’s a very nice place. 3 star plus. Grounds are well kept, pool is clean. Only complaints were the noise from the palm trees on the metal roof, (unbearable when windy) and the family of Ferrel cats

We had a great experience and enjoyed everything that the area has to offer. This location is nestled on the perfect spot between Las Catalinas and Tamarindo. Property was clean and staff friendly. Just a very long walk to the unit from where you have to park and unload.

Very cute and cozy. Loved the pool! I liked that there was a kitchen, next time I hope to take advantage of it lol. Loved the local restaurants. Can't wait to return!

BE AWARE—this property is clean and spacious. The staff is friendly and the pool is clean and pretty. However parking is a problem. The last night we had to park outside and someone scratch our rental car. We had to pay a deductible at the rental car. Although the property is awesome I would stay away do to the parking situation regardless of the security guard that means nothing.

Do not stay here! Staff have attitudes and are rude. There is a large dog they keep muzzled due to unfriendly behavior in the reception area. There is no quiet hours and people are yelling and having loud conversations out at the pool all night. We had a drunk man knocking on our door at midnight wearing a headlight saying the power was out but it wasn't. The driveway is steap and our 4 wheel drive Suv had trouble getting up to the parking. The room we had had no water pressure to shower. No coffee pots in room. ABSOLUTELY WOULD NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN!

Dishes - missing basic cooking items like flipper, tongs, ice cube tray, sharp knives.
WiFi good when working but last 3 wks was very intermittent.
Lack of tea towels and no aprons.
Lack of sealable containers, for use when frig. out of order. Purchased additional containers.
Bad
First three weeks refrigerator didn't work properly requiring disposal of food on two occasions. When reported, repairs were made quickly but unfortunately it took three repairs to get it working. Even then never worked properly.
Nearby pool dirty. Filtration system didn't seem to be working.  Unsafe pool deck level changes. Paint faded on edges, not clearly marked as step up/down. Deck chairs not always available. Due to safety concerns did not use this pool. Used pool at Villagio Uno.
Curtains in all rooms did not provide privacy. The bathroom was the only room to use for changing. This was an issue when on two occasions, someone outside, using a flashlight, appeared to be looking into rooms at night.
Ants everywhere. Very tiny ants were in every room and on ever surface (walls, countertops, appliances).
Decor very tired and drab. Bedding worn, curtains dirty (dead fly carcasses, dust etc. stuck in mesh).
Porch furniture uncomfortable. Dirty cushions had very little padding. Wicker worn and unraveling. Hammock old and sun bleached.
