We found El Faro purely by chance as we were not at all happy with the hotel we were staying at nearby. As soon as we entered the reception area, there was an immediate sense of calm and serenity. We had a sea view room which directly over the bay . The use of the rocks for swimming and, sunbathing or just relaxing and very imaginative. There were so many nooks and crannies to find your own secluded spot.
the staff were excellent. we stayed 4 nights and were completely refreshed and rested. wonderful location, albeit a little remote, but that suited us.
if there was anything slightly niggly was the charge for fresh orange juice at breakfast, wchih for the level of hotel and being in Italy, was slightly bonkers, as it also reinforced that juice on the buffet was not fresh. Plus the small extra charges for certain cooked items. we would also agree with another reviewer 8pm is a little late for the dining room to open. I think most of the other guests thought the same.
But these were all very small issues and did not detract from our stay
Excellent stay for five nights. Great staff. Very nice room with terrace. Food was very good, although gluten-free options were limited. Great location. Excellent massage. Wonderful lounge area overlooking the sea and nice place to swim in the sea. Nice pool. Lots of hiking, horseback riding, and things to see nearby, including Neptune’s Grotto.
First of all, the service team here are absolutely fantastic
Everyone from the restaurant staff to the maids. Wonderful.
The hotel is also in the most amazing position for walks and Neptune Grotto.
It’s also West facing so you get the sunset and the Sun all the way through to the very end, which is very important to me
We stayed here for eight nights, which is definitely too long, but I wanted to make sure we had as many nights as possible at the end of the season in the Sun
Look, I’ve gotta talk about the food
Breakfast is good. Just not as good as the other two hotels we stayed at this trip.
The bowls and glasses and cups are the smallest I’ve ever known. Annoyingly small.
The orange juice is not a good concentrate
The only eggs are scrambled, and if you want, for example, a poached egg you have to pay extra
Which is okay, but this is a four star hotel for which we pay a lot of money.
And now on to dinner.
My partner and myself are vegetarian and non-vegetarian
There is absolutely no buffet situation here so it is a set menu
There is nightly variety in the set menu and there are vegetarian options every night
It’s just not quite as good as the other hotels we’ve stayed at here in Sardinia
Also as a slightly personal note for me being a boring British person, the dining room doesn’t open until 8 pm
Even in October
I would be more than happy for you to open at 7 pm
And I am definitely not the only one!
There is no beach here at the hotel, lots of, and I mean lots of places to sunbathe around the limestone hills in the hotel property
But absolutely no sand whatsoever
They are sandy beaches, but they are a 10 minute drive away. You definitely need a car if you’re going to stay here without a doubt.
This is a remote location, with an amazing totally amazing views across the ocean and the mountains and the hills
Highly recommended, and this is without a doubt the best hotel in the area
This hotel is located in a beautiful area. The water view us spectacular! The room was very basic but clean though. It has a nice area where you can get into the water and swim in the ocean.
Breakfast was ok. We didn't like dinner at all. Go to Alghero 20 minutes away and find countless little quaint restaurants.
We booked panarama and sea view room. Room was clean and well kept (605). The sliding bathroom door was very noisy to open or close due (possibly needed grease or oil?). We would stay at this property if returning to Cagliari.
Oh my oh my!! This was our 6th hotel in Sardinia and the very best by far!!! The room was spacious, the staff was gracious and the location superb!! Treat yourself and stay here!!!
We didn’t use the spa but everything else was fantastic. We loved the property and the staff were friendly, polite and helpful- very professional.
Liked the location on the sea with views. Didn’t like the extra costs for spa and no hot drink facilities in the room
We loved our stay at the El Faro Hotel! The view from our terrace was stunning! The room was spacious, clean and well thought out. The staff was great. Everyone was pleasant, helpful and professional. Highly recommend this property to my friends and family!
We absolutely loved the location. Stunning view and very nice facilities. We only wish we had arrived earlier so we could enjoy it for longer.
The view was excellent
We have been visiting El Faro for three consecutive summers, staying for an average of 10 days each year. What has always drawn us back is the stunning natural beauty surrounding the hotel, the crystal-clear sea waters, and—above all—the privacy and quietness this place offers.
The front office team has been consistently professional, welcoming, and attentive, making each arrival and departure smooth and pleasant. The maintenance team impressed us by immediately addressing issues—such as fixing our flooded bathroom twice—without delay. Housekeeping kept the property perfectly clean throughout our stay. The lifeguard was exceptionally polite, always smiling, and added to the feeling of safety and comfort. These teams embody the standards of true hospitality and deserve high praise.
Unfortunately, our experience with the Food & Beverage department this summer has been deeply disappointing, entirely due to the F&B manager’s approach. Almost every small request was met with a “no,” and there were repeated, significant delays in service, particularly during lunch. Most concerning was the manager’s refusal to take responsibility for any shortcomings. Whenever we raised an issue, there was never acknowledgment—only deflection, whether blaming hotel policy, suggesting we had misunderstood, or implying unrealistic expectations.
As someone with a hospitality background, I know that mistakes can happen. What matters is acknowledging them, making the guest feel respected, and taking steps to make things right. The F&B manager demonstrated none of these qualities, and this negatively affected the entire dining experience.
I do want to highlight that some of her team members, were excellent—professional, courteous, and a pleasure to interact with. They are clear examples of the service standards that should define the entire department.
El Faro remains a beautiful destination, but the F&B leadership urgently needs to align with the values of true hospitality to match the excellence shown by the rest of the hotel team.
Fabulous hotel! Gorgeous area and staff was incredible.
It’s a nice place in a lovely area, the room was very good. Front desk staff and cleaners were great, but at breakfast it was tricky to get a coffee promptly. they should put nespresso machines in the rooms really. Gererally my main issue is with the restaurants, overpriced and mediocre food. very useful to have a car to allow going elsewhere. so we had a great time and its a place I would consider staying again, but I cannot give five stars because of the restaurants.
No coffee in a the room
We loved the seclusion of this genteel sea front hotel. Rooms were immaculately clean with beautiful sea views.
With regard to the beach/sea, we prefer private rocky coves with clear water over crowded sandy beaches and El Faro delivered! There were always plenty of loungers and shady spots if you wanted to get out of the sun. The entrance to the sea could be difficult for small children or those with mobility issues, but there are two swimming pools.
Outstanding service at every level. Compliments to the staff and their professionalism.
The breakfast buffet was ample and some additional items were available for a modest fee. The only complaint we have was the horrible coffee. We tried ordering espresso and cappuccino, but they were just as bad as the American coffee. Finally we resorted to hot tea, but the water was never really hot enough. A small thing to some, but for those of us who can’t wait for that first sip of a good hot cup of coffee in the morning, it was disappointing.
We ate two lunches and several dinners at the hotel and were pleased with everything we ordered. One evening we drove into Alghero for dinner, but traffic, parking and the town were a circus. We quickly realized that we preferred to stay at the resort to enjoy a good, relaxing meal with great service and a stunning view.
We had a lovely time and would definitely recommend and return.
Amazing pool, great property, travelled with young kids so felt a little on edge to ensure kids
We had a great stay. It’s super peaceful and the views are amazing. The food is great too. The only pitfall is that things are advertised in their pictures but are not included, like the spa. They have so many photos of the sauna and steam but they cost.
Great time over there
This was a great hotel only problem was they close there pool at 7 pm.
