Professional property host/manager
We stayed at this wonderful hotel in April. It was very clean, beautifully maintained and the staff went above and beyond, every single one of them made us feel welcomed and just couldn’t do enough. A huge thank you to Jose (manager) who looked after us so well. We only had breakfast but it was more than enough and had everything I would choose from a 5 star hotel and was replenished frequently. Beach was steps away and so had a nice gentle breeze. Our room was so spacious and even had a fridge which was appreciated. This is one of the best hotels in the area, the atmosphere was so relaxed that we can’t wait to book again. Thank you so much.
.
where do I start the lift was broken and didn't stop on our floor receptionist came over and pressed floor above and indicated carry cases down a flight of stairs and depart from that wasn't interested got to room which I can only describe as a cupboard so small with no room to be comfortable lighting poor and nothing up at windows except for a curtain onto the street so everyone can see in. When I booked it said bed and breakfast on site when I arrived got told no breakfast. can't wait to check out
El sitio inmejorable
We arrived at night as a family of four in October 2023 half term.
As we arrived in the room the lights tripped immediately and put the room in darkness. We went back to Reception, who came up to our room and reset the electronic box trip switch. We stayed for 6 nights and the electricity continuously tripped throughout our stay, sometimes within 15 mins of the last tripping, and only with the lights on (no devices charging or hair drier on).
The beds were very hard and uncomfortable, but Reception provided a duvet to sleep on after the first night.
The bathroom was a dated brown marble, very small and leaked from the shower doors. The shower itself was powerful though.
The balcony was very small with two rusting air-con units taking up any space.
The corridor to the room had a large section of plaster removed showing blue mould
The breakfast was basic, a selection of breads, danishes, ham, cheese, scrambled egg and bacon. However, after 6 nights stay we would have preferred some variation, fresh fruit and a replacement toaster is needed (the current one is so old it took countless times to feed your bread through to get your bread brown!).
The location of this hotel is in a Spanish residential area, and too far out of the tourist resort of Torrox Costa. Very few people spoke English, even hotel staff. There was a bus stop a minute’s walk from the hotel but buses were unreliable and infrequent, this could have been to the time of year though.
Across the road from the Santa Rosa Hotel is another hotel which is full of immigrant male, Nigerian men, who loitered around the roads and the beach, which could be especially unnerving at night time.
There were only a few bars/restaurants near the hotel which were mainly filled with Spanish locals. However, MAO bar on the beach was s saviour and Plays bar was very pleasant too, with a children’s play park next door. We generally called a taxi most evenings to Torrox Costa which was full of tourist restaurants (Magon was very good), promenade and beach with umbrellas/sun beds to hire.
The local town of Nerja, a 20/25 minute bus ride away was well worth a visit, with lots of shops and restaurants and the breathtaking Balcony of Europe.
The staff at the Hotel Santa Rose were helpful and the cleanliness was excellent. A redeeming feature of this hotel is how well the rooms are cleaned everyday. Credit to the cleaning staff. Plus bathroom towels are changed daily.
Another positive is it’s location on the beach. However, there are no umbrellas or sunbeds to hire on the beach, and the sand is a dirty grey.
The hotel provides modern sun loungers in there astroturf grounds, and a small pool too but unfortunately the pool bar was shut in October, so there was no opportunity to get any refreshments, unless you went up to the bar in Reception.
The bar in Reception was pleasant in the evenings, but very quiet, some background music would be welcomed, so that everyone could not overhear your conversations.
Our feeling was that we were on holiday so would have appreciated staff to smile and be friendlier, whether they spoke English or not.
In summary, this is not a family, tourist hotel and is very dated.
just back from our 2nd trip to santa rosa... first time we had a great time this time was even better,,,, they have upgraded the back lawn to an astroturf surface on the left and added new sun loungers and shades,,, and on the right have added a 20ft approx swimming pool.... considering that the back lawn is only 30 yards from the sea.... service as usual is top class... during our time in the hotel organised 2 wedding,s on the beach beside to the hotel,,,, but it didnt interfere with the normal running of the every day guest,s..... will be back again
Arrived at hotel santa rosa welcoming staff, fantastic location with access straight onto beach through hotel garden and pool area all of which is kept immaculately clean, breakfast had a decent selection bacon wasn't cooked to my taste but was edible nice scrambled eggs and good cereals and pastries selection the only fault I would have was the lack of a fridge in the room I asked for 1 was told they don't supply so that's all I can say
Room was fine nice views from the balcony , big complaint was that there was a big noisy party downstairs by the pool just under my balcony . The hotel charged extra for this room but failed to tell me there would be a party on my last night .
And having to get up early to catch a flight .
It costs nothing to inform your guests so they have a choice to stay or not .
Just bad management !
Las vistas de la habitación son una maravilla. El personal estupendo, especialmente el del comedor
Because we live a 3 hour drive from Malaga Airport My wife and I ( we live in Spain) decided to stay just one night before our flight at the SR Santa Rosa hotel el morche(Torrox). What a lucky find it was. We were very pleasantly surprised and very good value for money. We opted for dinner B&B. The room was direct sea view, very pleasant decor if a little dated. Lovely bed and linen, great WiFi, nice bathroom with bath. The room was spotlessly clean. We decided on a drink on the pool terrace area, again a little dated and tired though the pool was small but lovely. We had to get our drinks from the reception bar, (excellent red wine at just 2€ a glass) the only downside access to pool terrace outside and down the side of the hotel. But so worth it to lounge almost directly on beach. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our meal in the evening was menu del noche style due to covid restrictions it was a limited choice but the food was delicious and the gentleman who served us and took our choices from buffet was really nice. We ordered a bottle of red at just 12€ a bottle great quality and to top it off we sat on the outer terrace directly overlooking the sea. We both had a good nights sleep and because we were leaving before breakfast serving times they kindly handed us a bag if breakfast goodies to take with us. All in all we had a much needed relaxing night and with hotel only 35-40 minutes from airport so much nicer option than the dreadful soul less hotel airports and much better value. We enjoyed our stay so much we booked 2 nights for our return from uk. Can’t wait!!
The hotel is right on the beach - get a room at the back of the hotel with a sea view and balcony the trip advisor standard room is at the front but we called and paid 100 euros extra (for two of us over 6 nights). The beach is fine and the hotel is near the extreme end so mainly properties nearby and not much noise or "passing trade" Good air con. No fridge although there was space for one in our room, and our room had cupboard and balcony sliding doors that hardly "slid". Nice helpful staff. A good 3 star hotel.
The hotel is in an enviable situation fronting on to beach. The staff were generally very helpful, the food however was very limited. There were only a few guests and no lunch was available in the hotel. We booked a sea view through our travel agent but on the morning of departure 4 am the night porter asked for an additional payment of 80 Euros. I assume this was a scam by him as he dropped the payment wish very quickly. Be warned though.
I would say this hotel is pleseant 3 star hotel . The only thing spoilt it was my room smelt musty which very off putting . Having said that the the general cleanliness of hotel was spotless. Room was cleaned everyday breakfast buffet wasnt great . However on my last night i eat at hotel had a faboulous 3 course meal which was very pleseant . Beer responsible priced 2 euro bottle nice enjoy drink porch or balcony watch sunset, beach lovely but if want eat out restaurant next door lovely or fancy walk further up beach lots places but fair walk. General opinion fair hotel for price last nte wedding on which got to watch just unfortunately partied till 4 am so left shattered for travelling next day . Met lovely friends to nice chat with daily . Over all pleseant stay . Staff friendly both breakfast and reception .
Stayed 1 night and only 1 night thank god. Bed cover old and musky. Bed s bad. A glorified B and B. My parents also fell the same. Staff slow and rude. 0 star hotel. Stayed in a lot of places but this takes the biscuit.
Our room was good and clean. No fridge; room only. Good helpful staff. All went well until the weekend when the pool and sunbeds were taken over by a function (wedding?) so other visitors had to use the sunbeds on the beach but without any sunshades. Also had to close balcony doors because of very loud music. We were not informed that these events would happen.
great hotel right on beach seaveiw this time as thiswas our secondtime there ,,has a pool nowwhich was great for cooling down,,still no british there ,a lot of german people though which I found very nice,,would recommend it for a quite holiday on the beach,,,special thanks too susanna and mariea, and cleaners maria and her helper thanks for the kettle,,,xx
love the hotel. right on beach. nice little pool. rooms were really clean and spotless. staff were great. breakfast was ok too. we had a seaview room which was fab. n8ce spanish restaurants were only 2 minutes walk away. buses to torrox and malaga were opposite hotel too. love the whole place
Nice little hotel on the beach with helpful staff and clean rooms, perfect area without noisy nightclubs and drunk people everywhere.
Tidy beach and poolarea on the hotel. Walkway almost from the hotel in El Morje to nearby Torrox Costa straight up from the beach.
There was a wedding party on the hotel from Saturday to Sunday on our stay, did not notice any problems at all related to this, we slept all night without any noice problems.
Lovely beach behind hotel - best thing about it. 20 min walk along it to Torrox - more lively area. Photos on the internet show sun loungers and parasols on the AstroTurf garden. There were none - so check before you go as it looks like they only put them out in peak season. We asked about them and even saw parasols in boxes by the lift, but were not allowed to have one even to use on the beach. Disappointing. Also, when they do private weddings and functions, you're not allowed in the garden area!
First room we were shown was dark and dingy- asked for a change of room - ended up with a brighter sea view one. Better apart from crumbling balcony. Breakfast is fine - basic but enough and Louis works very hard. Youngest receptionist was friendly - senior one was very aloof and not as helpful.
Hotel allowed a huge mob of young people ('from the next village' the receptionist later told us) to cause havoc on the Saturday night, shouting and whistling down and across to each other across the balconies, running around the corridors drunk and loud, congregating in large groups outside our bedrooms and noises of drinking and having sex could be heard. We were awake all night and actually too intimidated to leave the room. Next morning we were not the only very tired, bleary eyed guests. We complained at reception and a man said the group were leaving that day. No real apology though and we were worn out all of the next day from lack of sleep. Would not return.
Stayed in El Morche due to my boyfriends family living near by and wasn't really sure what to expect from the town or the hotel given that there weren't many reviews.
I'll start with the negatives, breakfast is genuinely awful. I like the ease of getting up and not having to worry about it with it already being paid for, but there were a few occasions where we just went out to eat because it really was that bad/boring. They have cheese slices and some, what looks like teddy bear ham, and chorizo and then cereal and fruit but the milk isn't kept cold so it's like, lukewarm soggy stale cereal! Then some bread which just didn't really look appetising. There are lots of bars on the beach that do breakfast for less than €10 for 2 so we resorted to this a couple of times!
The rooms are basic - our balcony door and toilet door didn't actually lock, but we didn't complain because they'd put us in a sea view room which we hadn't paid for so didn't want to move. But other than that they suit their purpose - shower is good quality, you have to leave it a few minutes to heat up but it's quite refreshing if you just get in straight away! The beds were a bit uncomfortable but we think we had new mattresses and it was the classic 'double' room/2 single beds pushed together which is my pet hate!!
Rooms were clean though, and this is always most important! Staff were friendly, cleaners inc! It helped a lot that my boyfriend is bilingual so had no problems with language barriers however I wouldn't have thought their English was superb, so be prepared! TV has no English channels but a good variety of Spanish channels!
There was a wedding late at night which although was pretty and good fun to listen to music, had I been with a young family I would have been somewhat annoyed that the hotel did not warn us about the loud music into the early hours!
Transport links are excellent - Nerja is a small town about 20 mins on the bus and is absolutely stunning - less that €5 for 2 return on the Alsa buses. It is also very cheap to get to Malaga, one way being around €7 for 2 people and the stop is about a 2 minute walk from the hotel!
Overall, we did have a good stay, I just wouldn't pay for breakfast again! We would definitely return, the hotel are doing lots of outdoor improvements at the moment which look great and I would definitely recommend to a friend.
