This hotel just surprised with all the sweet little touches and details that had been missing in my Palermo stay last week. The reception staff are incredibly friendly & helpful, the welcome cookies & note, the luxurious glass selection in the room, the night sensor lights, the large bathroom and quality linens. It was a dream stay. I couldn't recommend it more.
Great location in the midst of Salamanca. The rooms are stylish and efficient - dinner was delicious in their restaurant and everyone was friendly. Definitely would stay again.
This is a very posh hotel in a very posh neighborhood (Salamanca), but is never ostentatious nor does it have an attitude problem. Everything simply works. The staff are extremely friendly and efficient. The room was adequate sized, and the bathroom is huge. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfasts, a la carte, are extremely high quality. Room service was amazingly quick. Will definitely stay here again.
Lovely place with a wonderful staff. The front desk was great. There was one guy I really liked but his name is escaping me now. He was so fun and helpful. My husband was sick and he wanted to help get him what he needed. He suggested places for me to see alone for the day. All great recommendations! The room was a little small but adequate and no view but the location is awesome! We are not hanging out in the room anyhow. The hotel overall is really gorgeous but again, the staff made it so special!
Beautiful hotel and well organized. We love the location of the hotel. The standard hotel room is very small and dark. We also enjoyed the restaurant. Breakfast was wonderful and the dinner at night met our expectations.
Great location
Very nice hotel !
Such a stylish hotel - I loved it and would definitely stay there again! The bathroom was really spacious, which we appreciated. The gym is very nicely equipped - with some cardio equipment but also nice set of free weights to build out a great workout! Staff were very pleasant.
We did not have a good check-in experience. The lady who assisted us told us that my 3 year old counts as an adult and so they would charge us an extra 77euros a night, despite not being able offer us a cot/bed, and never mind that he sleeps in our bed anyhow while we travel. After being annoyed, she told us that they won't be charging us
Very pleasant surprise in Madrid. This hotel is amazing, nice and very helpful staff, quite big rooms, top clean, modern, and elegant. Nothing negative to say.
Breakfast à la carte, reasonable price, great quality.
The reception team was extremely helpful in helping me sort out some luggage problems.
I 100% recommend the Totem, it will be my new place to stay when visiting Madrid.
Muy bueno y acogedor
Lovely hotel in an excellent location
Amazing
Good
Very comfortable room, excellent service and very friendly.
This was recommended by friends and they were right. A beautiful hotel, in Salamanca. Great neighborhood for shopping, dining and easy walk to many of Madrid's sights. We had a drink every night in the cool lounge/bar, breakfast in their charming dining room. Room was very nice, comfortable beds. Upon arrival we were greeted with a lovely bottle of wine and pastries. The front desk staff was professional and well informed. Special shout out to Javier, the concierge, for his dining recommendations. I would definitely stay here again.
The hotel is very well located in a nice street and neighborhood. The hotel is modern and classy and staff were very helpful and very attentive.
one elevator was not functioning but besides that, we had a great stay.
Other hotels in Madrid offer better stay for the same money.
I have visited Madrid several times and usually stay at The Principal. I decided on Hotel Totem for this trip based on its reviews and new-to-me Salamanca location. The location is indeed great, just around the corner from Mercado de la Paz, in the middle of endless high-end shopping and restaurants, close to the Museo Arqueológico Nacional and an easy 15-minute walk from the Prado.
On check-in, I was offered a “better room” for “just 30 Euro more per night”. I was sold that this was a much more sizable and pleasant room with more outside light coming in from the street-front location. I unfortunately elected the upgrade. I was kept awake through each night due to the loud street noises late into the night and street lighting that I could not get the blackout curtains to close out. When I complained to the front desk, I was told they would “make a note of it”. The room itself was clean, but small and spare. I was traveling solo and cannot imagine how cramped this would feel for a couple. Room noises from adjacent rooms were apparent. The bathroom had a slow-draining shower that caused water to spill under the glass doors and cover half the bathroom floor by the end of my short showers necessitating me to cover the floor in towels so I would not slip on the wet tile.
I elected daily breakfast. I do not drink coffee. Tea was a huge disappointment. Despite my asking each day for “very, very hot water” I was brought a pot of lukewarm water which would not steep. The tea itself is of inferior quality, dismaying for a high-end hotel. You would think the hotel gets lots of British travelers so this would not be an issue. Food was equally disappointing. I ordered an omelet with cheese and onions two days in a row. The first day I received an omelet with tomatoes. The second day I got an omelet with chunks of uncooked cheese and onions inside a runny, uncooked center.
Turndown is exactly as others have described. Upon opening the door, I was not asked if I wanted turndown service or whether I needed fresh towels or to have my trash emptied. Rather, I was just abruptly handed a bottle of water and told to have a good night.
I was overall disappointed and will not stay here again. I expect my overall negative review will receive a defensive response from management as others who have complained have received. I urge readers to consider what this says about where the guest falls in the hotel's hierarchy of whom to please.
