Staff friendly, clean around hotel and in main room.
Bathroom looked very tired. Bath and shower looked dirty as old and marked. Beds very soft. Only 1 very soft pillow. We did get more pillows after going to reception twice!

Overall, our stay at the hotel was good. The room was clean, the food was nice, and the facilities were good. We were generally happy with the stay.
However, there were a couple of issues that I feel the hotel should improve. During breakfast, we noticed two staff members speaking very loudly to each other in their own language (Hindi). We fully respect everyone’s language and culture, but the loud conversation was quite disturbing, especially in a hotel dining area where guests are trying to enjoy a peaceful breakfast. I believe staff should be mindful of the volume and maintain a more professional and considerate environment around guests. This was one of the main weaknesses during our stay.
We also informed the hotel that we had run out of shower gel, but unfortunately, we did not receive any before we checked out. This was disappointing, as it is a basic facility that should be provided promptly when requested.
Apart from these issues, we found the hotel clean, the food enjoyable, and the overall facilities good. With better attention to staff conduct and guest requests, the experience could be significantly improved.
Staff were exceptional - very helpful anytime we yalked yo them, and kept us up to date when our room service order was late and they didn't have a few items we asked for.

Free gym usage (we didn't use this facility but it is nice for it to be included and we would use in the future).
Near bus route.
Shower in room 37 makes a horrendous noise when turned on, the pressure on the first night was poor - it would have been more effective to stand outside in the rain with shampoo.
The food was a little pricer than we would have liked.

Location suited us well for our needs
The premises and service do not compare to other Mercure Hotels we have stayed in at other countries. The common areas require refurbishment especially corridors that seem as though you are walking through a back of house area.

The meeting room could be a lot cleaner a good vacuum and bins emptied.
Remote area, but transport available. You need to carry stuff to reach certain room by stairs. Some of the staff are good. Some are like to teach T and Cs. So Good luck.
The reception was lovely. There was great shower pressure. The lobby area at first glance was nicely done up.
Everything was just a bit old and dirty. The chairs in the room had stains on them, had clearly been used for a very very very long time. Rusty bits in the bathroom, paint coming off the tiles. There was minimal lighting in the room. Tv labeled as smart tv but wouldn’t work in such a way. Half the bed was comfortable, half felt as though I was going to sink into the floor. Car park cost £10, which was absolutely fine, but by dinner hour there were people smoking pot in the car park just outside the front door.
Given the price compared to city centre accommodation options, I expected much higher standards.
We messaged the hotel and they confirmed that there was no charge for dogs but when we arrived they tried to charge us £20 per night extra…the manager waived the charge in the end
The room was not even hoovered from the previous guests, there were dirty curry dishes outside which no one removed until the day after, the window didn’t open and the room stank. The extract fan in the bathroom was broken. I could continue but I’ll stop here
Very welcoming staff and the reception / communal lounge looked very modern and clean. I liked how there was access to a little cardio room 24/7 (just need to sign a register before and after use). Room was clean and a nice standard room for 1 or 2 people. Bathroom was also clean.
Another stay where I had to pay an additional charge for parking although I was staying there. However it was nowhere near as expensive as other places in the Cardiff area I’ve stayed in previously (£10 p/n). There was some damage in the bathroom shower where a tile was broken and sharp, shower head looked like it could do with a replacement. There was a big “comfort” chair however does not look like it has been cleaned in sometime, when I hit it with my hand, there was a small cloud of dust. Lastly the room could do with some more lights in there, as I had to put all the lights on round the bed and the bathroom lights to get a decently lit room. Otherwise, was nice and comfortable.
