De Moda Boutiques

I stayed here for 12 nights, from 21st jan - 2 February 2025.
I travel solo a lot, so I like these smaller boutique style hotels. Here I was instantly made to feel like part of the family by the wonderful staff. There was always someone around and i felt completely safe. They can organise your very comfortable transport from columbo airport. I would absolutely recommend this. Just email them prior to your arrival with any requests. They can give you their WhatsApp number.

The room: I had the perfect sea view, sunrise and sunset, so I enjoyed the terrace a lot, it was very spacious. Always saw so much wildlife around here too as there are many colourful birds in Sri Lanka, like kingfishers and the cheeky chip monks. The bed was super big and comfy as were the pillows. Plenty of space to put things away if staying for a few nights like me. Great lighting. Plenty of electric sockets. A hair dryer. A kettle and tea/coffee etc. a mini fridge. Aircon worked well. Wifi worked well. The shower was awesome with its different options of water delivery - im going to invest in one of these in my own home! You get use of a beach towel. There is a lift or stairs. A safe is also available.

Breakfast:
I looked forward to my daily breakfast, always served with kindness and a big smile. Consisted of a tasty fruit plate (the mangoes were yummy), eggs, sausages and bread with butter and jam and a tasty juice with tea/coffee. I enjoyed looking out at the pool while having breakfast and one morning I got to see the local kingfisher take his bath! Priceless.

Location:
You can’t really swim in the very local seafront, but you can take a lovely walk along the path. I often walked along both ways goin left to get to Galle fort. It’s a nice walk. The property is very near the turtle Sanctuary so I visited here, no need to book just turn up. Take a walk turn right on the main road, over the bridge and look for sign. 2,000 lkr entrance fee and you get 20 mins with a talk and look around. The turtles are well cared for and the money helps them.
You have many ATM s to choose from. A couple of walkable larger supermarkets in the area. Spar is a bit further and near the fort. There is a train station up near the fort. You can take buses or tuk tuks. I liked to take a tuk tuk to visit the different beach areas. Hikkadawa, jungle beach and unuwatuna were easy to get to by tuk tuk. You can walk to the fort and this is great for a walk around, shopping and restaurants. Bring dog/ cat biscuits and you’ll find many furbaby friends.

Other:
I organised my trip to yala safari with the hotel staff and also visited Ella, fabulous day out. Just ask them and they will help you with what you need. I also had a flu virus while I was there and they looked after me, to make sure I was ok. I will always appreciate this. Thank you.

Great staff who were always helpful. THe pool was lovely after a hot day out. The breakfast was good, especially the fruit. Great rooftop to watch the sunset!

It’s not ‘in’ the Fort but gee it’s a great place to stay. The staff, the ambience, and the pool make this such a lovely place to stay. It’s about 300 rupees to the fort in a Tuk-Tuk and the staff will assist in this. It’s a kind and gentle place to stay. We also love the breakfast.

This is a rather new hotel. The rooms are spacious and it has a swimming pool that is in the shade in the afternoon which is a plus if you burn easily. We were lucky that we were the only guests except for the last night. The staff was extremely friendly and made sure we were safe and well taken care of. The only drawback is the internet that while being reliable was not very fast at 4 Mbps. The breakfast is fairly basic. Overall a great choice. You can walk to the fort which has tons of Western restaurants.

I had booked this place for two nights, today ie the 5th and tomorrow ie 6th of Jan 2024. By no stretch of imagination does this hotel deserve any stars. Allow me to elucidate:
1) They have no staff, I mean other than the one or two guys roaming aimlessly and alternating between being a porter/ receptionist/ manager. So I am not clear who did the other people writing these flowery reviews meet. Infact there are no guests as well. The staff was surprised to see us, When we asked how many guests are staying they said one more, later we realised even that was a lie. And mind you this is peak season in Sri Lanka.
2) There is no pool, the one they show on the promos is photoshopped. What they have is a piss pond. I dare anyone to take a plunge.
3) No security, since they have no dining facilities we ordered food on Uber eats. The Uber guy could not deliver as he could not find anyone in the hotel, and this was at about 2 o'clock or thereabouts. The rooms can be accessed by anyone anytime. You are on your own.
4. The hotel is actually in the middle of nowhere. The only advantage is Galle being a small town nothing is too far. The hotel is located in the outskirts and is as outskirts as outskirts go.
5. This place can't be fixed ideally the place should be mowed down at the earliest. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

The worst property. We made a booking with them, reached the hotel and they said there is no such booking. You pay is extra and then we will make the booking.
Till date my money is with them and they haven’t refunded us back.

We received delicious fresh welcome fruit drink on arrival and was warmly greeted by Shaad. He and his colleagues were always willing to help and offer advise, such as how much is resonable price to pay for tuk tuk into town and the old fort. The room, bathroom, and balcony were clean enough and the shower is very modern with all sorts of settings, including fancy tropical side-spray shower! Only filtered water was available so we had to buy bottled mineral water for my pregnant wife but otherwise this hotel has all that you need for a few nights stay. Our booking was for three nights. Breakfast was a delicious large plate of fresh cut fruit and choice of cooked eggs, plus fresh coffee

We received a warm welcome from Sajee and Shad at De Moda when we turned up on their doorstep late on a dark evening with no reservation. My sister and I (both in our sixties) had been stranded and let down by Expedia. The hotel they had sent us to had been closed for months.
All of the staff bent over backwards to ensure that we enjoyed our stay and took us all over Galle showing us all the local attractions. No request of ours was left unheeded. We felt very comfortable, safe and relaxed as if we were part of the family.
The bedrooms were attractive and the beds extremely comfortable. The roof top was delightful offering 360 degree panoramic views of the beach and a birds eye view of the local area. The luscious fruit drinks provided were varied and beautifully fresh, as were the breakfasts.
We both would thoroughly recommend this hotel and both of us would gladly return.

The couple of days that I stayed at in the de moda hotel was literally the best vacation that I have spent in my life in a hotel . I would give this hotel a 5 star rating because , we were treated so well by Mr. Lakshman and the team and also the facilities provided by Mr. Sajith was exceptional , that all made our stay feel homely

One of the best stays we had in galle. We were warmly welcomed by the staff. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly towards us. Hotel atmosphere was great That it really felt like home.Everything was neatly arranged and cleanliness was at hire range. Close to the beach hence you will see beautiful scenery from your room itself. We would like to thank all the staff for the great hospitality provided to us during our stay!!

This is a very nice place. it’s clean, friendly and helpful staff. The staff was helping us a lot, driving us to Galle fort and to our next destination. Nothing to complain about! We loved this place!

Very nice, brand new hotel. Very good wifi and television. Little far from town, but plenty of tuk-tuks just outside the hotel and pretty cheap (300 to 400 rupees) to the old town. Very good value and staff were fabulous.Turtle rescue and hatchery very nearby.

New and cool Location! A Place to be! We had a 2 night stay and enjoyed this time. Cool roof top, clean Room and friendly people. Fort Galle is really close, just 5 Minutes by Tuk-Tuk. It was a good Time, many thanks.

Highly recommended hotel. The location is close to the railway station if you’re coming to Galle by train, and about 2 km from the Galle Fort, which you can get to on foot, or by tuktuk. The hotel is modern, and the rooms are spacious. The hosts were amazing. The breakfast is prepared by the hosts on the spot, and it’s really good. The pool is cute, not huge but you can chill on the inflatable mattress. The rooftop with the view of the beach at sunset is not to be missed. Great job.

We stayed one night at De Mode, we loved the room and wanted to extend our stay unfortunately it was fully book the next day but we really enjoyed.
Clean room, friendly staff, great service.

Customer service, food, style, cleanliness, helpfulness, views, location etc etc. Brilliant, fantastic and as many other positive words that you can think of. I would happily stay here again. Cheap also for what you get.

Had a great time at Brand new property. Clean rooms, fantastic rooftop and excellent service. The owner Saji himself taking a greater care of his guests. Offered an extended care with a free boat trip and facilitated a roof top BBQ..

The food was awesome. Breakfast was unique and i haven't experience such Sri Lankan flavor, taste and mix anywhere else.

Visited this hotel as part of the family trip. Very clean hotel. Really helpful and friendly staff. They provided tremendous support for our BBQ.Had a great breakfast with fresh Juice. Hotel Room Was very nice, clean & excellent arrangement. Also appreciate the owner Mr.Saji who has provided all the hospitality & specially free boat ride for our kids.

I've been there before when the constructions began, it's such a lovely place with a stunning view and now it's finally achieving its goals. Can't wait to be back and spend some time there. Wishing you good luck!
