A perfect French stopover in a quirkily Brit-themed hotel!
Pros:

Everything was lovely and the staff extremely friendly and helpful. The location is perfect for enjoying the heart of Saumur, which is a beautiful historic town and a real gem. The quirky 'boutique' decor doesn't overwhelm - it's clever how they've taken a venerable landmark and breathed new life into it. Beds v comfortable. Wish we could have stayed longer. Don't miss walking on the nearby Cessart bridge to see the gorgeous view of the castle and old town, reflected in the Loire. And read the incredible WWII story of the Battle of Saumur (Wikipedia).

Cons:

At 14 euros each the breakfast seems overpriced (but it was excellent), as is common in hotels everywhere now. You do have options as there are cafes nearby, and a small Carrefour supermarket on the parallel street. 10 euros for overnight secure parking is probably fair; we were travelling in two cars, and managed to find a cheaper space and charger nearby for one of them. Probably wouldn't manage that at the height of the season, and the hotel's secure parking is only half a dozen spaces; remember this is a city-centre hotel in a place which can't develop multistoreys by its nature, and plan/book ahead.

Great location, clean, nice breakfast and good value for money. I loved all the British trimmings!
Pros:

The Originals provides a very nice breakfast, in the middle of the heatwave the room was lovely cool and the hotel is in a great location. The staff member who checked us in (Gaspard?) was very helpful directing us to the best to view to see the partial eclipse. Observing the eclipse from the castle was one of the main highlights of our trip.

Cons:

The bathroom was a little small but it wasn’t a problem for us.
