The Hoban Hotel Killkenny

We recently had a 2 night stay and were very impressed indeed on all counts! We had booked online from Australia a couple of months ago, motivated by the 20% discount, breakfast included and the additional treat of a free drink with lunch or dinner.
We received a very warm greeting from the receptionist when we arrived, and were thrilled by both the size and spotless condition of our room, which was well maintained during our stay.
Our dining room experiences were also top notch, enjoying both the extensive breakfast buffet and delicious dinners. Special mention needs to be made of dining room staff Dez and Johnny, both of whom rendered friendly and excellent service.
We highly recommend this hotel for consistent excellence in all areas.

I stayed at the hotel while in the city on business. The location is fine however, it would not suit guests who want to be within easy reach of Kilkenny city itself.

I had dinner in the hotel restaurant. Service was efficient and staff were pleasant, but the food was average and did not represent good value for money, especially when compared to several very good restaurants located very close to the hotel. It is convenient, but I would consider it a last resort rather than a destination in its own right.

Breakfast was disappointing. The overall offering was extremely basic. The hot food was acceptable but overly salty. The bread selection was fine, although the brown bread was clearly supermarket sourced. Pastries were average, the cereal selection was very limited, and there were no cold meats or cheeses available, which is unusual for a hotel breakfast. The coffee was particularly poor and well below what would be expected.

What really detracted from the breakfast experience was the lack of professionalism during service. Staff repeatedly came in to use the coffee machine while guests were queuing, standing directly behind diners, which was uncomfortable and off putting. It was also clear that some staff members were being accommodated in the hotel and were coming down to breakfast while guests were dining, dressed in an unpresentable manner. This felt inappropriate, especially given the signage throughout the hotel asking guests to adhere to dress standards.

Overall, in a very competitive hospitality environment, the experience did not meet expectations. While the hotel offers convenience for certain business stays, the food offering and service standards would need noticeable improvement to justify choosing it over other nearby options.

We came in for dinner, dessert and coffees. Food was spectacular, great portion sizes and great value for money. Dez served our table he told us all the specials of the day with a great smile and happy vibe about him. Great experience 11/10. Will definitely be back

The staff are super friendly, for my breakfast I was very welcomed by, Mary & Elaine.
For my lunch & dinner I was looked after greatly by Dez and other staffs. Above all the reception are super friendly ( Marie, Jessica.
Also I like to mention when I told reception regarding some problems with soap dispenser & the kettle is not working, they fixed it less than a minute !!!
Al and all I absolutely love that.

We have been served a gorgeous meal by Dez. So very professional, kind and attentive. No request was too much.
Food was absolutely delicious.

We had a brilliant time at a Hen Party in the Hoban Hotel. We were so well looked after by the brilliant staff - with nothing being a problem! Between being served a glass of bubbles on arrival to being served a lovely breakfast, it was all seamless and very enjoyable! A special mention to Johnny who was so kind and gave us an excellent Cocktail making class! He was super friendly and was on hand the next morning to greet us for breakfast! An excellent location with superb staff!

Every aspect of the hotel was exceptional. Check in was a breeze, our room was immaculate throughout, the restaurant was a high point. Breakfast was hot and fresh, dinner menu was varied and prepared well, service was always prompt. When we return to Kilkenny, we will be guests of the Hoban again.

Everything was perfect, from the room to the staff, and particularly Dez, who made sure I had everything I needed for dinner and breakfast.
The room was great, quiet and had everything to have the greatest rest.
The restaurant’s menu is diverse, everyone can have something they like.
The hotel is not in the city center, which means you’ll need a car or to walk if you want to visit but nothing impossible.

I have just returned from a girlie overnight stay at The Hoban Hotel.
The staff were so friendly, couldn't have been more helpful.
The rooms were lovely, spacious and and clean, with a coffee machine in each room, a first for me. And the floor we were on was lovely and quiet.
Breakfast was self service. Plenty to choose from and all the hot food was exactly that, lovely and hot.

One of the highlights for me, as an owner of an EV was charging points available at the hotel. Again I haven't had that experience before. Makes life so much easier charging there overnight, or just topping up.

If I am in Kilkenny again, I would definitely stay here, and I recommend you check it out if you're heading to that area.

We visited The Hobsn today for lunch, they were extremely busy due to a funeral however the staff were extremely accommodating and got us a table in the reception area. Dez looked after us extremely well. Our lunch was very tasty- we'll be back!

Room was spacious and comfortable. Bathroom good with spacious shower and plenty of hot water. Perhaps a disposable shower hat provided would have been advantageous. Staff very friendly and helpful, always there to provide information and assistance.

Hotel is good, with free parking and a spacious room. Bar service was average.
However, it was difficult to get a good night's sleep with the noise level of other guests...into the early hours. Room was fairly clean, but could be improved on.

I had a lovely stay at the Hoban Kilkenny. My stay in at the Hoban included a mix of work & leisure. The Hoban is an ideal hotel to work from with plenty of space in the room and also in the main lobby.

From the moment I arrived I received such friendly, professional service. A particular thanks to Dez who went above & beyond to ensure I had a lovely stay.

The Hoban restaurant offers a varied menu of delicious food at a great price point with a lovely ambience.

I’ve already booked another short stay for work & leisure.

Pleasant experience, clean, decent food, friendly staff. Special mention to receptionist (Marie) who was more than helpful and actually very funny.

Dez looked after us so well, great recommendations for dinner and delicious food and cocktails all around. 5 happy ladies here!
