Fantastic hotel and staff! You would not want to stay no where else 😊
Food was so nice and loads to chose from for the 3 course evening meal.
What an amazing time we had at Hotel La Vue d’Or in Sorrento! The staff are SO friendly and helpful, always making effort to start a conversation. We stayed half board and the food options in the evening were varied and delicious with generous portions. Breakfast buffet also fantastic (with lovely pastries). The bar has a wide selection of drinks, all reasonably priced with a good choice of cocktails and very nice local wine. The hotel itself is very clean and homely with an authentic Italian feel. The views are STUNNING; we couldn’t believe our luck when we woke up the first morning. Make use of the hourly shuttle bus, an absolute gem for a hotel up in the mountains and very reliable. Sorrento is a beautiful place to stay. Cannot recommend La Vue d’Or enough! PS look out for the beautiful donkey who hangs out behind the pool terrace!
The views of Mount Vesuvius and the surrounding area are amazing, sitting on the terrace or balcony and watching the sunset was pretty magical.
As mentioned by other reviews, we do feel like the food was lacking. We had meals out in and around Sorrento which were fantastic, but unfortunately the hotel food was a let down in comparison.
I only speak for the inclusive meals, it seemed if you weren’t half board you got to pick from a separate menu. It felt very school dinner-esque, one main meat/fish with a side of veg/potatoes. It felt like there was a lack of care and attention at times, for example one night we ordered potato soufflé which came with a side of potatoes?
The room was clean with great views and the shower was good - the only things we missed was having a full length mirror and tea/coffee making facilities. The hotel does feel a little dated in parts, whether you consider this charming or requiring modernisation is down to personal preference I guess.
The free shuttle was very useful for getting down to Sorrento, although one day we did have to stand because it was so busy (it stops at a few hotels) - just something to bear in mind.
The pool is also unheated so something to keep in mind if you’re going later in the season, as the water was very cold when we were there.
Being out of the centre of Sorrento does mean you are more reliant on the food offered by the hotel, which unfortunately wasn’t great. If you’re happy travelling into Sorrento to eat and want to prioritise peace and views over convenience, then I think this hotel would be a good choice.
When we arrived we were unsure this hotel was for us, due to it's location from the centre of Sorrento & the fact there is nowhere to walk nearby. How wrong we were. After using the reliable shuttlebus down to Sorrento & spending time there, we soon realised we were in the right place.
Sorrento centre is seriously busy & only suited us for a few hours at a time, then back to the peace & quiet of the hotel.
From the minute we arrived, the staff were amazing, polite & very helpful.
Everyone had a smile and a few words with you, which means so much.
The hotel is traditional but has been sympathetically modernised.
Our room had a side sea view with amazing views & regular sightings of the donkey who lived nearby.
We had a walkin rainfall shower with handheld option. Great pressure & plenty of hot water. I was aware there were no teamaking facilities, so we took our own.
Despite some negative comments, we enjoyed the food & found portion sizes just fine. Breakfast was a buffet with plenty of options, dinner was served.
Bar area was comfortable, comfy sofas, where we spent time chatting with other guests. Bar prices were reasonable.
We booked 2 trips through the hotel. A few euro's more expensive but we were collected & dropped off at the hotel, so much easier.
All in all we had a great holiday & would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.
Very friendly and helpful staff! Great breakfast…dinner was excellent, and Tony, who we believe was the mater Dee was absolutely WONDERFUL! Incredible view from our room and we loved feeding apples to the donkey next door. City bus stop was 100 yards away and the hotel shuttle was very convenient as well. LOVED this hotel!!
A family run hotel with real family values, and in such a stunning location! We received such a warm welcome throughout our stay. You can really relax here. We stayed half board, breakfast was fantastic, buffet style, and then there was always something to tempt us on the evening menu. Tea, coffee and drinks from the bar were reasonably priced and served with a smile in the comfortable lounge area. Every meal was delicious and plentiful. Our room was cool and comfortable and spotlessly clean, as was the rest of the hotel. Our only slight criticism would be a lack of storage space, with nowhere really out of the way to put the cases, but definitely not an insurmountable problem, nor one which affected our holiday in any way. We had a bath with a shower over which was great, powerful and always plentiful hot water. Unusually there was little noise from adjoining rooms or the corridor, a nice change. The shuttle bus to Sorrento was great, although it was also a pleasant walk down following the directions given by reception. We really felt we had the best of both worlds, staying up on the mountain with the stunning views but with easy access to Sorrento until late in the evening. We can’t wait to go back to this hotel.
Our stay was very pleasant! Clean rooms, excellent service!!! Beautiful views from the property!
The views were spectacular at this hotel and the shuttle bus was easy to get into the city center!
Rooms are very small. Otherwise great
I’ll start by saying, the staff is 10/10 - Tony in the restaurant is truly fantastic. The hotel is very safe, clean, and has all the amenities that you could ask for, and the view is amazing, seriously amazing!’
The 8/10 - our hotel room - the air was not as cold as we would have liked but the staff gave us a fan which was great. The other downside, walls are not thick and you can hear everything, including bedside tables moving, cleaning crew, etc. thankfully the fan helped with that too!
The not so great - you are 100% dependent on the shuttle, which is totally fine for some people!! But we cut our trip short with our trek back to Rome because you would have to take the shuttle down, spend the day in Sorrento, you have to come back up to the hotel, wait another hour just to take in back down to Sorrento to catch the train. You’re pretty far up in the mountains; which again makes for a stunning view. But logistically a challenge. If you get motion sick, or car sick and plan to stay here and take the shuttle, might not be the best option.
The hotel is a little away from Sorrento main town but the free shuttle provided made it easy to go back and forth. Each and every staff member begining from front desk to cleaning crew was so friendly and helpful every day. We stayed 6 days here and took day trips to Positano and Capri. Would definitely come back again! Highly recommend this hotel for the great views, staff and excellent daily breakfast!
We absolutely loved this hotel, yes it could do with a bit of updating but it was clean, comfortable and quiet. All the staff were amazing, they were genuinely welcoming and friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. As one staff member would say they were fanstastico. The scenery is stunning and there is a curtesy bus to take you into town and back again.
I would go back to this hotel in a heartbeat.
What can I say ,lovely hotel with great helpful staff ,stunning views,a very clean hotel, stayed half board and was not disappointed with the food, especially the evening meal selection, although other reviews say the hotel is a bit dated I felt this added to the caricature and felt more homely and proper Italian ,once again the staff were great Fantastic O in the words of Tony the waiter ,fed the local donkey who appeared over wall at the pool , the free shuttle bus was good and frequent, if you hire a car there’s a little village 5 mins away with a supermarket and very cheap little eating places ,loved it room 350 ,ps thank you to the manger for the compressor
The hotel La Vue D’Or is located in the hills above Sorrento providing a quiet respite from the bustling town below. The views are breathtaking and you often hear church bells, rosters and donkeys giving the feeling of being in the country. There is a frequent free shuttle to town but if you want to stay put the restaurant is very good with nightly specials.
The staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble. Tony made our stay with his enthusiasm and welcoming personality, he really is a star. The food was delicious and made with fresh local ingredients, with a different choice each night. The views of the bay and mountains are stunning.
we loved this place so much ! the views and the hotel itself was stunning!
Nice
Quiet hotel with breathtaking views, very helpfua and friendly staff
I stayed for 2 weeks, and absolutely loved my stay! The staff is extremely friendly, delicious food, parking available + shuttle pick up and drop off right in front of the hotel. The view is breathtaking and the balcony I had in my room just made my stay even better. I would absolutely come again and recommend if you are looking for a safe, convenience beautiful hotel. To the staff - thank you for everything! :)
We have just come back after a week at this hotel. The hotel room was very clean but basic, bathroom very big, good shower. We stayed half board, breakfast basic but plentiful, evening meal average, if you wanted anything that wasn't offered you on the set menu, you did have to pay extra. Drinks at bar expensive, lunchtime snacks also expensive, cocktails of poor quality, 10 euros for a millshake ! No tea, coffee facilities in the room, make you pay everytime you want a coffee or cuppa. Pool area quiet, pool very cold, sunbeds extremely hard. Plaster coming off wall as going up the staircase, should be addressed. Our room across from cleaners room, was woken every morning at 7am with them clanging around, extremely annoying, beds very very hard. Good complimentary shuttle bus service into Sorrento. Staff welcoming, apart from female waitress who was harsh, never smiled and rushed you all the time. Other waiters very attentive, Tony the head waiter welcoming but became annoying after a while. All in all average hotel, expensive for the standard of hotel. Unfortunately would not go back again.
