Not to be recommended. Used to be a lovely hotel when it was called ‘The Inn on the Avenue’, however it seems to have been taken over by foreigners. What on earth has happened to such a lovely hotel. So sad. I was there on a memory trip but I’d rather not remember this one.
I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, stress-free stay with excellent service.
Avoid this hotel! Just received £200 of parking charges for staying in the hotel in Dec. And yes, I used the tablet in the reception to confirm my car details. Never staying here again!
The first night was ok but the second night was ruined by very mould room 23. This is unacceptable for any person to stay in
We were extremely disappointed with this hotel. Room ok but only a tiny rail with 4 hangers and no drawers or storage for clothes etc. The food was a bunfight buffet which was lukewarm and they kept running out. This was a Christmas holiday through Grand UK and this hotel should never have been chosen as it's really only suitable for overnight stays or business meetings. I won't be going back!
Lovely hotel. Second time we’ve stayed here. Easy check in and check out. Parking is £10 a night, unless you have blue badge then there’s no charge. Room clean. Breakfast was great, had plenty of choice. Staff all seemed happy. Only had one little issue, the window didn’t shut fully. Besides that, great hotel.
Great service from Mohammed Jan. Food was generally good, but avoid the sticky toffee pudding, worst I’ve ever had. Tasted more like chocolate cake, very disappointing.
It’s an ok hotel for an overnight stay - buts it’s not 4 star despite the claim. Seems unreasonable to charge £10 for parking for a hotel way out of town. Rooms clean and decent sized but basic with poor lighting and they really ought to heat the rooms before people check in - it takes quite a while to get them warmer and more welcoming. Pleasant bar downstairs.
Went for an event in cardiff , looked at the hotel on Booking.com , specifically picked it because it said "parking" yet no where did it state you had to pay over £10 for one night even though you were a guest at the the hotel. There appeared to be ample parking as to the right the car park still had spaces and to the left it was a large open area that was only about 20% full even though Cardiff was hosting the Welsh Rugby and was probably the busiest I had seen it.
Staff appeared fairly robotic just going through the motions but I assume it was because it was fairly busy on the day.
On getting in the room we noticed it was fairly cold , the room stat was not operating I possibly believe the temperature is set for the whole hotel.
Lighting in the room was not adequate consisting of two round LED lights and two table lights for the whole large room.
The sink in the bathroom appeared to be slow emptying and the water from the trap kept back filling into the sink , the chain on the plug was also broken.
There was visible mold in the shower area and it just seemed very neglected.
There was a puddle in the lift of unknown origin and appeared to still be there when we came back from town and the single lift was far too small for the amount of guests currently in the hotel.
There was some sort of wet room opposite the toilets downstairs and a bad odour coming from that direction.
Some of the reviews about this hotel seems suspect as there are far better places to stay in Cardiff and more reasonably priced with free parking.
Sanjay, who served us our evening meal was absolutely lovely. Attentive, very easy to communicate with and very professional.
The food was delicious, service perfect 👌

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel.
The duty manager Wachi was a great help, he was very helpful at all times and explained everything clearly. Also all the staff were very helpful too.
It was ok. Just ok. Deffo not 4 star. Basic rooms. Bathroom was weird and felt like a cell. Rooms could do with a refurb. Public areas felt better. Odd reception checkin. Receptionist pops out of nowhere to a desk randomly in front the middle of the entrance room. Didn’t eat there so can’t comment on food.
Really gorgeous hotel spotless clean fabulous bathroom really good clean spacious bedrooms superb spot on service excellent value house keepers should be so proud and management as well very lovely 5 star hotel I've stayed here before few years ago it was fantastic then. 10 out of 10 thank you
Very comfortable rooms and super powerful shower.
The reason we rated it 4 rather than 5 was the evening meal. We checked there was gluten free options available which was pointed out on the menu as the ones with signs. Went to order and found there was no pizza bases and the only thing available was wither Salmon or Chicken Tikka. I went with the salmon which was nice although felt overpriced for what it was.
We then ordered dessert and were told there were no gluten free options other than fruit salad, depsite there being multiple options on the menu. The waiter cane out saying a change in supplier meant they now contained gluten. It was just quite disappointing when a lot was shown as gluten free when in fact there was mot a lot.
Breakfast was good as given gluten free cereal and toast.
Would stay again but not for an evening meal.
Really friendly staff. Very warm and welcoming. Pedro was a joy to deal with. Very polite and courteous. A real addition to the mercure.
We stayed here to celebrate our 30th anniversary of meeting in this actual hotel. The staff helped to make it a very special experience, thanks especially to Pedro on reception! He made sure that our stay was a memorable one.
A lovely spacious room, with chocolates and bubbly waiting for us and we were very well looked after in the restaurant too! All the staff were helpful and welcoming. Would definitely recommend
very nice hotel, easy to get to, modern and very good service and dining area. pedro was also very helpful and amazing!
would recommend
Upon arrival it was a bit of a faff checking in as there wasn't a conventional reception desk but you had to log in via email you received which was annoying. The rooms were generous in size but the door to the rooms were straight off the main corridor so noise and privacy can be an issue and people walking to their rooms can be disturbing at night when your trying to sleep. Breakfast was well catered for albeit self catering which was fine. There was plenty of choice. Overall pretty good with no major complaints.
Nice clean room, friendly staff
