Very disappointing experience at Oaks Shore Hotel, Queenstown.
We are staying in Room 305A for three nights, and from the moment we checked in there has been a strong sewage smell in both the room and the lobby area. We reported this issue at check-in and again on the following days, but absolutely nothing was done to resolve it.
On 6 March around 10:00 PM, the girl on duty at reception clearly told us that she could not do anything about the smell, despite repeated complaints. This kind of response from hotel staff is completely unacceptable.
To make matters worse, a group of boys were creating loud noise around midnight, disturbing everyone’s sleep. When we complained about the noise, the reception staff again said they could not do anything.
For a hotel that claims to provide comfortable accommodation, the lack of basic hygiene, poor management of guest disturbances, and complete lack of support from reception is shocking.
Three nights in a room with a sewage smell and sleepless nights because of noise, with staff refusing to take responsibility.
Absolutely unacceptable. Big no to this hotel.
location great
going through the car park to get to your room and reception area too steep to get to especially for older people / disabled
staff need to be more knowledgeable about the bus and generally what’s available in the area ie. storing luggage ect
kitchen tea bags not replacement and no hot chocolate/biscuits/no shower cap/ toilet paper needs to be 3 ply!!
Reception staff were friendly and welcoming. Bus shuttle was very handy to get into CBD.
Extended hours for shuttle bus would be good. For a hotel costing this much I would expect some premium channels to be availabel on the TV.
Beautiful views from our window. Microwave if you wanted one clean comfortable room. There was building work going on but this didn’t impact our stay at all. No noise or mess.
Free bus to get in and out of Queenstown which you before hang but is easy to do.
Otherwise bus stops on the main road are useful.
Very limited parking you need book it early.
No wardrobe/ iron/ironing board (reception were able to bring us an iron and ironing board)
Small balcony but so small you couldn’t use it apart from bridge staring on while to door is open.
It had a bed and electricity.
Where to start? Location was horrible to enter and leave. Parking was $15 a day. Free shuttle had limited hours. Our bathroom FAN never worked for our entire 3 day stay. The TV didn’t work and every time maintenance came they suggested we use Chrome cast. Unfortunately, Chrome casting ALSO never worked! On the 2nd day when we returned in the afternoon, there was a simply awful sewage smell in the hallway! I called reception staff and they said it was ‘the council’s fault due to the ongoing maintenance’? When maintenance arrived to once again address tv and bathroom fan issues, they said the sewage smell was all over the building due to the smell being outside. I showed him that our balcony door was open and there was NO SMELL coming from outside. The smell was in the hallway! It was absolutely disgusting to even open your door to go outside!
Housekeeping came late in the afternoons AND, we were threatened with a $350 fine if we didn’t TAKE OUT OUR OWN TRASH WHEN WE CHECKED OUT! You know, to help THEM ‘tidy up’ at the end and our stay. After the 3rd day of no bathroom ventilation OR working TV I requested a reduction in our bill. Over $1,000 for a 3 day stay in a ‘room with a bed & electricity’! When I went to turn in our keys, I was informed that all we owed was $45 for 3 days parking. After a big of haggling, I was able to find our credit card charge that PROVED we pd for parking when we checked in. Oh, okay! OMG!!! Never stay at this overpriced hotel that doesn’t provide even a toaster or packets of hot chocolate! Just cheap for no reason!

There was significant construction works going on that we were unaware of that made the stay slightly uncomfortable. Checkin was delayed by 2 hours because the room wasn’t ready - we were offered one free breakfast due to this, however the breakfast offered was not good, we were told they hadn’t put on a full breakfast due to low numbers. The shower attachments had significant leaks, and the location is extremely tricky to drive in and out of.
I recently had the pleasure of staying at Oaks Queenstown Shores Resort, and it was nothing short of magical—especially for a romantic getaway!
From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the breathtaking views of Lake Wakatipu. Waking up in our luxurious king bed and stepping onto the balcony to soak in the stunning scenery was an unforgettable experience. The panoramic lake views are simply spectacular and make every morning feel like a dream.
The room was exceptionally well-appointed, featuring a fully equipped kitchen that made it easy for us to whip up breakfast together. After enjoying our meals, we took advantage of the heated floors, which were a delightful touch in the chilly mountain air.
When it came to relaxation, we couldn’t have asked for more. The gas fireplace created a cozy ambiance, making our evenings warm and inviting. Coupled with the electric heating, we felt completely at ease during our stay.
Oaks Queenstown Shores Resort has truly thought of everything, providing all the amenities we needed, including Sky TV, so we could unwind without any distractions. This was a perfect spot for couples looking to escape and enjoy quality time together.
In summary, if you're seeking a romantic retreat with unforgettable views and luxurious comfort, Oaks Queenstown Shores Resort is an unbeatable choice. We can’t wait to return!
Beautiful apartment with stunning view of the lake. Staff were excellent and went out of their way to assist.
The dining room was closed due to insufficient staff and this made it hard when it is 10 drive minutes from town.
Also, it was a bit of a walk each day up to reception given the renovations.
