Afternoon Tea
Terrible service
Waited 20 mins to be asked if we wanted a hot drink.
Despite several previous e mails requesting no cheese there was no effort made to make ‘cheese free’ sandwiches( apparently it is impossible for the chef to rustle up a ham or chicken sandwich etc)
Also was confirmed by waitress that fruit scones would be served ( they weren’t).
Whole tray of cakes and savouries spilt over customer by waitress.
No offer of clothes cleaning costs made.
Customer given a dry linen napkin to help mop up.
Then the bill was given with the 10% service charge included!
At £32 per head this was so cheeky.
Requested it to be removed from the bill which it was.
No offer of a future voucher or management apology.
So in my opinion this establishment is not what they advertise themselves to be.
We recently celebrated my father’s 100th birthday at Jesmond Dene House, and everything was perfect from start to finish.
From my very first contact with Kayleigh, the whole process was effortless. She arranged everything for us, and all we had to do was choose our menu and seating plan. There were 20 of us in total, including two children and two babies, and every detail was taken care of seamlessly.
We began with drinks in the billiard room and were delighted to be offered a complimentary glass of Prosecco, which was a lovely surprise and a very thoughtful touch.
We were then shown to the Norman Shaw dining room where we had two round tables. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was impeccable throughout the afternoon. The staff were attentive, friendly, and helped make the occasion truly special.
Jesmond Dene House itself is a wonderful venue. The stately home is welcoming from the moment you arrive, thanks to its beautiful architecture, stunning gardens, and picturesque surroundings. Stepping inside feels like entering another era, full of charm, elegance, and character.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Jesmond Dene House for a special celebration, or simply for lunch or dinner. It provided the perfect setting for a memorable family occasion, and we couldn’t have asked for more.
We stayed at Jesmond Dene House for Damian and Rachel's wedding on 23 May 2026, and it was an absolutely unforgettable experience.
From the moment we arrived, there was a real sense of warmth and excitement in the air. The whole day was filled with love, laughter and happiness, and the hotel provided the perfect setting for such a special occasion. The beautiful gardens created a stunning backdrop for the celebrations and photographs, made even more special by the wonderful weather, adding to the magic of the day.
One of the highlights was enjoying drinks, canapés and Di Meo’s ice cream in the garden with other guests. It was such a relaxed and joyful atmosphere, sitting outside in the sunshine and taking in the surroundings — a really special part of the day that brought everyone together. The personalised cocktails from the garden bar were also a lovely touch, adding something extra special to the experience.
The wedding ceremony and speeches took place in a large hall that still somehow felt intimate, which added so much to the day's emotion. The atmosphere during the speeches was incredibly moving, with the setting making every word feel even more meaningful and personal.
Our room was beautifully presented, and the facilities were excellent. We were genuinely touched by the thoughtful personal messages left for guests, which made the stay feel even more welcoming and personal. These small details really stood out and added to the overall experience.
The wedding breakfast was exceptional. To start, we enjoyed a beautifully presented melon starter, fresh and full of flavour. For the main course, I chose the vegan option, which was outstanding — clearly prepared with great care and attention. Anna loved her Beef Wellington. Dessert was a delightful trio, offering a perfect variety of flavours and a lovely finish to the meal. The quality of the food throughout was outstanding.
One detail that really impressed us was how efficiently the staff transformed the room after the meal to prepare it for the evening dancing. It was done seamlessly and professionally, allowing the celebrations to continue without interruption.
We also enjoyed Doctor T’s Sloe Gin as a wedding favour, which was a lovely and thoughtful touch that rounded off the celebration perfectly.
The staff deserve special recognition. Every member of the team was friendly, professional and attentive, ensuring everything ran smoothly while making guests feel genuinely welcome. Their personal approach and attention to detail made a huge difference to the overall experience.
The following morning, breakfast was equally impressive. The full English breakfast and the vegan English breakfast were both excellent, freshly prepared and the perfect way to round off a wonderful stay.
Jesmond Dene House was the ideal venue for a wedding filled with emotion, joy and unforgettable memories. The beautiful setting, exceptional food, thoughtful touches and outstanding service all combined to create a truly special experience. We left with wonderful memories of Damian and Rachel's big day and would wholeheartedly recommend Jesmond Dene House to anyone looking for a first-class wedding venue or hotel stay.
A huge thank you to everyone at Jesmond Dene House for helping make such a wonderful celebration even more special.
We were attending my friends daughters wedding reception and chose to stay over here. Everything was great, from the wonderful welcome we received from the friendly staff to the meal, service, lovely comfortable room and topped off with an epic breakfast the next morning. Would definitely recommend this super hotel if you are staying in the area.
Set in a beautiful and peaceful location. The staff were amazing from first check in and couldn’t do enough to help during stay. Beautiful room, comfortable bed and amazing en-suite .Great value for money. Thank you all.
Spent 3 days and two night at Jesmond Dene House for a business trip and it was amazing! The grounds, the house and the rooms were wonderul, but the staff? EVEN BETTER! They were all so happy to help, very welcoming and hospitable. Quite literally couldn't have made our stay any better. Special shout-out to Abby at Reception for being an absolute life-saver with a sensitive issue! Handled it like an absolute star! ✨
Many thanks!
We stayed overnight following a wedding at the venue and had a lovely stay. Personal touches in the room to welcome you, everything was clean and bed was comfortable. The house itself is beautiful and well maintained, as are the gardens. Food was also excellent.
The view and the location and the friendliness of the stall
The food was very disappointing and not up to the standard expected
Rooms and hotel ambiance are very pleasant
Seemed a little neglected; toilets not flushing properly, public loos were not clean, long delays for breakfast due to a wedding party and seemed short staffed.
Lovely afternoon celebrating a neighbour's 100th birthday. Little touches like a birthday card on the table and special happy birthday addition to one of the cakes. Was busy, but we had attentive service from Linda. Afternoon tea was delicious and boxes can be provided if you can't eat it all.
The hotel was stunning, the room very comfortable and the staff incredibly helpful. It was a fantastically relaxed place and the restaurants lovely. We had both an evening meal at Fern and afternoon tea while we were there. Both were fantastic!
Nothing. It was fab.
Home from home. Staff fabulous. Upgraded to a garden suite. Amazing.
Nothing.
The setting is beautiful and it was matched by great food and service
