The staff were welcoming, helpful and friendly. Good location for visiting the area and near other places to eat.
The room was spacious but not cleaned to an acceptable level as there was mould and soap scum in the bathroom which obviously had formed because the bathroom had not been thoroughly cleaned for months. The cooked breakfast was cold, dried out and rubbery and had obviously been sat in a heated cabinet for quite a while, so was obviously not freshly cooked. (eg. the fried egg was solid like rubber). The evening meal was not much better, the meat was tough in my partners meal and the pasta on my meal was rubbery and the bolognaise was tasteless. We have NEVER had such horrible meals at a hotel. There were also damage to furnishings that had not been dealt with properly - a cupboard door had just been reversed to hide the damage and a piece of metal was sticking out of a chair arm.
Friendly staff, spacious room, reasonable rate.
Restaurant was a little cold, not permitted to use pool during an aqua aerobics class.
Nice view of golf course.

Good location for our travel plans
Minor things - grout in bathroom needs replaced/cleaned! Cup at breakfast was dirty.
The location was good and the views from the room
The room was very dirty and dated
Excellent value for money, friendly and helpful staff and good facilities.
Requires money spending on it to bring the rooms up to a decent standard.
Thank you MacDonald Hill Valley for a great golf trip. From the start of the day staff ( Helen) were so accommodating and professional making us feel at home! Even with a mix up with some of the party turning up late for the golf, this was no problem for Helen and the staff in the golf shop!
The course is playing really well considering rainfall and draining effectively! We all bought buggies (the only downside to the trip imo as these were priced at £40 which I think is a little expensive considering they are electric! *) ***
The spa facilities were great, clean and helped us relax on our stay.
Dinner. We ate from a set menu which is usual for golf parties. Our host, Jenny, a top professional and overall lovely human! The set menu was lovely food, great timing between courses and Jenny and her staff worked hard to ensure that we had an amazing meal time. Through good banter and laughs we were easiest to the bar area where we enjoyed the rest of our night.
Thank you Jenny , Helen and staff from the lads from Liverpool ♥️⛳️
The room was great and the location lovely.
Facilities outstanding, beautiful location.
Food a little pricey but was excellent.
Long read…. It all started so well when I booked my exclusive spa day 6 weeks ago….. I phoned the spa at the time and was given a 2pm slot for my 2 x 25 minute treatments, opting for a back massage and facial. I also mentioned it was my birthday and was told they might be able to arrange an extra treat. My expectations were raised 😊 my big day arrived and I received a phone call at 11.15 informing me I was late for my 11am treatment. Feeling confused I explained I had booked my treatments for 2pm so that I could enjoy the facilities first. Apparently they had no reference of a 2pm booking but after a 20 mins wait managed to book me in for 1.30. I wouldn’t have as long as I hoped but not far off my original booking. The grounds and driveway are lovely as you approach the hotel and I made my way to the spa reception to complete the forms and collect my towel, robe and flip flops. 1st impressions were very good, things are looking up I thought. I made use of the pool area including the sauna and steam room-there isn’t a jacuzzi and headed to the relaxation area to await my treatments - dim lighting and calming music. It was quite busy but I managed to find a lounger. At 1.31 precisely a lady came through and called my name and led me through to another dimly lit room. She told me her name and asked me to lie on the bed facedown whilst she left the room for a couple of minutes. I got myself ready and was disappointed that the bed wasn’t heated and there was no calming music but nevertheless I looked forward to my treatments. She came back into the room and for want of a better description‘got on with the job’. There was no conversation (at all) just very functional and mechanical. When I’d completed the forms earlier I’d ticked a medium massage, what I got was most definitely firm verging on ‘ouch’ at times. Definitely not a relaxing back massage, lots of fast, firm strokes, very matter of fact with no relaxing music to zone out to just lots of deep breaths and a few stifled yawns to listen to. After 25 minutes of no communication I was told to lie on my front. I assumed (correctly) that it was time for my facial. Again I would describe it as functional at best. At one point I assume cotton pads were put on my eyes and then a hot flannel and I just lay there in silence thinking ‘what next’. It would have been nice to have been told ‘I’m just going to leave this on for a couple of mins and let you relax’. The pads were removed, a few more noisy pumping of various creams and lotions and then I was told that she was going to leave me alone for a couple of mins to get ready to leave. Must be over I thought! Was it a relaxing experience? No. Would I go back? No. Would I recommend? No. Did I get my surprise birthday treat? No. Looking forward to getting home and celebrating with my husband and 2 teenagers 🤣
