Wow! What a beautiful hotel set in marvellous gardens. Our junior sweet overlooking the garden from the Manor House was magnificent and everything worked. The staff were welcoming, attentive, friendly and efficient. The food was beautifully cooked and presented. Dinner in the garden with musical accompaniment was a joy. The public rooms were elegant.
Excellent hotel set in a beautiful garden.
The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The rooms were immaculate and nothing was too much trouble. We were late arriving because of flight delays but they had prepared a cold selection for us as the kitchens were long closed. There was always fresh fruit in the room and still water.
The food in the Beresford restaurant was delicious and we were lucky to be able to sit outside for dinner accompanied by a wonderful jazz trio. Breakfast on the veranda overlooking the garden was a lovely mix of continental breakfast with hot selections from the à la carte menu. The yoghurts were particularly good as was the fruit selection.
The gardens themselves were fantastic, beautifully planted with exotic flowers and trees. We had a guided tour one evening from the head gardener and learned so much about the island botany as well as other plants growing there. We enjoyed our daily walk through the garden to visit Colombo, the Galapagos tortoise and the carp in the pond.
The hotel has a great pool and hot tub and a good fitness room. Lunch by the pool was excellent with the crispy scabbard fish a favourite accompanied by Madeira rose wine.
Overall this is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at and we really enjoyed our visit to Madeira.
WOW - what an amazing stay. This place really is a gem - it was recommended by two sets of friends and we now see why.
The setting is amazing, the rooms are lovely, clean and spacious, the gardens beautiful and the staff really really good. Its worth every penny for such a great place to stay.
Nothing was too much trouble and they go above and beyond to make sure you are well looked after. (im veganish and they dealt with my fussiness so very well at breakfast lunch and dinner!)
The restaurant is amazing - dinner inside and outside - breakfast is amazing outside in the garden and the pool bar for lunch was lovely. Pool and gardens amazing, so quiet and peaceful.
We didnt use it but there is a shuttle bus in to town and back all day - we walked down one day (trainers not flip flops recommended) Taxi back! (its 20mins down steep hills but you can walk down - just not back!)
Funchal old town is a delight and theres plenty to see and do or just sit and watch and relax.
We'll defo be back to this lovely hotel.
Madeira is an amazing island and this is a great place to stay.
Just superb. This was our third visit. We were treated with the junior suite which has the secret stairway, behind a cuboard door, to General Beresford`s roof-top terrace. A special bonus this time was the guided tour led by the hotel`s botanist (Kew Gardens-trained) which was fascinating.
Probably the best property in Madeira. So cozy and welcoming. No kids, no loud music or bars, great for travelers who came to enjoy peaceful nature of the island.
It’s literally inside the lush botanical garden, so you don’t feel that you are in Funchal city at all.
Great, large swimming pool, outdoor jacuzzi, all rooms have lovely view of the gardens. Incredibly well trained front office and F&B stuff.
Spa is amazing, I went twice during my stay for a full body massage and facial and I wish I went even more. I highly recommend you booking your massage after the flight or a long hike.
Plenty of free parking in the hotel, super convenient if you are renting a car.
Very friendly and hard working housekeeping stuff.
Loved the lunch and dinner menu, tuna steak sandwich was so yummy we ordered it three times.
The only thing me and my husband did not really like is breakfast menu, specially everything with the eggs, it just did not taste good at all. Breakfast buffet works out well though, and location of the restaurant is amazing right inside the garden.
I can’t wait to be back❤️
Everything ☺️ The location, the view, cleanliness, large rooms, amazing staff, excellent food. Just perfect.
The wifi was sometimes weak.
Great place to stay with beautiful gardens and pool
Breakfast in the gardens a real treat
Reception staff absolutely superb !
Our absolute favorite stay on Madeira and the one we look forward to returning to every year.
The property is a unique old English estate full of character, elegance, and history. What makes it truly exceptional is its magnificent garden, beautifully maintained and offering splendid views overlooking Funchal. Sitting among the lush surroundings while taking in the scenery is one of the great pleasures of every stay.
The hotel itself is wonderful, but the people make it unforgettable. The team is outstanding—professional, warm, and genuinely welcoming. Many staff members have been there for years, which creates a rare sense of continuity and familiarity. It's always a pleasure to see familiar faces who remember us and make us feel at home from the moment we arrive.
Year after year, this hotel continues to deliver the same high standards, charm, and hospitality that first made us fall in love with it. For us, it isn't just the best hotel in Madeira; it has become part of our annual tradition.
We are already looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommended.
We spent five nights here while exploring the island and couldn’t ask for a better home base. The gardens were delightful. We love Colombo! The food was delicious and our room was spacious and comfortable. Thank you and we hope to return one day!
This in my view is a really special hotel, my wife and I agree that it is the best hotel we have ever stayed in.
The setting of the hotel and its facilities are excellent, a perfect location in Funchal, but what really makes the hotel special is the quality of its staff.
Friendly, helpful, highly professional, with a strong focus on quality and attention to details.
I always try to balance my reviews with something that could be improved, but in all honesty I could not come up with anything at all.
Such a beautiful hotel ,the grounds with all the varied flowers are gorgeous...and the pool with its views are peaceful n relaxing. We especially love the staff who genuinely welcome you ,and the food is excellent.
All in all we love going back.
But we must not forget Colombo the giant tortoise who lives there !
This is an excellent hotel…food was very good, staff were super helpful and friendly and unlike most 5* hotels there was no sense that we were being ripped off …it was excellent value
This was our fourth stay at this fabulous hotel and it was as amazing as ever. The location is great, being on the hill above Funchal. The hotel provides complimentary transport down into Funchal several times a day. The gardens are wonderful, as are the rooms. They are a really good size and they all have balconies overlooking the gardens.
The swimming pool is beautiful and there are always plenty of sunbeds and towels. The whole atmosphere of Jardins do Lago is one of calmness and quiet luxury.
The very best thing here are the staff. They are all so friendly and helpful without being at all intrusive. They do their very best to ensure you have the best time possible and will go out of their way to be helpful.
We definitely plan to go back here, hopefully in the not too distant future.
Amazing gardens. Staff very friendly and attentive. Lovely pool area. Very spacious bedroom
Everything my wife and I would expect from a 5 star hotel. Superb location, wonderful rooms, fine food and fine wine. The entire hotel, including the grounds, were spotless. The Pool is heated to a very pleasant 25 degrees and never seems crowded. Plentiful staff for whom nothing seems too much to ask. The gardens are magnificent and extensive. This was our second stay; we have already booked our third.
We went to this hotel for our honeymoon and will return .
This hotel is beautiful, small intimate with the most extensive well kept gardens Pool and terrace .The staff are attentive and freindly with nothing being too much trouble and the food was exceptional .
The rooms are spacious ,and clean
We couldnt of asked for more
My wife and I stayed here for a week. This is a wonderful hotel! The staff were superb from the welcome as we arrived, to the restaurant staff and the housekeeping staff; nothing was too much trouble and every effort was made to make us feel welcome and relaxed. The gardens are magnificent - just spending time watching Monarch butterflies floating lazily was heaven - let alone wandering around the beautiful gardens. Our room was clean and tidy, a decent size and led to a verandah which was always peaceful. I really could not fault this location - even down to the fact that not once did we see people being selfish and 'bagging' seats by the pool, as we have in other, similarly priced hotels. Pure pleasure from beginning to end and so many fond memories!
Przepyszne, urozmaicone śniadanie, przepiękny ogród botaniczny z 600 gatunków roślin. Ta Quinta na pewno pozostanie w naszej pamięci jako najlepszy hotel na Maderze. Dziękujemy
