Good location , within 20 minutes walk from all areas of Edinburgh . My room very dull, walls dull cream needs a clean needs a bit of paint updating . Felt like I was stuck in some spare room, out of the way. Room overlooked other windows and I could see straight into next door , full view of people laying in their double bed. Kept curtains closed during my visit of 3 days. No small side lights for at night , had to have full bright ceiling light on. Bed very comfy , slept well.
First morning down to breakfast, staff said it was cancelled as chef was sick. No offer of a coffee , orange juice or pastries?? Had to find breakfast and pay out elsewhere.
Next morning breakfast was exceptional , really enjoyed it. Staff friendly. Last morning I ordered a brioche as thought it would be quick to eat as had to get a train a bit later. Waited 30 minutes , still no breakfast. I told staff I had to go as I needed to get to the station. In all, staff friendly , location ideal. Bar area , looks nice , quite expensive . Didn't drink there . Areas of hotel need a spring clean and painting, passageways and my room .
Amazing hotel, rooms restaurant, breafasts, dinners!!! Zero complaints!!!
Excellent service from Rosie. A credit to the establishment and deserving of a pay rise!
Stayed at The Angels Share Hotel in Edinburgh and couldn’t have picked a better spot. The location is perfect for exploring the city and just a short walk from everything we needed.
The food was genuinely delicious, and the bar deserves a special mention, especially for a properly poured Guinness, which isn’t always a given. There is also a great selection of whisky, with knowledgeable bar staff who are happy to recommend something suited to your tastes.
What really made the stay though was the staff, friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help.
Would definitely stay again and highly recommend if you’re visiting Edinburgh.
From the moment we arrived, we received top notch service. Helena checked us in with a cheerful smile and worked to get our room ready since we arrived early. Our bartenders Laura and Jamie rocked... friendly, attentive and all around cool to chat with. Drinks were superb as well!
I’d like to compliment Helena at reception for her warm welcome and professionalism — she made everything smooth from the moment we arrived.
Also, a big thank you to Laura and Jamie at the bar/restaurant for their excellent service, friendliness, and attention to detail. They truly made our experience even more enjoyable.
We had drinks and nibbles and the Marvellous Megan was our server. She was efficient and professional and had a wicked sharp memory with our erratic and diverse orders. Fantastic experience and we will be back as soon as possible. Megan is tops!
Group of 8, we arrived at 8:00
At 9:15 our starters ( just played of cold meat ) hadn’t arrived, we advised that we would give it five more minutes then leave.
Nothing, we paid for our one round ( (they actually charged us ) and we left.
This is our favourite hotel in Edinburgh ideally located and do the best cocktails. Have stayed here in numerous occasions and they do the best breakfasts and great à la carte deals. Staff are very friendly and very attentive.
Charged for mini bar that wasn’t used
My wife and I recently stayed in the hotel for 1 night to celebrate our Anniversary. The room was very large and provided complimentary hot drinks and tea cakes. A full mini bar with prices not too expensive. A good size comfortable (ish) bed, although the room was very warm. Best to make use of the Dyson cooling fans located in the room. There was some early morning noise from the delivery trucks and waste vehicles, although this may have been because our room was overlooking the rear of the close- by Johnnie Walker building. Staff were really welcoming and could not have been any more attentive. We ate dinner in the bar, where I ate the Steak and my wife ate the Seabass. Both meals were delicious and cooked exactly how we requested. The bar has to be one of the nicest in Edinburgh. The decor and nod to the Scots with the plethora of framed Scots celebraties and sports stars. To top it off, they had a live singer (Daniel), who was a delight to listen to.
The breakfast the following morning was really enjoyable and filling, with a great choice. We don't normally stay over in Edinburgh, however we will definitely stay in this Hotel again.
I really wanted to like this place as it had a good vibe. It was busy, had a great atmosphere and a singer.
Sadly first impressions didn’t last.
We were shown to our table and asked what we wanted to drink, we asked for the wine menu; which was brought along with food menus and left for around 10 minutes.
The waitress finally returned and asked to take our food order, my friend mentioned we’d not had a drink order taken yet so she did that first. Two of the fours choices we gave for our food were not available at only 7.30pm.
The food arrived but we didn’t have any cutlery to eat it with! It then took several more minutes to get that, by which time my Seabass was barely warm. I wasn’t overly impressed with the quality of food. My fish came with herb roasted potatoes, sugar snap peas and cherry tomatoes. The peas were not trimmed and there had been no attempt to warm/cook the tomatoes; they were simply halved and put on the plate.
At £50 a head it was not worth it. Shame given first impressions.
Absolutely shocking non service
Poor welcome, rude staff
Sent to sit down like children
At the bar for sometime and the staff totally ignored me, asked other patrons of they wanted a drink but bypassed us.
Left without being served as the welcome and service was nonexistent
Went across the road and paid £12 for 4 drinks and a good welcome at Mather’s
Visited for food on 15 Jan. Service was far too slow, food arrived, looking like it had been sat in a corner of the kitchen for 30 mins and cold! Would have better service and food at McDonalds round the corner!
I made a reservation 1 month ago for our Christmas Eve, which we celebrate on the 24th and on the day of my reservation which was at 6pm they sent me an email at 4:42pm informing me the kitchen closes at 6pm.
I could not believe it so i went at 6pm and they confirmed the kitchen was closed.
This was a terrible experience as I wanted a special meal for my family and they knew they would not provide the service and inly let me know an hour before my reservation, not allowing me to rearrange another place to eat!
They only provided a recommendation on other places to eat…., this was not the Christmas celebration i had organised, really poor form from them.
Extremely slow service, mediocre food for the price, incompetent staff, a disappointing experience.
My friends and I organized a Christmas lunch for Sunday the 21st of December 2025; a rare occasion in which we could all be together. Our food took over 1 hour and 15 minutes to arrive!! Other tables that had arrived after us had been served before us. I had to chase the order twice before the manager went into the kitchen to find our food had been sat there for who knows how long. Nonetheless, they served it to us, most of which was cold. I sent my burger back because, for 20 pounds, it was gravely underwhelming and cold. Someone was given the wrong order and had to wait - again - for another main. The table also took forever to be cleared and trying to order drinks was unnecessarily difficult. I voiced my dissatisfaction to the manager who offered 25% discount and drinks off the bill. The bill arrived with drinks still on it... I had to chase this again until ultimately we got 20% off and the drinks were removed from the bill. Laughably, a service charge still applied.
If staff are not capable of handling multiple festive reservations in a day then they shouldn't take the bookings.
Overall, disappointing and I wouldn't recommend.
We visited today for the Sunday roast after seeing positive online reviews. There were six of us, including a highchair. Although the restaurant wasn’t busy, we were seated in the hotel reception area rather than the main dining space.
It took over 25 minutes and two reminders before anyone came to take our order. When a waitress eventually arrived, her attitude was very unwelcoming and made us feel like an inconvenience rather than valued guests. Getting a second round of drinks was also unnecessarily difficult.
When the food arrived, both children’s meals were incorrect. We had ordered two turkey roasts, but one arrived as beef and the other was completely burnt. After sending them back (met with eye-rolling), the plates returned still poorly prepared. One child’s meal included a burnt Yorkshire pudding and the same dry turkey, while the other had different accompaniments and burnt vegetables. When we raised this again, the response was indifferent. We were told there were no Yorkshire puddings left, so the children had to settle for chips.
The adult meals were enjoyable overall, though the Yorkshire puddings were also burnt.
When another staff member cleared our plates and asked how the meal was, we were honest about our experience. She apologised but then walked away, clearly unsure how to handle feedback. A service charge was added to the bill, which felt disappointing given the level of service, we would normally leave a tip if the experience warranted it.
We have stayed here several times before and eaten here previously, but based on this visit, we are unlikely to return. A very disappointing experience overall.
The worst experience at The Angels Share , stayed, had drinks and food many times in the past . Yesterday was like a different place , terrible food, and bad service, had to ask for side plates and cutlery . Manager was lovely, staff were totally disinterested and very badly trained. Standards have totally dropped, needs addressing.
Would'nt touch it,,, 3rd rate hotel,, extremely small rooms,,, regular loud music well into the night,, Absolutely no respect for guests,, I"ve just spent almost £250 for a double room and was rewarded by a night of loud crappy noise,, alledgedly " music",, I for one would never go back,,, Would'nt recommend this place to anyone,, STAY AWAY
Went in for a couple of drinks last week and some small plates of food. First time in, prices were reasonable. Good selection of draught and all other drinks etc. Decor is really good with the famous Scottish folk, atmosphere is cosy and the young woman “Megan” who served us was on the ball. As the wife said to her she was putting a shift in. Knew how to speak to folk and great personality. Definitely be in by again on our next visit down south. Have to look at your rooms too as the hotel we did stay in was ……not to be repeated lol
