Beautiful location, stunning hotel and spa, reception and restaurant staff fab
Bathroom in room was filthy and bath was rusting, also housekeeper barged into our room at 9am even though checkout is 12pm, did report to reception who said it would be dealt with
Lovely setting enjoyed the extra space
pool and the general feel of the hotel open areas, new windows noted
The bed was uncomfortable - feel the springs in the mattress, duvet, and pillows were well-worn. Soap scum in the shower
On a positive note, the public areas were clean and the breakfast was delicious with a wide variety of options for everyone. However, the room standard and cleanliness definitely need improvement.
We stayed for one night (22–23 February).
Unfortunately, our overall experience was disappointing. When we entered the room, the bedsheet on the main bed had clearly not been changed. We reported this to reception – they offered us a different room, but we declined and simply asked for someone to come and change the bedding. Under the bed there were still flower petals (probably left from Valentine’s Day), which had not been vacuumed – I will attach photos. There was also a lot of dust in the room, especially on the picture frames, and the room had not been thoroughly cleaned. It also was not prepared for four guests – the tea, coffee and water were set up for only two people, and there were not enough towels for four guests. As we were staying for just one night, we did not want to make a bigger issue of it, but we were not fully satisfied with the standard of the room.
Great range of facilities and excellent staff.
Rooms were a little tired.
Breakfast was outstanding, including the great surprise of having eggs à la carte and chargrilled bacon on Monday. While visiting a nearby town, we heard from locals that they are also quite famous for their Sunday Roast, which we unfortunately missed — but we will definitely be back to try it.
The swimming pool and changing rooms were exceptionally clean and comfortable. The room was the highlight of our stay. We probably haven’t seen such a large and spacious room with solid, old-school (in a good way) furniture since the 90s. The room also included a balcony, which was a great plus.
The room was mostly clean, except for some stains on the curtains, a bit of dust, and a few spiderwebs on the high ceiling. Although we didn’t mind, as we understand that a countryside location can be more difficult to keep absolutely pristine, we feel that if we had to point out something that could have been done better, this would be it.
Unfortunately, during our stay the bathroom heater wasn’t working, which made the bedroom quite cold and showering a bit uncomfortable. This issue wasn’t resolved before we left. However, I’d like to reiterate that it did not affect our overall very positive stay. We understand that issues can happen, especially during unforgiving weather like the -6°C temperatures we experienced when we travelled to the location, and it certainly won’t stop us from returning again to this majestic place.
Liked the atmosphere and staff were lovely
Beds were uncomfortable and all members of the party had a very bad night's sleep.
Was unaware that the pool would be occupied by children. The pool area was very dark and was difficult to see in.
Very nice room and bathroom - although I struggled to understand the bath plug and had to basically sit on it. Not sure if it was faulty or they just want to encourage showers! Very comfortable and friendly bar area where I ate dinner. Drinks and food very reasonably priced.
If I have to find fault, there was litter outside on the walk from reception towards my room. Staff were passing yet no one thought to pick it up. It was gone in the morning but I was unimpressed that no one deemed it unsightly and unacceptable.
Spacious, big TVs, quiet
Not in the main building where you can access the facilities, issues with the electricity and heating. Not clean under the beds. We paid to stay in the castle, but actually stayed in 1 bedroom house, 5 min away from the main building with all the facilities.
