Professional property host/manager
Absolutely shocking non service
Poor welcome, rude staff
Sent to sit down like children
At the bar for sometime and the staff totally ignored me, asked other patrons of they wanted a drink but bypassed us.
Left without being served as the welcome and service was nonexistent
Went across the road and paid £12 for 4 drinks and a good welcome at Mather’s
Visited for food on 15 Jan. Service was far too slow, food arrived, looking like it had been sat in a corner of the kitchen for 30 mins and cold! Would have better service and food at McDonalds round the corner!
I made a reservation 1 month ago for our Christmas Eve, which we celebrate on the 24th and on the day of my reservation which was at 6pm they sent me an email at 4:42pm informing me the kitchen closes at 6pm.
I could not believe it so i went at 6pm and they confirmed the kitchen was closed.
This was a terrible experience as I wanted a special meal for my family and they knew they would not provide the service and inly let me know an hour before my reservation, not allowing me to rearrange another place to eat!
They only provided a recommendation on other places to eat…., this was not the Christmas celebration i had organised, really poor form from them.
Extremely slow service, mediocre food for the price, incompetent staff, a disappointing experience.
My friends and I organized a Christmas lunch for Sunday the 21st of December 2025; a rare occasion in which we could all be together. Our food took over 1 hour and 15 minutes to arrive!! Other tables that had arrived after us had been served before us. I had to chase the order twice before the manager went into the kitchen to find our food had been sat there for who knows how long. Nonetheless, they served it to us, most of which was cold. I sent my burger back because, for 20 pounds, it was gravely underwhelming and cold. Someone was given the wrong order and had to wait - again - for another main. The table also took forever to be cleared and trying to order drinks was unnecessarily difficult. I voiced my dissatisfaction to the manager who offered 25% discount and drinks off the bill. The bill arrived with drinks still on it... I had to chase this again until ultimately we got 20% off and the drinks were removed from the bill. Laughably, a service charge still applied.
If staff are not capable of handling multiple festive reservations in a day then they shouldn't take the bookings.
Overall, disappointing and I wouldn't recommend.
We visited today for the Sunday roast after seeing positive online reviews. There were six of us, including a highchair. Although the restaurant wasn’t busy, we were seated in the hotel reception area rather than the main dining space.
It took over 25 minutes and two reminders before anyone came to take our order. When a waitress eventually arrived, her attitude was very unwelcoming and made us feel like an inconvenience rather than valued guests. Getting a second round of drinks was also unnecessarily difficult.
When the food arrived, both children’s meals were incorrect. We had ordered two turkey roasts, but one arrived as beef and the other was completely burnt. After sending them back (met with eye-rolling), the plates returned still poorly prepared. One child’s meal included a burnt Yorkshire pudding and the same dry turkey, while the other had different accompaniments and burnt vegetables. When we raised this again, the response was indifferent. We were told there were no Yorkshire puddings left, so the children had to settle for chips.
The adult meals were enjoyable overall, though the Yorkshire puddings were also burnt.
When another staff member cleared our plates and asked how the meal was, we were honest about our experience. She apologised but then walked away, clearly unsure how to handle feedback. A service charge was added to the bill, which felt disappointing given the level of service, we would normally leave a tip if the experience warranted it.
We have stayed here several times before and eaten here previously, but based on this visit, we are unlikely to return. A very disappointing experience overall.
The worst experience at The Angels Share , stayed, had drinks and food many times in the past . Yesterday was like a different place , terrible food, and bad service, had to ask for side plates and cutlery . Manager was lovely, staff were totally disinterested and very badly trained. Standards have totally dropped, needs addressing.
Would'nt touch it,,, 3rd rate hotel,, extremely small rooms,,, regular loud music well into the night,, Absolutely no respect for guests,, I"ve just spent almost £250 for a double room and was rewarded by a night of loud crappy noise,, alledgedly " music",, I for one would never go back,,, Would'nt recommend this place to anyone,, STAY AWAY
Went in for a couple of drinks last week and some small plates of food. First time in, prices were reasonable. Good selection of draught and all other drinks etc. Decor is really good with the famous Scottish folk, atmosphere is cosy and the young woman “Megan” who served us was on the ball. As the wife said to her she was putting a shift in. Knew how to speak to folk and great personality. Definitely be in by again on our next visit down south. Have to look at your rooms too as the hotel we did stay in was ……not to be repeated lol
We stayed here just before the start of December. Our room was lovely and had a Dyson fan heater which was fab otherwise it would have been a bit chilly. Staff are really friendly too. The only thing that disappointed us was that there wasn’t a separate bar for hotel guests so in an evening you didn’t have your own space it was just a normal bar it would have been really nice if guests had their own bar space with guaranteed seats.
The food was amazing and Elena (our server) was great! The vibes were so good, good music choices and everyone was so lovely!
Elena was a really sweet friendly server! Made for a very wholesome evening. Christmas dinner was tasty and great atmosphere.
Elena was such an amazing server which really made my experience of my society christmas dinner so much better. The food was lovely and the atmosphere was great :)
Had a lovely Christmas dinner here! Elana was a fab server, food was yummy, and the interior was lovely. Would recommend ⭐️
The nicest most kindest and most accommodating experience we had yet Elena got us in very quickly to a fantastic booth and adjusted our drink order once I saw the fabulous cocktail menu with no complaints and assisted my son with rapid eating. It was a fantastic time. highly recommend great ambience and Elena was beyond perfect.
Lovely ambience and cocktails served by Puja. Fabulous Christmas decor with a beautiful tree. Visiting with a group of ladies
Best service in town by Elena, thanks for everything.. super happy, super positive. Hope to come next time as well. No need to search for alternatives
Nice setting, often able to get a table. Delicious cocktails and great service from Laura. Tailored gin martinis were great.
We stayed one night here as a treat to ourselves, we actually wish we’d just booked a Premier Inn!
We had ‘Billy Connolly’ room and it was just terrible! After reading the reviews of the hotel we thought it would be amazing, and on the surface it is. They do the big things well but the basics bad.
The room was tiny, you could not walk past the tv without banging your head, the mattress was paper thin, although actually comfortable. The tea and coffee facilities were trendy, but not the most practical, a Nespresso type machine would have been a bit easier and less mess. But the bathroom, OUCH! The photos attached do not do it justice! Mould, hole in roof and clogged sink, not to mention the toilet basin jammed beside the bath tub giving no room. The one positive thing is the shower pressure, wow, but that comes at a cost! The shower panel is non existent and unfortunately the great shower causes the bathroom to flood!
Don’t think we’d rush back, but very interested to hear what management have to say, as we’re weren’t even asked ‘how was your stay?’ 😔
Laura was the best!!! Great service to us fellow Canadians !!
We had a great time. Whisky, beer and great company!!!!!!!
We went for lunch on a Sunday, we'd booked a table and were seated quickly. We were given menus but no roast menu although there was only roast beef so it really didn't matter. We asked for three roast beef and a haggis sausage and potatoes. I was informed there were no sausages so I had to opt for a roast beef too. The veg was cooked well but I thought the beef was a little chewy. We all felt that the food could've been a little hotter. We did ask for extra gravy which was no problem. The service was OK and with a bottle of wine and two prossecos the price was OK. To me it was an average roast.
