A total haven. Just my favourite hotel in every way - wonderfully quiet but yet convenient location, beautiful gardens, spotlessly clean, huge comfortable bed, lovely pool, amazing unobtrusive yet very helpful staff. We have been twice now and will be back.
We have recently returned from our fifth visit to this exquisite hotel in Madeira. There is just nothing to fault with this hotel as everything is five star. The accommodation, the gardens, the pool and all of the amenities are beautifully maintained. It is the staff that make this hotel exceptional as nothing is too much trouble for them and they are all superb ambassadors for the establishment. We look forward to returning again.

The hotel restaurant was great. We loved breakfast in the courtyard. Our room was spacious with a wonderful view of the garden. The property and gardens are beautiful.

Overall:
We had a wonderful stay at Quinta Jardins do Lago and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Madeira. A truly memorable experience that exceeded our expectations
This is a really nice hotel. The reviews we read before making a reservation were correct and to the point. So upon arrival we were not surprised, all the staff were very pleasant and supportive. Our room 311 was excellent with a fabulous view over the quite magnificent gardens. The whole of the hotel and its grounds are not overlooked at all. It is so quiet. The food is at a very high level of fine dining. If you wish to visit another restaurant in Funchal simply take the shuttle bus at 5,30pm and return whenever by taxi at approximately 7.50 euro's. A Supermarket is within easy walking distance should you require it. The swimming pool is exceptional, constant temp. of 32C and sun beds are plentiful. This hotel was so nice we forgot everything we had planned and simply spent every day by the pool where we were able to eat and take drinks. The staff, above all else, make you feel very special. Exceptional.
We had the most wonderful time in the hotel. The rooms were large, clean and well maintained. The staff were helpful and friendly. We had breakfast which was a la carte which was such a nice change.
The bar of an evening was nice and relaxing.
We ate in the restaurant one night and the food was very nice.
The pool area was clean and well kept but finding the tortoise in the garden was such fun she is amazing.
Would come back and recommend. Only draw back was it is as the top of a very steep hill but there is a mini bus to take you up and down to Funchal alas my husband and did walk it many times.
Arrived late at night to find a cold plate set up in my room. Room spacious lovely and so quiet. The cleanliness was second to none. Veranda overlooking balcony. I was bed and breakfast and the breakfasts were amazing. Toured the gardens and met the resident tortoise Colombo. Courtesy bus was available to take you into Funchal. The staff were amazing and the atmosphere was so relaxed. Speaking of relaxation, had a hot stone massage and facial. Much needed after 3 full days of trips including hiking. Plus the pool was amazing. Deffo coming back.
Wow! What a beautiful hotel set in marvellous gardens. Our junior sweet overlooking the garden from the Manor House was magnificent and everything worked. The staff were welcoming, attentive, friendly and efficient. The food was beautifully cooked and presented. Dinner in the garden with musical accompaniment was a joy. The public rooms were elegant.
Excellent hotel set in a beautiful garden.
The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The rooms were immaculate and nothing was too much trouble. We were late arriving because of flight delays but they had prepared a cold selection for us as the kitchens were long closed. There was always fresh fruit in the room and still water.
The food in the Beresford restaurant was delicious and we were lucky to be able to sit outside for dinner accompanied by a wonderful jazz trio. Breakfast on the veranda overlooking the garden was a lovely mix of continental breakfast with hot selections from the à la carte menu. The yoghurts were particularly good as was the fruit selection.
The gardens themselves were fantastic, beautifully planted with exotic flowers and trees. We had a guided tour one evening from the head gardener and learned so much about the island botany as well as other plants growing there. We enjoyed our daily walk through the garden to visit Colombo, the Galapagos tortoise and the carp in the pond.
The hotel has a great pool and hot tub and a good fitness room. Lunch by the pool was excellent with the crispy scabbard fish a favourite accompanied by Madeira rose wine.
Overall this is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at and we really enjoyed our visit to Madeira.
WOW - what an amazing stay. This place really is a gem - it was recommended by two sets of friends and we now see why.
The setting is amazing, the rooms are lovely, clean and spacious, the gardens beautiful and the staff really really good. Its worth every penny for such a great place to stay.
Nothing was too much trouble and they go above and beyond to make sure you are well looked after. (im veganish and they dealt with my fussiness so very well at breakfast lunch and dinner!)
The restaurant is amazing - dinner inside and outside - breakfast is amazing outside in the garden and the pool bar for lunch was lovely. Pool and gardens amazing, so quiet and peaceful.
We didnt use it but there is a shuttle bus in to town and back all day - we walked down one day (trainers not flip flops recommended) Taxi back! (its 20mins down steep hills but you can walk down - just not back!)
Funchal old town is a delight and theres plenty to see and do or just sit and watch and relax.
We'll defo be back to this lovely hotel.
Madeira is an amazing island and this is a great place to stay.
Just superb. This was our third visit. We were treated with the junior suite which has the secret stairway, behind a cuboard door, to General Beresford`s roof-top terrace. A special bonus this time was the guided tour led by the hotel`s botanist (Kew Gardens-trained) which was fascinating.
Probably the best property in Madeira. So cozy and welcoming. No kids, no loud music or bars, great for travelers who came to enjoy peaceful nature of the island.
It’s literally inside the lush botanical garden, so you don’t feel that you are in Funchal city at all.
Great, large swimming pool, outdoor jacuzzi, all rooms have lovely view of the gardens. Incredibly well trained front office and F&B stuff.
Spa is amazing, I went twice during my stay for a full body massage and facial and I wish I went even more. I highly recommend you booking your massage after the flight or a long hike.
Plenty of free parking in the hotel, super convenient if you are renting a car.
Very friendly and hard working housekeeping stuff.
Loved the lunch and dinner menu, tuna steak sandwich was so yummy we ordered it three times.
The only thing me and my husband did not really like is breakfast menu, specially everything with the eggs, it just did not taste good at all. Breakfast buffet works out well though, and location of the restaurant is amazing right inside the garden.
I can’t wait to be back❤️
Everything ☺️ The location, the view, cleanliness, large rooms, amazing staff, excellent food. Just perfect.
The wifi was sometimes weak.
Great place to stay with beautiful gardens and pool
Breakfast in the gardens a real treat
Reception staff absolutely superb !
Our absolute favorite stay on Madeira and the one we look forward to returning to every year.
The property is a unique old English estate full of character, elegance, and history. What makes it truly exceptional is its magnificent garden, beautifully maintained and offering splendid views overlooking Funchal. Sitting among the lush surroundings while taking in the scenery is one of the great pleasures of every stay.
The hotel itself is wonderful, but the people make it unforgettable. The team is outstanding—professional, warm, and genuinely welcoming. Many staff members have been there for years, which creates a rare sense of continuity and familiarity. It's always a pleasure to see familiar faces who remember us and make us feel at home from the moment we arrive.
Year after year, this hotel continues to deliver the same high standards, charm, and hospitality that first made us fall in love with it. For us, it isn't just the best hotel in Madeira; it has become part of our annual tradition.
We are already looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommended.
We spent five nights here while exploring the island and couldn’t ask for a better home base. The gardens were delightful. We love Colombo! The food was delicious and our room was spacious and comfortable. Thank you and we hope to return one day!
