Van der Valk Volendam

This is a lovely hotel surrounded by green open spaces. The hotel is newly refurbished so all furnishing in the public areas and the room we stayed in are new. The restaurant serves a beautiful buffet style breakfast and serves a basic but wholesome menu for lunch and dinner. Food quality is excellent and the staff extremely kind and attentive.

Plenty of parking is available but to go to central Amsterdam, the bus is the best choice. The stop is less than 100 meters away and takes you directly to Amsterdam central. The villages of Volendam and Edam al almost within walking distance.

Although there was construction at the site it’s well managed and not a hindrance to the stay. Great location and a great stay

For some reason my room card (room 413) wouldn't work on the 3rd evening, which was a problem as it was after 10.30 in the evening, and i was a single 69 year old traveller. I returned to reception and the card was reset, i returned again to the 4th floor to find it still wasn't working. A member of staff then escorted me to the access door on the 4th floor to ensure it worked the 3rd time.

The room was smelled mold, and spayed air freshener which caused even worse. The worst part was no Wi-Fi internet service in our room. We reported the issue the first day after check-in, but no constructional answers for that. No technician came to fix it or no compensation for the inconvenience. The receptionist kept telling me that they can’t do anything because the manager was not there. And no one knew when the manager will reply the emails to address the issue due to the coming weekends. It was absolutely unacceptable no one in the building taking any responsibility to address customer’s requirement.
We were very disappointed, and won’t recommend the hotel at all.

No one should ever be given the rooms bed the swimming pool. The rooms were miserably hot and nothing was done. It was terrible and we could not sleep.

We stayed there several times in the last12 years. The hotel maintains its good quality of service and comfort.
The rooms are large, an excellent breakfast buffet, free parking, and an easy way to go to Amsterdam by public transportation (18 min). Very good restaurant on the premises. We highly recommend it!

This is a quiet hotel in a good location for sightseeing.The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable with a great walk in shower.

Bar staff were courteous. Breakfast needs to have more of a selection. Limited with fruit and cereals etc.

Staff very good but the room was smelling some pet urine… Even for an economy (last minute) room I felt it was overpriced - a bit disappointed for a VdV’s normal standard

Breaking was amazing & it was clean. Not too far from central- get there bus pass from the hotel& there’s a night bus also.

In the improvements side: not clear why the Gym cost additional fees...
In addition the reception requested full payment at the check in which was weird

The hotel was in a lovely rural location. Hotel bike rentals were inexpensive and incredibly fun. Bike trails allowed us to bike easily to several surrounding small scenic towns. The restaurant was wonderful with great food and ambiance. Our room was spacious and peaceful. We would definitely stay there again if the opportunity arose in our travels.

A very comfortable room and excellent dinners. The bus stop opposite the hotel and a frequent bus service made this hotel and ideal place to stay.
We thought breakfast a little expensive and would have preferred to be able to just have a cheaper continental breakfast.
