Pros:

La posizione

Cons:

La camera era molto piccola, squallida, buia. Non c’era possibilità di aprire la finestra (che era lercia) e dava in un cavedio. Non è assolutamente una camera di un hotel 5 stelle

Pros:

Every thing was amazing and the staff were so helpful

Cons:

Unfortunately the room I got was near some machines so it was a bit noisy and you could feel a vibration in the floor.

Mislead by website photography
Pros:

Whilst the location was fantastic and overall the hotel was good. . The website needs serious updating as the rooms in the photos do not represent the rooms we were given . We booked a premium room which boasted fantastic views and a high floor whilst we did get the high floor. The room was very tight and much smaller than photos showed. Walls and doors were shabby and our room situated right beside by the exit stairwell. I wouldn’t have said the view was amazing however there was a window with a view of a building. The bathroom was extremely small .
We did register a complaint about this with the hotel. They did not seem surprised that we were complaining. It was clear it was not the first time they have heard this . Disappointing as we had booked this hotel six months ahead and expected to get what we paid for .

Misrepresentation of rooms on website.
Pros:

Booked and paid for a king premium room but was given a classic room. The photos on the website do not align with reality and are misleading. The room was a good standard and the hotel was excellent in all other respects, but we were very disappointed and feel cheated.

Totally misled
Pros:

Booked a king premium room about 9 months ago. The website indicates breathtaking views and upper floor opulence. Received a room on the first floor with a magnificent view of back alleys and rubbish dumpsters. Was totally fobbed off by management. The room itself was pleasant but not what was promised by the marketing.

Wonderful hotel and restaurant
Pros:

We loved this hotel. Yes, it is expensive, but our IHG membership got us an upgrade to a beautiful suite so it felt like great value.
The design, art, and quality of the furnishings in our room and elsewhere were impressive. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and the bathroom was huge for an inner-city hotel. There was fresh milk in the fridge for tea and coffee - a small thing but it's rare these days so they get extra points for that. Ditto for turn down service.
The restaurant, Le Petit Beefbar, is outstanding - Excellent food and service and great decor. We ate there twice and ordered pretty much the same thing each time, it was so good.
The hotel's location is perfect for exploring Edinburghs many delights.

Old world charm with just the right sprinkle of Scottish hospitality!
Pros:

We stayed here for the first time in the winter of 2024. The George is a very charmingly preserved Heritage property in the heart of Edinburgh, located close to the St Andrews Square. Also very close to the Waverley Railway station which is at walkable distance. From the moment you step into the hotel, the staff welcome you cordially and look after you throughout the length of your stay. Especially the staff at the door and in the lobby. They’re always happy to take a moment to chat, or lend you an umbrella on the way out.
The rooms are big ( albeit a little dated since the carpets are now a tad old). Since it is a Heritage property, the bathrooms are minuscule.
That said, the bathrooms are clean and well equipped. The toiletries are of good quality. And the water is always hot with adequate shower pressure.
We always appreciate the comfort of the bed. We asked for down feather pillows which were provided. We also love the caramel bars that await us in the room and there’s a generous, complimentary mini bar..
Breakfast is definitely one of the highlights of staying at the hotel. They have an excellent buffet with plenty of fresh fruit, salmon, smoked meats, cereals etc.
You can order beverages and hot food from a set menu and the staff are always happy to accommodate allergies or special requests. The buffet is served in a beautiful room which might’ve been a ballroom at one time and has a beautiful fluted ceiling with a gorgeous skylight. Walking through the George is in itself a tour into Scottish historical and architectural Heritage.
In 2026, we stopped there again for two nights on our way into and out of Edinburgh. Unfortunately during our second stay, we were in a room which was above a very noisy street. The noise continued throughout the night and started early the next morning. Since we were only staying for a night on our way into the Highlands, this was inconvenient. On our way out, we stopped by at the reception desk and asked the trainee at the desk if we could be given a quiet term for our return to Edinburgh next week. Unfortunately, he said that he couldn’t guarantee a quiet room. This convinced us to reserve another hotel in the city centre. We missed the George. We would definitely, on the promise of a quiet room return to this charming property again.
A special shout out to the breakfast crew and lobby staff.

Very Disappointing Experience – Not Worth the InterContinental Name
Pros:

This is by far the worst InterContinental hotel I have ever stayed at. The level of service was extremely disappointing and fell well below the standards I expect from the InterContinental brand.

The staff were unprofessional, unwelcoming, and showed little interest in assisting guests. As an IHG One Rewards Diamond Elite member, I expected my loyalty to be acknowledged and valued, but it was completely overlooked.

To make matters worse, the sink in my room was faulty and required maintenance during my stay. Instead of resolving the issue promptly and minimizing the inconvenience, it disrupted my stay and wasted valuable time that I had planned to spend resting.

In my opinion, this property feels more like a 4-star hotel than a true luxury InterContinental. The overall experience did not justify the premium price, especially when compared to neighboring hotels that provide significantly better service and value.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this hotel. Based on my experience, I would not choose to stay here again.

A Totally Wonderful Stay
Pros:

We stayed at this property as a family from 28th June to 3rd July and it was such a wonderful stay . I had come to Edinburgh previously and had stayed in property in the Old Town but this time I decided it would have been easier to stay in The New town area s there are so many good restaurants around here .
The hotel itself is not new but the room is large and my room comes with a bathtub . Housekeeping was great and you get complimentary soft drinks in the mini bar as well as two large bottles of water daily .
My room did not have a view ( it was overlooking an old building and a construction site- which was very quiet actually ) which was ok as it was super quiet and I had really good sleep .
The bed in the room is huge and the room also has a small table as well as a writing desk with Nespresso machine and a kettle .
Breakfast was good although they could have had more variety in the fruit selection ( some berries would have been nice so I brought my own from Marks & Spencer ) . Services at breakfast / reception and concierge were super efficient .
The gym is alright . Small but why would you want to spend more than an hour in there when you are in such a wonderful walking / hiking city that is Edinburgh .
Would come back to this hotel in the future for sure .
