It must be 50 years ago we first had dinner in the Kiln restaurant. In those days it was a recently opened prestigious dining opportunity in the City attached to the Dragonara Hotel.
The now Doubletree hotel by Hilton remains of very good quality and the Kiln Restaurant retains its historical place in Central Bristol as the dining room. The history of glassmaking in Bristol is personified by the base of an historic brick built “glass cone” within which diners eat today. This cone contained one of the 17th century glass kilns of the Bristol glass making industry. None other such cones exist in Bristol today.
Our dinner service this evening by Nikol was exemplary. His friendly prompt service made our visit even more enjoyable. Nikol is one of the old style waiters - eyes and ears everywhere, ensuring all diners were cared for and efficiently looked after.
The food was hot and well prepared. White table cloths and napkins were reminders of historic quality.
Well recommended - the Kiln restaurant is a business facility open Monday to Thursday evenings.
Lovely restaurant and nice staff (Nikos)
Clean, comfortable and just what we needed for a pit stop.
Nothing. It was fine.
Excellent
Nothing it was all very good
Welcome cookie was a nice touch and the staff were lovely
The TV signal was awful and all channels unwatchable- only terrestrial available.
The walls are like cardboard making it SO noisy and with doors slamming and people returning late and inebriated.
The meat on offer at breakfast looked revolting and I didn't even want to try it.
The rooms are dated and in need of repair.
Location with parking
Tv was temperamental and we could here some snoring next door
Lovely hotel with friendly, helpful staff both in reception & the bar. Room is always spotless. Also my husband loves the warm cookie's they offer at reception when booking in.
We always stay here, a few times every year, if we are going to see a band at The Fleece, which is about a 5 minute walk away.
Just a little personal thing but we have stayed here about 5 or 6 times every year for the last few years and we have never had a room with a lock on the bathroom door for some reason.
Comfortable, clean hotel.
No negative views
everything was amazing
Lovely staff, beautiful room and lovely atmosphere
Mattress was rock hard, has left me with excruciating aches and back pain which is a shame as the last room I booked there last year did not do this
Wonderful building and well presented. Gorgeous rooms and ideal location.
Should have stayed longer.
Nikos in the restaurant always remembers us and makes us feel very welcome. The food is good and the rooms are clean and spacious
The building is anonymous 1970s style and strangely laid out, with several entrances and a bit of a walk to main reception. On the plus side, it's very handy for Temple Meads station and south Bristol and paid parking is available. The rooms are reasonable, with kettle facilities but no fridge. Lots of minor negatives though, which cumulatively means I probably won't return. The a/c unit in my room (206) made a strange beeping sound every 5 minutes through the night, necessitating ear plugs. The ear plugs also helped block conversation from the next room that came straight through the wall. Service throughout wasn't Hilton grade: I had asked for a room with a nice view if possible, but there was no acknowledgement of this and the allocated room had a really poor aspect. The corridors were scattered with used room service trays and KFC Deliveroos etc, which sat outside rooms all day. I requested more teabags and milk, but only got the teabags. The Kiln restaurant where breakfast was served was the saving grace: great use of the magnificent old circular glass kiln building. Nicely laid out, plenty of space between tables, a great selection of food available and all prepared to high standards. Again though service in the restaurant let it down: ingredients weren't replaced when they ran out unless customers pointed it out and table weren't cleared as quickly as one would expect.
