It was very close to where we wanted to be. No real traffic noise. Staff were brilliant.
The decoration in corridors and main areas was a little tired. Cracks in plaster work could have been filled in .
Large hotel. Furniture slightly tired but clean comfortable, welcoming staff and super breakfast.
Location Breakfast
I have stayed at the Bankfield many times and I really cannot understand why this hotel has such a poor overall rating. The staff were very friendly and personable, especially Rudi who went out of her way to help.
Breakfast was good-fresh fruit and cooked breakfast which was hot and tasty.
The room was as expected, not luxurious, but spotless -a comfortable bed and plenty of hot water in the shower. A bonus is that the window can be left open at night, as I love feeling the breeze on me whilst in bed!
The evening meal was a little disappointing. In the past the menu was better. Now it is more like a fast food restaurant, but the vanilla cheesecake is delicious!
Very friendly staff
no room service apart from fresh towels each day
The breakfast was the only part of my stay that I enjoyed
The cleanliness throughout was not good at all in my room there was hair in the plug hole the bath was filthy. There was still toothpaste all over the sink from previous people. The toilet roll was mouldy and room was extremely dusty.
Nice choice of breakfast
Comfortable clean bed
Warm room
Cold plates
Hard uncomfortable pillows, no alternatives
Tiny bathroom
Not enough direction signs, I got lost a couple of times which was quite scary in such a vast building
I was placed in a room far far away from reception, I was a lone female guest and found it very daunting being so far away from reception
To be fair our room wasn't too bad cleanliness wise, bed was comfy and bathroom was relatively clean, but it does need a good overhaul it's very dated and as often as the rooms are cleaned and it is daily you can't clean tired decor. The breakfast area was nice, bright and clean breakfast options was good and of a good standard.
The website picture is not really honest, yes the main building is a lovely old building but the two wings that are what i could make out the actual hotel rooms are very communist era looking, they really are ugly buildings and it is very dated inside.
Dee on reception was very helpful
