Pros:

We had a fantastic 4 night stay at this hotel - simply could not fault it. The staff were very polite and could not do enough for us. The hotel is beautifully decorated inside, creating a real luxury and refined atmosphere. Brilliant breakfast including freshly made omelettes which we loved. Amazing sea view of Sorrento town and bay from our room and from the pool area. Highly recommended.

Staff is cold, safety issues, overpriced for the value, not much going except the beautiful views
Pros:

Beautiful views don’t make up for the coldness of the staff, lack of amenities and lack of culture. We traveled in April with our teenagers and would NOT recommend this hotel. If you are a couple looking for beautiful views with not much else to offer then this might be a good choice but I am sure there are other hotels with a better value and service. After coming from Rome and Naples we were hoping to relax at the pool and enjoy the beautiful views! The pool is not heated so unless you are going in the heat of summer it’s like an ice bath. Even though no one was using the pool (because it was freezing) and the hotel seemed light on guests it's tough to find a seat at the pool due otherwise limited seating. We never felt relaxed and felt stuck since there was nothing to do on the property as a family. As a result, we spent hundreds on taxis and were constantly on the go. We were traveling with our kids so we requested rooms next to each other (they don’t have connecting rooms) and they were unable to accommodate even thought the rooms between us were available for a few days and the hotel was not fully sold out. So, my husband and I had to split rooms.

SAFETY CONCERNS! To add even more, the front desk gave some random man the key to our room and he came into our room while my daughter and I were sleeping in the middle of the night!!! Scary and unsettling to say the least. I immediately called the front desk and there was zero follow up or explanation for the safety breach.

You will need to walk to get anywhere (up/down steep hills). Food was average at best and food/drinks are pricey. This property could benefit from staff training to be more accommodating and warm in addition to adding a few amenities like board games, chess and other family friendly activities. Overall, there are better places to stay for the cost.

Grand Hotel Capodimonte - if I return to Sorrento you will be my first choice!
Pros:

We recently spent five nights at the lovely Grand Hotel Capodimonte. As with any hotel stay, there are always small areas that may not completely meet expectations, but my review and rating are based on our overall experience, not isolated details.

The hotel is immaculately clean, and the rooms are comfortable and well equipped. It is built onto and into the face of a mountain which gives it a quirky charm. The views of Sorrento and the Gulf of Naples are stunning and can be enjoyed from multiple levels. Those being the main restaurant, the lounge/bar area, the poolside restaurant, and the multi-level pool terraces. There’s also a spacious outdoor lounge on the reception floor with comfortable sofa seating, perfect for relaxing while taking in those same views.

We were lucky and received an upgrade to a partial sea-view. That said, my review is not influenced by the upgrade. I would have been just as impressed if I had the “garden” view we had booked as we actually spend very little time in our room. As with a cruise, if you book an inside cabin, it’s unfair to complain that you don’t have a view!

Although the hotel is on a busy road, it’s set far enough back that we could not hear any traffic noise. The location is excellent, a five-minute walk downhill takes you to the far end of Sorrento town, lined with bars, shops, and cafés. Walk another 5/6 minutes and you’ll find yourself in the central plaza and the charming old lanes of Sorrento.

We had half-board so could eat in the main restaurant each evening where a three-course menu is offered with various choices. The hotel also allows guests to exchange dinner for a lunchtime meal at the poolside restaurant (also three courses) by requesting a voucher. As the main restaurant menu is only changed every two days I would recommend switching every other day. In reality we found the food in the Poolside restaurant fresher tasting and more enjoyable. It was certainly hotter than that served in the main restaurant which we found had a reheated type texture and taste and could only be described as warm at best.

The drinks can be expensive (it’s a Hotel after all), 12 euros for an Appelo Spritz (which was quite small) and 10 euros for a large beer. However, you can buy a nice bottle of wine for around 23/24 euros. If you were to have this with your meal the waiter explained that you can ask for the cork and take it back to your room, place it in the fridge and bring it down to either restaurant the next day so you do not need to order a whole bottle ever meal time.

As for the staff, we found everyone of them to be pleasant helpful and very polite, nothing was too much trouble, but a special mention must go to the young lady who checked us in, Marianna. She was always ready with a wave and a cheery greeting, she helped us book our excursion and also helped with printing off our return tickets. So thank you Marianna for brightening our day at every opportunity.

Overall, Grand Hotel Capodimonte is a beautifully maintained property with breathtaking views, excellent service, and a distinct character that makes it truly memorable.

Fabulous!
Pros:

Absolutely 5* hotel.
Beautiful, clean rooms overlooking the Bay of Naples- fantastic views!
Breakfast and dinner- excellent with top class service throughout.
Our only regret is that we couldn't stay for very long - a good excuse to revisit Sorrento- and we will do

A beautiful hotel where we would
Pros:

Awe inspiring views, large and beautifully appointed rooms and nice breakfast.

Cons:

One suggestion is for the hotel to keep a list of restaurant recommendations in the area for guests.
The service could be just a little bit warmer.
Toilet cleanliness could have been better.

Slightly below average
Pros:

I have rated the hotel as 3.5 due to quite a few lacking factors, whilst comparing to other 4 star hotels in Sorrento.

The hotel room has a tv but doesn’t connect to any apps or doesn’t allow casting connections. So this was problematic whilst staying with a child. Who from time to time would want to indulge in watching some telly that was suitable during short bursts of being in the room.

The hotel has 5 cascading pools as pretty as they looked were not used by any guests purely due to the freezing temperature. They are not heated in any section. So something to note for families with children.

The hotel didn’t offer any complimentary drinking water and tap water smelt of chlorine. So washing and brushing teeth was a bit challenging and you have to purchase drinking water separately.

They also charged €5 for an ice bucket to be sent to the room. If there was a place for self service this was not mentioned.

Lastly little things lacking like no cork screw for wine opening in the room. They also turn off air conditioning and switch on heating instead which can’t be overridden.

Overall there are other neighbouring hotels who offered a bit more at the same star rating.

The reception staff were lovely the pool staff for a 4 star hotel need to be better
Pros:

The room was nice and clean and a lovely view

Cons:

The poolside bar food was just about fair frozen chips and probably the most uninviting salad ever. The worst Gin & Tonic ever served no ice no lemon just a glass with gin in and a bottle of tonic

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would return.
Pros:

Location was excellent with an incredible view & facilities overlooking the bay and Vesuvius. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Fantastic room - bright, modern, very clean, spacious. Breakfast was very good, plenty of choice. Very easy parking.

Cons:

• No heated pool so water was very cold in April.
• We were woken each morning about 6:30 due to noise from the hallways (mixture of staff working quarters downstairs and other guests) & a drilling/hammering sound. Hard to sleep past this time.
