There is a “class system” used by some staff members which brings it down.
Pros:

We stayed at the Hilton for my partners birthday. The guest services staff were very generous and decorated the room at no extra cost to us which was a wonderful addition and gave a special birthday that extra touch, and I greatly appreciated this. We were also upgraded to an executive room but I then decided to pay to upgrade us to a junior suite instead as this included breakfast and access to the executive lounge, which the upgrade did not include.

The majority of the staff we encountered were lovely but a situation in the executive lounge left us feeling like we wouldn’t want to return or spend any more money at the Hilton brand to be honest.

We were paying customers, we have both stayed at this same hotel multiple times in the past so it’s not like we were new customers or a one off stay, but because we aren’t diamond Hilton members we were treated differently to other customers in the executive lounge which put a really dampener on what was such a lovely stay.

From 6-8pm the executive lounge services alcoholic beverages and some food items. They brought out a platter of chicken wings and by the time we got to the front they were all gone, but more were brought out shortly after so we got a couple each. The younger member of staff who had set up the executive lounge and was a really lovely lady then explained to everybody that once that platter was gone there wouldn’t be any more chicken wings served, we thought it was a bit odd as the day before they had lots left when we went into the lounge just before 8pm but we figured it was due to the kitchen not being available to make more or something. However, a more senior member of staff then stood between our table and the table next to us and told them that even though the food wouldn’t be replenished, if THEY wanted chicken wings, she would get the chef to make them some. I was actually shocked that this kind of attitude was occurring at all, let alone right in front of us. We were paying guests just as much as they were so why would you not offer the same to all guests in the executive lounge rather than one particular table? To be quite honest, it was just plain rude and it has really put us off of wanting to come back. Baring in mind this was happening ON my partners 30th birthday. So not really making it feel special, in fact making us feel like we weren’t welcome or worthy enough for the Hilton lounge experience that I PAID for!

After the lady left, the gentleman at that table actually exclaimed to the rest of their table that he was shocked she offered them that and it must be because they’re diamond members as she didn’t offer it to anybody else in the lounge even though we all paid the same and that he didn’t think it was very fair (this wasn’t said to us but he said it to the rest of his table loud enough that we heard). So when one of your “diamond” guests even notices and comments on the situation and the disparity of it, maybe you should reconsider how you treat all of your paying customers instead of picking and choosing who you can offer a service to. Baring in mind the canapés are supposed to be served from 6-8pm and there were over 30 minutes left so anyone coming in at around 7:15-7:30pm would’ve been hard out of luck to get any of them. The lady also offered to go and get that same table next to us some cheese from downstairs and didn’t offer this to anybody else. I was honestly shocked at how rude it was to do it at all but especially to do that right in front of us where we would obviously hear and see what was happening. We’d only gone in there to get a quick bite to eat and have some cider before we went out to celebrate my partners birthday some more but that lady (not the younger one who set it up, she was wonderful, but the older one) left a bitter feeling about that experience. I wouldn’t recommend paying to go to the lounge unless you’re a diamond member as you’ll receive a completely different experience apparently!
