Wow! Absolutely stunning. 1 night just isn’t enough. My husband & I had an impulse night away here and was in a Club cell room. Just wow absolutely beautiful. Within an hour a cushion came flying out of the window seat across our room. Both of us during the night at different intervals felt something touching our left leg. While the other was asleep.
The staff was absolutely amazing and so welcoming. The young chap on the bar also lovely chap and really enjoyed our chat.
Even all the other guests in passing all lovely people. Overall definitely a 10/10. Thank you all and look forward to coming back for hopefully longer next time.
.
Firstly, the castle was absolutely stunning. We stayed in the cell room which was beautiful and very comfortable. The staff were the kinsdest and most accommodating. Cleaniness too was outstanding. The restaurant bar and food was a 10/10 and again the staff were brilliant.
If i had any criticism at all, it would be for main shower to also have a small shower head in addition to the big one, in order to be able to move about and use comfortably t3
Staff were outstanding, professional and welcoming both on reception and in the bar. Made a real difference.
The constant upsell emails before we arrived. One I can accept but 3 was too much and puts me off booking again. Sounds simple but just don't bombard customers who have already committed to stay.
I booked very last minute for a Sunday night. I was upgraded (I think?) into one of the governor's rooms, which was a delight - lovely and well equipped sitting room with large TV, nice leather ottoman and very loungeable sofas! The bedroom itself, down a couple of steps, was very comfy and the bathroom was excellent. It was all well-appointed, pleasant, good quality bed linen, duvet and pilllows, and the desk was comfortable to work at.
I had supper in the restaurant which was very nice.
Staff were pleasant and helpful e.g. kindly bringing Earl Grey teabags up to my room (why do hotels only ever put English Breakfast in rooms?!). I din't have breakfast so can't comment on that.
It's great location, close to The Westgate Centre. Very convenient for all of Oxford's attractions.
Overall it's a fun place to be. Fascinating architecture, interestingly converted into a hotel. I'd definitely go back.
A few small niggles:
- most importantly, the room was quite cold and there were no instructions on. how to fix it or obvious thermostat penal. I eventually worked out how to turn on the radiator in the bedroom area which warmed up nicely, but there was nothing in the sitting room area to turn on. One dial on the wall did something but had no instructions and I think was actually aircon - the opposite of what I wanted. Instructions would have helped.
- The lighting on the desk wasn't brilliant. Hotels are so often so dark. This wasn't as bad as some, but a brighter desk lamp would have been greatly appreciated
Neither of these were enough to spoil my stay in what is an excellent hotel
The hotel is simply stunning . Very hight quality.
You just have to go staff are so helpful and the breakfast is beautiful.
Quirky
Rooms are big but not very comfortable (partly given heritage
The location and staff
The noise. They have a conference room in the middle of the accommodation. The room was used for a party which had a DJ in the evening. The staff did try to mitigate the disruption but it was still unpleasant.
Quirky and historical
The friendly and welcoming staff. The general presentation of the room. The bathroom and shower facilities were very good. The originality of the location decor etc. Breakfast kipper was delicious. A most enjoyable stay.
We were more than happy with our accommodation, room 110. We were up graded which was a pleasant surprise.
Çok temizdi. Her şey çok güzeldi
Asansörün biri bozuktu ve çok yavaştı.
It’s quirkiness as an old prison.
Hotel rooms poorly lit
The property offers a unique experience with it being a historical prison. The rooms were lovely with everything you need but still with features from its history. The staff were brilliant and friendly and the location was perfect short walk to the centre.
Overall it was great but one thing notice was perhaps just some spots missed on cleaning, bed side tables seem slightly dusty. But this was a minor issue.
Quirky, luxury, clean
Badly signposted to get to hotel and within for breakfast room etc. Not told at check in, had to ask
Location was great with everything within walking distance. Breakfast was very good
Originele locatie in een oude gevangenis. Knusse kamer. Vriendelijk personeel.
De badkamer was niet optimaal schoongemaakt
